Manmohan Singh got a reaction from mahanpaapi in Identity / Haume
We all are teaching one thing or other to everyone. Ultimate Teacher is ALMIGHTY who is playing in all of us for all of us.
Guru ji never advocated to follow any person or identity. He only teach us to find the Almighty Guru in our hearts...
For that, first we have to empty our minds of what we have learned, because that is our viewpoint, and we are seeing everything from this viewpoint. That is why we generally skip what Guru wants to tell us.
According to Guru ji, every particle of this nature is aspiring to reach the point where they can meet Almighty. Hence every identity/being is respectable. But our path is not in identities but the path, by following which they also came out of the identity/HAUME cage.
The word HAUME pertains to the identity in which we are caged and it's beliefs. So we should first meditate on ourselves and our reactions for the surroundings. From this reading only we will be able to know the difference in the Guru's viewpoint and ours. After that everything will be clearly seen.
Although old habits die hard and we always willingly or unwillingly repeat the mistake of interpreting  the surroundings from the older viewpoint and again face the same agonies and fears. These fears and agonies serves us as a teacher to make a habit of keeping a fresh new viewpoint.
Almighty is beyond limits so we can not reach the point of ecstasy by following the identities or some person.
In Mahabharat also Arjuna was limiting himself in identities and was feeling handicap to do his KARMA, because by virtue of his own identity he was seeing his identity's relatives.
And that teachings are in Bhagwad Gita. The honourable Sri Krishna taught Arjuna to see beyond his own identity.
At last when a person is tired of changing the lanes or paths and when he gets the actual reality of all the paths then his mind gets still and tries to identify what is right for himself. Then only, when he stops seeing outside, and the inner path to peace is visible. And that point of ecstasy is an instant far and he finds  himself standing in front of Almighty.
Anything which is rigid, is very near to be broken. If identity is getting rigid , it is very near to be broken by the hammer of his own KARMA...
Slowly and slowly one starts seeing himself in everybody and feels pain of everyone his own pain that further helps him to break the cage of his identity.
When the cage is broken then he sees Almighty playing everywhere in everyone.
To understand something we have to first pass through it. Like to completely understand the enemy we have to first face him either in the way of victory or defeat.
That's why to understand the self we have to wear an identity and later on have to see it wearing off or tearing off.

Am just reading a book and came to an interesting point. thought I'd share.
There was a paragraph which explained that the mind was in the habit of always having a thought in it. All we had to do is to think of only one thought, and then allow ourselves to forget that one thought. I do not know the name of the book or the name of the author.
That evening I sat quietly and tried to imagine what “one thought” I would think of. Lacking guidance or any other suggestion, I thought of an internal image of a number “1,” like a big candle that goes on a birthday cake. I imagined this in my field of inner vision, only that number “1.” After a while there was a tingling in my fingers and toes. For a while I was able to ignore this and be only aware of the “1.” But, then, somewhere along the way I became aware of this tingling and the fact that I was aware of it; immediately the whole practice stopped. The tingling was gone, along with the awareness of the “1.”
The next night I went home from work and ran the same experiment again. The tingling returned, and this time started moving up my arms and legs. For a while I naturally ignored this, and remained only aware of the “1.” As happened the night before, once I became fully aware of this, the whole thing went away, both the tingling and the “1,” and I was just sitting there, aware of my external surroundings again.
A third night came and the same thing happened again. This time the tingling rose up my arms to my shoulders, and up my legs to around my lower abdomen. I noticed that the distance from the feet to the abdomen was a little further than up the hands to the shoulders, but that the movement took the same amount of time, not knowing if that was significant. As I once again lost awareness of all of this, I wondered where this was going. It seemed to be moving upward and I wondered what would happen if it entered into my head.
On the fourth or fifth night of these experiments the tingling moved all the way up my arms and legs, to the neck, and into the head. There was a flash of sorts and the whole thing disappeared, both the tingling and the “1.” I was not conscious in the waking state sense for four hours or more. I did not know where I went, if “went” was even the right word. I did not understand what had happened, and it was nearly twenty years later before I started to learn about these states of consciousness. I was left with a sense of fear and backed off for a considerable length of time. I meditated from time to time, but did not have this kind of experience again. Years later, my impression was that this was a gift of the tradition in the sense that, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” My impression of this is that when we are hungry, very hungry, and sincere, help will come in one form or another, even if it is in the form of guiding one to the library.

