Response to Bijla Singh -

Point One ; Is Everyone Equal?

Singhs’ first point is to contend that Sikhism is non-discriminatory, and that everyone should love each other as human beings, with no-one having a variable status, no-one being “high or lowâ€. His statement is as follows :-

“In Sikhism everyone is equal. All people of different colour, religion, caste, creed, race and sex are equal in the eyes of God. No one is high or low. All are children of God created by God and God loves them all.â€

However, the Guru’s own teachings portray a different version of events. :-

A. Concept of Khalsa

Khalsa is the baptizing of Sikhs, who take an Oath to promote and preserve the five Ks of Sikhism. These Sikhs are to be considered to hold a higher status over that of ordinary persons, and thereby this exposes a hierarchical system that Bijla Singh denied existed. Quotations regarding this brotherhood include :-

“he who recognises the One God and no pilgrimages, alms-giving, non-destruction of life, penances, or austerities; and in whose heart the light of the Perfect One shines, - he is to be recognised as a pure member of the Khalsaâ€

Thereby, if we are to believe this Guru, and by proxy the beliefs of Sikhism itself, then God, through the Gurus, considered those persons inferior whom :-

• Engage in Pilgrimages

• Fasts

• Worships Idols

Are thereby considered inferior in Gods eyes (according to the Gurus) . This is of course a far cry from Bijla Singhs cry of tolerance, harmony and equality regardless of religion.

B. False Promise of Homosexual Inclusivity

Bijla Singh would have us believe that Sikhism is open to all, and God will accept all, including homosexuals. However, this is proven a fallacy by the actions of the World Sikh Group, the Akal Takht, who state regarding homosexuality : "The advice given by the highest Sikh temporal authority to every Sikh is saying that it is unnatural and ungodly, and the Sikh religion cannot support it."

Conclusion regarding Sikh “Equality†within point 1

Bijla Singh would have us believe Sikhism is Inclusive and non-judgmental, though it is clear this is a fabrication. Like any other religion, it promises a reward or spiritual attainment and fulfillment for those that adhere to it, and promises castigation and punishment for those that do not. In this respect, Sikhism is exactly the same as any other way of life, be this Christianity, Hinduism, Islam or any other.

However, what we must establish is which way is right, and which way is wrong? There cannot be “many ways to Godâ€, when each teaching contradicts. For example:-

“Guru Gobind Singh enjoined on the Khalsa Panth not to take kosher meat i.e. Halal meat slaughtered and prepared for eating according to the Islamic practice. In fact it is one of the kraits for every amritdhari Sikh. One who infringes it becomes an apostateâ€

This is of course in complete contrast to the Islamic position, based on the Holy Qu’ran, which states:-

He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without willful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful"

Both are diametrically and intrinsically opposed to one other, so how can both be correct? Therefore, to say that Sikhism has no issues with any other religious beliefs or that there are “many ways to God†is completely incorrect and a misrepresentation of what Sikhs believe.

Point One, Section Two: Love thy Neighbour?

Another accusation by Singh is that in Islam, neighbours have no rights, and Muslims are only obligated to be friendly to one another. This is a complete falsehood. The verse from the Qu’ran that is quoted , “Take neither the Jews or Christians as your Awliya†is referring to Christians and Jews assisting Muslims in fighting or in ruling. This is expressly forbidden by Islam, because they (the People of the Book) do not follow Islam, so how can they rule, judge or defend it honestly?

With regards neighbours, no other ideology puts such stringent requirements on its subjects than Islam. Here are examples:-

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "He who believes in Allah and the Last Day let him not harm his neighbour; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day let him show hospitality to his guest; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day let him speak good or remain silent".

`Abdullah bin `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The best of companions with Allah is the one who is best to his companions, and the best of neighbours to Allah is the one who is the best of them to his neighbour".

Ibn `Umar and `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Jibril kept recommending treating neighbours with kindness until I thought he would assign a share of inheritance".

