    * Very good points Veer Jee.

A1) It is obvious, it means nothing to someone like this fellow.
A2)  They keep it as a matter of tradition only, because they are born in a sikh family.
You know what, the snake also changes several times its skin, yet the poison is very much within untouched.
It is a very good sign, if one has in account sikh values by tself, for it shows courage, faith and respect. But all that is futile, when the mind attacks the jeeva. we are all under the influence of mind, some less, some more, but nobody is free from the negative enforcement of the mind, through the vikars....
None can ever overcome the evil tendencies of the mind, howsoever very subtle.
Guru Jee tiredlessly emphasizes Bhakti to vanquish the mind, once and forever :
Prabh ka simran, man kee mael jae.
    Sarab rog ka aukhad Nam.
Avar kaaj tere kitay na kaam, mil Sadh sangat, bhaj kewal Nam.
We are so engrossed and busy paying attention, in cleaning and washing the outer body, which we think is our true self, that we tend to forget our true spiritual nature as soul/ jeev atma.
It is something like as for example, if our computer is infected with viruses/trojans, what will happen if we only use outer products, to clean and polish the hardware outside?
The internal malware / infection is still very much there....
We need to use an antivirus cleaner /software, at the same internal level where the viruses are located, in order to desinfect that malware/viruses ....
And that internal software which cleanses us from all our past karmas, sins, vikars, abosolutely everything.....is none other than His Bhakti as per Gurbani.

    Pen jee,
There are quite a few noble souls here who through their posts I can say that they have achieved some progress in about 3 , 4  years, but, as a general rule I can say that purity and love only for Waheguru, is what counts, than span of time or anything else, to have even a glimpse of His darshan...that also by His kirpa, but nevertheless in any case we should hold on tight on the pallav of His sacred Name, for in this way we can for sure draw His blessings, even if we are heavy sinners and dry in love and faith in Him.
His Nao is the only true refuge for one and all.

P.S: we can get inspired with someone's  experiences,  but we should not try to copy anybody, for our race and goal is not with others but with ourselves.

I found this article on a web, which I am reproducing it as it is, though it appears to be the words of a highly evolved soul, we can learn a lot from it, by getting inspired and understanding the importance of Rom Rom Simran, which is the base line of this article.

    Hope you enjoy it......

    Namaste dear friends...

I am sharing this gentle and humble practice, yet the most powerful for those who want the love of God and his remembrance all the time.

Also I am sharing it because to my surprise I've found it also to be very self pacing energetically and relieves the person from energetic problems in the head...

It's the zikr of the divine name or constant mantra repetition of a certain deity...

By the constant repetition of the divine name we are always in the presence of our beloved and reminded of him... I can't think of anything else to bring us nearer to our angelic nature...

For angels, as Rumi says... Their oxygen is to repeat the divine name...

Love for God becomes so great when we undertake this practice... We fly on the wings of bhakti... We burn in Ishq... We burn in love for our beloved...

It is rumi who said I burnt and I burnt and I burnt... Well there is nothing sweeter than burning for the sake of our beloved

Now I consider the Indian legacy as my mother and suffism (christian, muslim and jewish) my father... Arab christians, jews and muslims... All use the name of Allah as a translation from english to the word God. And the great name of Allah the beloved is what I use for this practice myself... People may also use the name of Jesus or Yahwa or any form of christian prayer... As per my indian friends.. They may use any mantras they like and which relates to their deity... Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Mother Kali, Krishna ect... The divine name we choose is the one which we really consider as our beloved... It's our highest ideal. Our chosen Ishta.

Concerning the technique, it's very easy and simple and it is the following:

We repeat the divine name inside ourselves at the area from the right side of the physical heart extending to the middle of the chest. We repeat it in the space from within and "not on the surface".

We do so while being involved in whatever activity we're doing. Eating, walking, working ect... But we do so with respect and humbleness... And we do our worship as if we see our beloved and in case we can't we should know that He/She sees us.

As every practice... This one might have it's clunky stage but if we push ourselves into it for the first two days it will become an automatic process and the repetition of the divine name then will happen by itself in our heart... Even when we are talking to others... If we find it hard to repeat the divine name from within... We can repeat it with our tongues at first and gently go down to the heart area afterwards...

If one would like to push this practice even farther and be with the divine name of his beloved... He can do this practice while negating every other thought but the divine name inside his heart and turning away from all thought and just being with the divine name. But we do so gently without fighting.. We just favor the divine name above everything else.