Most people will go through this shabad below just conceptually or intellectually. However, there is hidden vidhi in this shabad. This vidhi mentioned in shabad below by sri guru gobind singh ji himself is probably most direct, powerful and highest vidhi-nirgun abhed dhian/smadhi, this is where all vidhi ends. pooran joth jagai ghatt mai thab khalas thahi nakhalas janai. jagith joth japai nis basur eaek bina man naik n anai. pooran praem pratheeth sajai brath gor marrhee matt bhool n manai. theerathh dhan dhaya thap sanjam eaek bina nehi eaek pashhanai. Such a man, in whose heart shines the full Divinely Radiant Light is a true a pure Khalsa. He the Khalsa meditates on the Ever-radiant Light, day and night, and rejects all else but the one Lord from the mind. He decorates himself with perfect love and faith, and believed not in fasts, tombs, crematoriums and hermit cells, even by mistake. He knows none except the one Lord in the performance of acts of pilgrimage, charities, compassion, austerities and self-control. This ever-radiant light/knowledge (Jagad jot) is already in all of us as jot roop our real self as enlightened self realized undivided spacious radiant unconditioned pure jagad (awakened/pure awareness). Seeker needs to stop identifying with conditioned mind thats done by initially by witnessing the thoughts only, in fact no need to stop mind thoughts as mind will automatically fall off, just simply abide in this pure jagad (awakened/pure awareness)- see through world as one in all, all in one- perceive everything manifest rising and subsiding as wave from your real self in real self- awakened-aware-jagad jot- pure ocean of awareness, thats all is required until grace dawns..everything will happen spontaneously and naturally... If you have deep impulse or drawn towards this vidhi you are quite lucky thats grace itself, if not its ok take the vidhi which you are more drawn towards under guidance of panj pyares. Everything is grace-introvert itself grace from satguru, perseverance is also grace from satguru, realisation is also grace from satguru

Following on from my earlier post of the pangtis of Bhagat Kabir Ji bani in SGGS.

I found the following with reference to the western gate.

    THE GATEWAY OF LIBERATION
The saints tell that God is within our body and also tell us the way to find Him. The seat of mind and soul is behind the eyes, between the eyebrows, from where the consciousness spreads throughout the body. This point has been called by early Indian sages 'the third eye' and 'the divine eye'. Kabir also describes the eye center as 'the door to the west', 'east' being the world visible to physical eyes. By 'west' Kabir refers to the
regions opposite to the physical world, which are behind the eyes :
    "Above the western gate stands a heavy rock ;
in that rock is a window and above the window is the tenth door.
O Kabir, endless and boundless is what one sees there." (55)

    Besides describing the eyes center as 'the tenth door', Kabir also calls it, 'the mole', 'the mole within the mole' and 'the star between the two moles';
Between the two eyes is the Master,The messenger of the Lord, Between the black and the white moles,Is the shining star,And within the star dwells
    The unknown and unseen Lord.

The inner eye is equipped with the capacity to see the supreme being and the
    everlasting abode of Truth. Kabir says, "That which is visible is perishable ;
contemplate on Him who is invisible. When you turn the key to the tenth door, then
you will have the darshn of the Merciful One". (57)

To open the inner gate is not easy. Mind and soul are fully engrossed in the outer
world. The soul, tied to the mind, is a captive in the cage of the physical body. It is
unaware of its origin, its home and the abiding bliss that awaits it within. The most
important step in spiritual practice, then is to control the mind and consciousness, which are running through the nine portals into the outer world. Kabir says : "On the ninth day control the nine doors, put a dam across the flowing currents of the mind, become oblivious to all objects of attachments and avarice; thus live beyond ages and eons and taste the fruit of immortality.