Point Two: Women’s Rights in Islam

Singh then goes on to conduct a barrage of insults towards Islam, using a standard orientalist argument that Islam suppresses women. He makes a number of accusations against Islam, including:-

A. Women cannot go to Mecca

This is a complete fabrication. Simply watch any Hajj coverage and you will see many women doing Hajj (Holy Pilgrimage) with Men. If this isn’t enough, the Prophet(SAW ) stated in a hadith :

“The Best Jihad for Women is Hajj “

B. Women cannot Visit Mosques

Again a complete Fabrication. Islam has never had any restriction upon women visiting mosques. The Prophet(SAW) stated the following :-

“Do not stop the Maid Servants of Allah(SWT) from going to the mosques of Allah(SWT)â€

“When the wife of one of you asks about going to the mosque, do not stop herâ€

C. Women “Raped†for not Covering is Forbidden in Islam

Singh then goes on to make an accusation that :-

“A few years ago, an eleven years old girl was raped by an old man. However, even though that innocent girl was raped, the man did not receive any punishment, because according to Islamic law, it was the girl who provoked it by not covering herself up. Thus it was claimed that if she had properly covered herself, this incident would not have happened. This is but one real world example of the equality Islam teaches.â€

This can be refuted easily, through a number of factors.

i. Singh makes no mention of the exact case, or reference for it. It could be an entire fabrication of his own mind.

ii. There is NO country, region or government which implements Islamic Law in totality, nor has there been since the time of Ibn Taymiyaah and Ibn Qayim, which is over 800 years ago. Therefore, to claim that Islamic Law was implemented recently in this case is a falsehood.

iii. The actual Islamic verdict and punishment for Rape is completely different. Here is an example of a Hadith (saying) of the Prophet(saw) on the matter :-

“It is reported by Wa'il Ibn Hujr that a woman went out in the time of the Prophet to go to prayer, and a man who met her attacked her and got his desire of her. She shouted and he went off, and when a company of the _Muhajirun_ came by, she said: "That man did such-and-such to me." They seized him and brought him to Allah's messenger, who said to the woman, "Go away, for Allah has forgiven you," but of the man who had had intercourse with her, he said, "Stone him to death."

No mention of the Woman’s dress was made, it also evidences that a Woman’s solitary testimony in cases of rape is admitted, and that the punishment for rape is stoning to death. This completely contradicts Singhs interpretation of Islamic Law.

D. Impurity

Singh then goes on to present Islam as being against women because of its discussion of Menstruation, and Singh takes the assumption that Islam considers women impure because of this basis. Again, in taking verses and mistranslating or misinterpreting them, he again presents a distorted image of Islam.

Singh quotes the verse :-

“They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean…..â€

This verse is actually in relation to whether it is allowed to have intercourse with your wife if she is menstruating, of which it is prohibited and which no sane person can surely disagree with. The actual interpretation of “hurt and a pollution†is the Arabic Word Adha, of which a more commendable interpretation is :-

“They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they have purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah has ordained for youâ€

This of course changes the entire interpretation of the verse, and it is clear that the “blood†is the issue of impurity.

It is Blood itself in Islam is considered impure, and it is not explicit to Women’s Menses. Men AND women are not allowed to pray or fast if they are bleeding according to the majority of Classical Islamic Scholars.

Therefore it is clear that Islam is not discrimatory in this respect.

E. Rights of Women in Islam

The rights of Women in Islam are numerous, and I have included a sample of them here. For further details, I recommend readers, and Bijla Singh, to read the book “Women in the Qu’ran and Sunnahâ€, which can be obtained from :-

Below are some verses from the Qu’ran in this respect :-

“And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women.â€

“Who so does that which is right, and believes, whether male or female, him or her will We quicken to happy life.â€

There are many others, and I encourage readers to research them for further information at the link provided.

Point Three : Polygamy and Marriage

Singh mentions that Islam is unfair to women, because it allows more than one wife. What Singh does not discuss is the rights that a woman has over her husband, and the conditions for taking a second, third or fourth wife.