To whomever feels attracted to undertaking this practice I strongly suggest you do so... It's very beautiful and I can't think of anything better than being with our beloved all the times...

Much love to All, may divine grace blesses those who undertake this practice and guides their step.

    Peace,
    Ananda

    Sorry Pen Jee,
the simran you do while moving around or waiting for anything is undoubtedly a must for our betterment spiritual wise, but the simran I was referring to do, is that of sitting in meditation to do simran, for the essence of Truth which we are looking for is within us, and going inwards towards that Truth can only be possible by stilling the body and withdrawing our attention from the outside world, precisely through the simran of Waheguru. Then this very Simran will take us to higher and purer levels of consciousness until we reach the highest abode of Truth, namely Sach Khand.
This is the true importance of Waheguru Simran, to which almost nobody pays attention, but is a priceless gift upon us by Guru Sahiban.

    Sister,
simran is a tough job for almost everyone, because the mind wants to do its manmat, and is not ready to obey the hukum of  Guru Jee, for in its very depth it somehow senses, that with this devotion/practice of simran, one day it will get pure and loose its grip on the soul, which by His grace will then return and merge in Him.
So, it is better to give it the dose of simran  whenver it is most suitable for you without having to fight with the mind, for the impact on the mind is the same.
Outside,  we have seconds, minutes, hours, morning, evening, night, ...time keeps going on, changing, but within us, there is continously only His Noor, His Jot,         ( Jhim Jhim varse Amrit Dhara), so sister any time dedicated to this devotion is good, it is added in your account of spiritual kamaee.
So do not bother much  when to do it, the thing is to "do it", otherwise the mind has 101 excuses for not doing it.
    Stay blessed.

Being new to this forum and meditation, I am amazed at the knowledge and experience some of the forum members have.  I could hardly sit for 10-15 minutes with lots of distractions in mind, bringing my attention back to meditation/breathing/Simran and then again wandering off in my thoughts.
I know we have different experiences based on family backgrounds, past karamas, hard work we put on in meditation in this life but may I ask saadh sangat, for how long (months, years ) they have been practicing meditation/Waheguru Simran for?

A couple came home at midnight after having a good time at a restaurant, only to find the smell of gas around the house.
The man went to the kitchen and detected a stronger smell. The subconscious mind pushed him to turn on the light. and the kitchen exploded, the husband died instantly and the wife was moved to intensive care where she still remains.
The furniture was seen 200 metres from the house, which meant that the gas pipe explosion was stronger than a bomb.
The lesson from this appalling incident is as follows:
When you smell the gas do not turn on the light, but open all the doors and windows calmly, so that no spark occurs, then close the gas tube and do not turn on the light until the smell of gas completely disappears.
Also do not open the refrigerator if you smell the gas, because it also causes an explosion, and even the suction fan do not switch it on because it has an electrical charge, just open the windows.
You should not read this letter alone, publish it as much as you can,  so it may  be helpful to  as many people  as possible.

Lust just as any other vices, are mind´s dirty tendencies, which go on adding dirt on us.
For that purpose, Gurbani is very clear and direct giving us the right method or antidote to get us cured from these vikaars.
PRABH KA SIMRAN MUN KEE MAEL JAAE
The Simran of the Lord, Waheguru, is the cleanser of all impurities upon the mind.
These words, is no guessing, speculation, manmat or hearing and saying from others, it is direct wisdom from Guru Jee, and as such is utter truth and most effective when followed implicitly.

Bhen ji daas has had similar experience as you have mentioned.

Nowdays i feel the same as there are some days that i don't feel like doing any nitnem paath simran jaap just feel lazy as i suffer from migraines headaches i give myself a day off for rest which in turn increases to sometimes a few days. Which in result i don't feel like doing anything bhagati related.

When i do manage to do my usual paaths simran i feel like i am stuck between 2 worlds of not doing anything then feeling under pressure lol.

Its normal though bhen ji as its a long hard task to do battle with the mind as it is kalyug lol.

You could try a technique of saying "Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib" 5 times before opening eyes and doing anything when waking up as daas tried this when i was a teenager years back and it helped as back then my simran felt stronger compared to nowdays.

Evening is a good time as you can do Rehras Sahib before 11pm and i remember i used to do my panj banis nitnem after having roti when i got home.