Apologies NEO if I have taken this topic off it's intended purpose. Feel free to move it to another thread if deemed appropriate.

    N3O,

Any views you have on it would be most appreciated.

I wish mahapursh were open about bhagti in general. Personally I think they know most people have an allergic reaction if chakras or any kind of breathing technique is mentioned. That’s why we don’t hear about it on stages of gurdwaras in general. Very few mahapursh can be bothered with people of today because people just want to debate or have justification for everything and not do the practical.
Bro, I'm not getting into the whole Sargun/Nirgun thing because I feel it’s going to lead me down a path where we have to research what is nirgun and what is sargun exactly. I get the gist of it and that is enough for me at this stage. Which one is higher or lower is of no relevance to me at this stage of my spiritual life because I’m a beginner. Too much knowledge can also become a hindrance and not enough can be a downfall. Where is that right balance I don’t know. To me nirgun or sargun roop are one and the same. I have firm faith waheguru knows my simran is for him.

What should we visualize if anything? From what I’m hearing and reading using visualisation of guru’s pictures accurate or not or ik ongkar or the actual spelling of waheguru are all tools you help you still your mind and build one pointed concentration and stop it wondering. There was one pangti I read where it said keep the guru’s charan embedded in the heart/mind. Here is a similar one:

What does that mean? Visualise a pair of feet and pretend they are Waheguru’s. One nanaksar mahapursh said focus on the padam you see drawn on the sole of Guru Nanak’s Dev Ji's feet in their famous painting of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. If that helps you achieve mind focus and makes your feel as if your simran stronger and more directional then why not.

I was listening to another mahapursh the other day where he simply stated make your mind one pointed like a compass needle. Like the needle always returns to the north position keep bringing your mind back if it begins to wonder and keep your nishana on waheguru. I liked that analogy. Easier said than done though! Personally speaking I’m shocked at the stuff that comes to the surface when I try and do simran. However at least I’m becoming aware when this begins to happen and you can try and stop it, either by coming back to bhakri bani or temporarily opening you eyes so as to try and drown out your incoming thoughts.

It’s a very personal decision what feels right for the individual to help them achieve this. But eventually there will come a time when we have to rise above this all. Guru ji says the light of divine is within us all and the journey we have to make is internal. I’m sure he knows that at the end of the day our bhagti is directed at him. He is Guru Nanak and he is everyone else. There is nothing but Him….TuHi TuHi Tui Hi.

The jaap of “waheguru” mantar in the literal sense will stop when you know your thoughts/mind are dead. That is what I believe guru ji means when he says be dead while yet alive which I am reading again and again in SGGS.
But that line is very close to point when we enter a sleep state. At that point we are to listen only with our inner ears for a anhad shabad or it might simply manifest itself. Its never been described or is indescribable except saying its like sounds like a particular instrument and we will love it when we hear it.

I’ll be honest and open here, sometimes when I sit down and its quiet I can hear this buzzing/ringing in my ears which is very faint. Is this the anhad shabad or simply the noise of my own inner being or air flowing through my body/brain. Am I supposed to focus on this or not? I know for a fact my thoughts are still coming so I don’t believe this is what I’m searching for. Yet when I do put all my attention on listening to it when I’m thoughtless even if it is for a few seconds I do feel my meditative state is going deeper within.