A. Polygamy

"If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with them, then only one"

From this verse, it is clear that there are conditions attached to taking more than one wife. To deal “justlyâ€, as the verse indicates, is best explained through scholars .

The Prophet(saw) also had a number of sayings on the subject, including :-

“Whoever has two wives and is more inclined towards one of them, he will come on the Day of Judgement dragging one of his sides while it is droopingâ€

Sheikh Ahmed Deedat outlines the following conditions of Polygamy and treatment of wives :-

“To ensure that fairness and justice, the husband must have sufficient economic means to provide adequate food, clothing and other necessities of life to each of them; each of the wives must be provided with a separate house of her own, where only the husband has a right to enter without asking her permission first. The husband must spend equal time in the house of every wife. He must divide his nights among them, and must visit wives in the morning. This will give him a chance to look after the welfare of all every day, and will maintain good relationship with all of them."

As an interesting footnote, Islam was the first religion to introduce a limitation on Number of Wives. Hindus, Christians, Jews and other Idolaters had no restrictions on the number of wives they could have according to their scriptures.

B. Divorce

Like so many other rules, Islam was the first ideology to introduce and legislate the right of divorce for women. Divorce is a lengthy process, and can be carried out either by :-

A. The man who utters intentionally the words ( or meaning of words) talaq, or “I divorce youâ€.

B. The woman, who may seek a divorce from an Islamic court based on the same conditions as we see in the modern world today as well as reasons specific to Islam (e.g., Cruelty, lack of Piety, Constant arguments, etc )

For Singh to insinuate that this is somehow unfair simply illustrates how cultural and backward the Sikh mentality can be. That there is such opposition from Sikhism to Islam’s method of divorce is not surprising, as Sikhism still does not give the right of divorce to its adherents except in extreme circumstances, and even then since it is not legislated within Sikhism this is decided by Western or Hindu Courts.

This is mentioned in many sources, and some quotes from Sikhs are as follows :-

“In the case of broken marriage, divorce is not possible according to the Sikh religious tradition. The couple can, however, obtain a divorce under the Civil law of the land.â€

Of more concern is how Sikhs refuse to even consider divorce, leaving the spouse trapped in a loveless marriage. Take this example from the Sikh Spectrum Magazine :-

When two souls become one, there is no duality between the way a husband and a wife think. Whatever they do, they do it together. A divorce, in such a case, is inconceivable.

Point Four : God is Everywhere?

Singh makes a ridiculous accusation of Muslims, which is that “Muslims face the west, towards the Qibla, because God lives there.â€

Again, this is entirely a creation of his own mind. How can an omnipresent creator “live†in the first place, or inhabit a small area of his own creation? This defeats logic and rationality.

Muslims believe that God is “above the heavens†and “on his throneâ€, the How and Why of the matter being a matter for Him Alone as Creator, and us as creation not being able to comprehend due to us being limited and God being Unlimited. Muslims state that he is on his Throne, above the heavens, based upon the following :-

“Are you sure that He Who is Above the heaven will not cleave the earth beneath you? Or are you sure that He Who is above the heaven will not send against you a stone-charged hurricane."

“And verily, your Rubb is Allah who created the heaven and earth in six days, and then ascended the Throne.â€

For Sikhs to state that God is “all pervading and is in all directions. God is omniscient, omnipotent and loves allâ€, what does that mean? When they say God is pervading, Do they mean God is in impure things, such as excreta? Do they mean that God is in an Adulterer, or a Murderer? When they say God loves everyone, do they mean Non-Sikhs as well?

Sikhs also believe that God takes the form of a man in their scriptures, but how can this be? How can the Creator limit himself to a creation, and then serve the creation? For example :-

“God himself took the form of Sain and served the king in such a way that the king was overjoyed.â€

These are issues that only Bijla Singh can answer, for which my contact details are at the foot of this document.

As Muslims, we believe Gods knowledge and domain encompasses all. This is what Muslims believe, as is evidenced in the following :-

"Do you not see that Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth? There is no secret counsel of three, but He is their fourth, nor of five, but He is their sixth, nor of fewer than that, nor of more, but He is with them wherever they may be. Then on the Day of Resurrection He will inform them of what they did. Surely, Allah knows all things full well.â€

Point Five : Regarding Sikh Beliefs of Worship

Singh claims that Sikhs follow no fasting or pilgrimages. This is completely untrue. Sikhs celebrate “Hola Mohallaâ€, which involves military exercises, mock battles, and a festival of poetry, song and dance, and is held at Anandpur Sahib.

In addition to this, Sikhs are expected to visit the “Golden Templeâ€, in Amritsar. It is described as “a living symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. It is a source of inspiration for all Sikhs and their chief place of pilgrimage.â€

What the real dispute is whether there is any proof for Sikhism’s claims, and whether there is any proof for the Islam’s claims. This will be discussed in the conclusion at the end of this document.

Point Six : Regarding Dowry

Singh quotes the Guru Granth Sahib Ji as “Any dowry which the perverse offer for show, is only false egotism and a worthless display. O my father, please give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowryâ€, and “by accepting this payment for performing the wedding ceremony, you have cursed your own lifeâ€.

In actual fact, In Islam the Dowry is firstly paid by the Grooms family, in order to provide for the Bride should a tragedy befall him, or a divorce be requested. It means that money will be available to tide over the Bride in cases of hardship. There is nothing morally wrong with such a device. Far crueller is to provide nothing to the Bride and for her to fend for herself, as the Guru appears to advise, should tragedy strike!

In Islam, it is forbidden to ask for an excessive dowry beyond someone’s means. In some cases, if the Groom is poor then the only requirement is a verse from the Qu’ran .

Point Seven : Is Sikhism a Deen ( Ideology or Way of Life )

Singh clearly believes Sikhism is a way of life, and Islam is somehow secular in its approach. Nothing could be further from the truth. To Singh, I ask him the following questions :-

A. How much tax should I pay in a Sikh State, as a Non-Sikh?

B. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding testimony in a court?

C. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding the sentence for stealing?

D. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding the age of maturity?

E. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding my relations with my neighbour?

F. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding how I should treat an animal?

G. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding lawful earnings?

H. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding killing a non-Sikh and the punishment for that?

I. What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding riding a horse?

J. What is the ruling in Sikhism if I use a nuclear weapon?

I would imagine that Singh is unable to answer these questions, because Sikhism is unable to answer the majority of these questions. Sikhism covers prayer and religious obligations. It has no understanding of how to interact with the real world. It has no detailed economic system, social system, or ruling system.

Sikhism is not alone in this. There is no belief in the entire world, except Islam, that has the answers to problems that mankind encounter on a day to day basis. In Islam, the Qu’ranic verses on Society outnumber verses on individual worship many times over. In the hadith books, only 3 or 4 chapters relate to ibadaat ( individual worship ), whilst over 100 chapters in Bukhari relate to muamalaat ( societal transactions).

Islam contains a complete ruling, economic, social and ritual system, applicable to all times and places because it is from the Creator, Allah (SWT), your God and my God.

Point Eight : Regarding openness of Mosques

Singh seems obsessed by an erroneous concept that women are forbidden from the mosque in Islam, which is untrue and has already been discussed earlier in this document.

Point Nine : Eating of Meat

Singh describes the eating of Halal meat as barbaric and cruel. He uses the Guru text again to “prove†this :-

“Yet holding the knife, the world they butcherâ€

Islam allows the eating of meat prepared to a standard. The Islamic method of slaughter is the most humane and suitable method of slaughter, due to it being from the Creator, Allah(swt). This is also evidenced in the healthiness of Halal meat, the fact that widespread epidemics like you see in western countries ( CJD, Foot and Mouth ) rarely affects Halal meat. It is the original “organic foodâ€!

It is also humane, as has been proven by numerous scientific experiments, in which the findings were that :-

1. The first three seconds from the time of Islamic slaughter as recorded do not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus indicating that the animal did not feel any pain during or immediately after the incision.

2. For the following 3 seconds ,it was recorded that a condition of deep sleep – unconsciousness occurs. This is due to the large quantity of blood gushing out from the body.

3. After the above mentioned 6 seconds, it was recorded that there is no showing no feeling of pain at all.

Therefore, the actual preparation of Halal meat cannot be in doubt that it is the most healthy, nutritious and merciful method of eating meat.

The next issue that concerns us is whether it is allowed to eat any meat as a human being? Rationally, our digestive system would indicate that it is, owing to these factors :-

A. Our teeth set is that of an Omnivore, as opposed to a Herbivore

B. Our digestive tract can dissolve meat

C. Meat contains all 8 amino acids required for the human body to function

The ultimate reason of course is that it is allowed because the creator has allowed it, and he ( and not the Guru’s ) should ultimately decide for us what is right and wrong. The Creator says in the Holy Qu’ran :-

“Oh ye who believe! Fulfil (all) obligations. Lawful unto you (for food) are all four-footed animals with the exceptions named."

Please see the section about the Qu’ran at the end of this document.

Point 10 : Circumcision NOT Obligatory

Singh states that Muslims believe “that they can only be Muslims through circumcisionâ€. This is another lie on behalf of Singh. In Islam, circumcision is considered obligatory only for those as a newborn, NOT if you have converted.

This is evidenced in the following :-

“If the child attained puberty, and he is weak to an extent that if circumcision was carried out on him, he will perish, then the necessity of circumcision will no longer remainâ€

“I don’t recommend circumcision for those that have reached puberty, as it is very painful and could lead to deathâ€

“If an old person entered Islam, and (medical) experts were of the view that he won’t be able to bear it, then circumcision should not be carried outâ€

And in the Qu’ran :-

“On no soul does Allah place a burden greater than it can bearâ€

Therefore, we can see that Bijla Singhs accusations have no basis, and are meaningless slander. If Singh disputes our version of events, he is welcome to email us at sikhstoislam@gmail.com , and if Singh requests we can arrange a debate publicly.

There is also the phrase, “People in Glass Houses, Shouldn’t throw Stonesâ€. Should Singh really be presenting his case against Islam as if he retains the moral high ground, and Sikhism the true path to God?

I respect you, you have put forward a good argument. I believe ignorance of other peoples religions happends when people choose not to understand it in the first place. And rather have a black and white view.

But I believe that understanding other peoples religions also makes you understand your own religion better.

Every single point raised in this article has been brought up in the article "10 Questions". Umar seems to think that if you post the same stuff over and over, people might start to think there is really more content than there is.

Anyways, please refer to the "10 Questions" thread for a full rebuttal to all your points.

This is the genderal response you get from cut and paste scholars who have formed their arguments from everything theyve taken from internet sources, once all the objections have been answered to completion their is nothing left on the internet to argue from, i suggest you go back to the madraasa and teach your qazi sikhism as we have taught you. I have these similar discussions in lenght on the the islamic board website i was eventually banned because they couldnt counterargue my claims and then they deleted my posts and started levelling the same accusations, you then wonder why muslims argue that they are being attacked well what else can u do wiv such people when talking obviously fails.

Well Sikh Answer can cut and paste the replies already made over here also.

But das is usre that Umar Bhai has not read Dasam Granth Sahib and Sarbloh Granth Sahib also.

Anyway If Umar Bhai is homosexual and want to join Gurmat.Das has plans for him.Sikhism is as diverse as other forms of Islam.

Like SikhAnwer may not eat meat but to convert Muslim to Gurmat, sect or order of Das can also let him have a few drops of swine blood in Amrit Sanskar,Das also ate beef(as das is convert from hindus but then it was with Das and missioanries).

So das wants to say one more thing over here,That unlike our Brother Umar, who may not deem other Muslims as Muslims and be it Shia Sunni or be it Barelvi or Devnadis within Sunni, das see good lot of peacefull activty with thier Islam meaning peace.

Over here preception of das is diiferent over faith then Bhai Sikh Answer but we deem him still as Sikh.and inspite some higly Islamic things das noted of Bhai Ummar,Das still will not disown hom of Muslimhood the way he may say so for other Muslims.

Allah Hafiz.

Let SikhAnswer keeps on answering Bhai Umar.Das support of AKJ is also due to such reason that when some disturbed mind try to spread wrong things,They do go to the same level of that distrubed mind and feel pain to answer the painfull issues raised bu distrubed mind.

Over here das could feel the pain in mind of Bhai Umar, and das can again take form of old Hindutva but when Allah Allows.

so das tells Uamr Bhai 4 after he writes 123 but he again repeats 123 without understanding the 4.Once mother of das had mental imbalence and by Mercy of Allah, she was cured.Same thing she did when she was insane.

Regarding Halal issue.Das can ask one thing to Bhai Umar,Say during Jihad,if he is cought by jews and Sikhs alike what would he prefer onto himself. An inhuman Jhatka or human kosher simlar to Halal.Or das will call him Muslim buddies for Halal.

Totally agree. Looks like this muslim dude has his head in the sand. He has not either read or I guess have totally ignored what was written as a rebuttal to his 10 questions.

Good thing that his original 10 questions were posted in "anti-sikh" proganda section. They sure are a proganda!. Getting to be real bore at the moment!

If he hasnt understood Bilja's or "Sikh anwers" replies, than this bechara muslim dude is a gone case!!. What a bore..Yawn yawn..waste of time and space.

Muslim dude, please listen to a few beautiful Gurbani shabads and have some peace in your mind. Gurbani shabad kirtan will definately cool your mind. Oh and dont forget to contemplate on the divine words of the gurbani Kirtan.

Dont waste your time writing your nonsense on a Sikhi site. Think of why we are all here on earth. We all have the same jyot (divine light) of one God - Waheguru - Satnam.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Interesting how people here now want to stifle debate, is it because they have no more answers left?

With regards "You only want to convert people", what about Bijla Singh, who blatantly attacks islam all over the internet ,e.g :-

"On the other hand, Islam does not teach equality. Islam teaches hatred, inequality and killing of those who do not believe in Islam and the Prophet Mohammad. Islam teaches that only Muslims, who believe in Mohammad being the last prophet, are superior beings to others. "

"Non-muslims cannot even go to a mosque "

"the God of the Muslims lives in the west"

And other blatant lies. Do you think muslims are just going to sit back, and let this guy post lies about the religion all over the internet?

Wo...Hold your horses. Beg to differ with your comments. If you recall, it was yourself who went around various Sikhi forums posting your "blatant lies" and nonsense instigating trouble and hate.

All the Sikh forum members have done is to answer your uncalled for anti-sikh postings. You seem to be ignoring them and repeating your questions.

Personaly, I really think you should calm down and practice your own religion as best as you can. Going around on the World Wide Web posting your unnecessary questions and inciting hate cant do your religion any good. You sound very young. Grow up and look at what you are doing please.

We should all learn to live on this earth peacefully dont you think?

There are plenty of people in this world who already are having very negative views on you religion.

Please Waheguroo, give this 'S2I' member some Gurmat Naam.

As per Panch Tantra story.

Once an Elephant sat on ground.a pit was formed.Elephant went.

Later water got collected in there.A frog mad it its home.

Once same Elephant returned and talked about sea.And So much endless water there appearing.Frog said that Elephant is fool.

As frog has not seen sea so sea can not be there.

So be Happy and Let Bijla Singh Bhai come and answer.

But anyway das does not agree to mnay thing writtan aganst Islam also. They should be target towards not the true Islam but for psedo Islam, which is product of purisst appreach like protestants in Christianity.