Think I’ve gone off track so back to your question. From what I’m learning and which agrees with my own interpretation of what SGGS might be trying to convey is that we need to focus on the gurmantar/shabad. The Sound! Sitting down at the trikuti to my understanding doesn’t mean straining your eyes or applying pressure to try and pierce through or bursting open some doors so some light magically appears. It means take all your surti to that place where the 3 nadi’s meet. With your surti there keep on reciting “Waheguru”, as if you are siting outside a door and waheguru is on the otherside, and listerning to the gurmantar with full concentration. We must keep on "kooking" at Waheguru’s door which is at that point. I hope that door will eventually open for us too and he welcomes us in. I don’t believe it’s a door in the literal sense either but a doorway through which we must walk through to take us deeper within.

I still think there are many more things which I’m yet to discover and if and when I find out anything more I’m happy to share. Even though everyone likes to keep it gupt or provide what ever justification to themselves which makes them feel more special than someone else. I can’t honestly believe if we talk about it our bhagti it will lesson or be lost. I personally don't have any kammyee so what could I possibly loose. Yes I do understand that talking about it can lead to inflation of ones ego, or thinking I’m better or higher or know it all. I hope my post doesn’t come across that way because that it is not what they are intended for. To be honest I don’t even know why I’m writing all this. Is it to solidify where my understanding is taking me or is it because there might be someone else out there with the same views as me who is lost who might be searching for those little gems that might make a difference to them, who when reading this appreciates it and says I wish someone had told me that. Bit of both I guess.

The way I understand it is that we need to make it our end goal is to get to Waheguru before our breaths run out, not after we die. Otherwise we are going to be back here again or wherever he chooses to send us because we didn’t make it. That is made quite clear in Sri Guru Granth sahib.

I think a lot of Sikhs like to shake off responsibility and effort by believing that Guru ji will come to sort all the mess around us out, instead of actively trying to do anything serious themselves.

It's like a comfortable crutch and a perfect excuse to fail to act ourselves.

Even a simpleton should be able to see that Guru ji did everything (to the point of sacrificing their own family) to educate, uplift and empower Sikhs to look after themselves - not only physically/militarily but spiritually and socially.

If I close my eye's for an extended period of time a void begins to open up and I can see a kind of dark blue/purpleish background as opposed to pitch black. Not sure if that's just from light entering through the eye lids or its the colour of the agya charkra beginning to show itself.

Anyone else willing to share their experiences or this is going to be a one person thread?

That night I never slept a wink. I had a constant sound in my ear. My state of mind has become quite biragee and whilst listening to kirtan/simran yesterday the tears were just flowing. When I now say Waheguru it definitely feels as if the voice is coming from the chest. The anand from the simran feels a lot more sweet. Don't feel like working or doing anything. Just feel like reading gurbani and listening to Waheguru Mantar.

I am not sure if I should write this but think I might have just experienced something.

I was lying down on the sofa just thinking about waheguru when I had this urge to do simran. I started the jaap and my voice sounded so clear. I became totally engrossed in the sound and then all of a sudden my voice and breath suddenly merged into perfect union all by themself without me trying to force it. Then it felt like a ball of energy started shooting up and down inside of me between my chest and navel. It was really powerful. All of a sudden I became aware of what was happening to me so I stopped out of fear. I'm still a little shaken up by the experience.

    Sat Sri Akal Das Bhaji,

Your contribution is most welcome and much appreciated. I will have a read of the links. Many thanks. I'm not really sure how to describe or convey how I'm feeling. Don't anyone get me wrong, I'm not saying leave one's family or anything like that. I can seriously feel my mind becoming more still at times to extent I just want to close my eyes and just sit in this silent state of peace and not be disturbed with worldly activities. Finding this 'me' time is the difficult part when one has so many other commitments to others. The biraag has also increased and jaap/calling to Waheguru within seems to be pushing deeper than before.

Glad to hear Sumeet you're feeling the positive effects of simran and reading Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Be very careful and mindful you don't fall into the trap of looking down upon others and practices. It is very easy to end up with an inflated ego which can eventually become your own downfall and road block. Reading Gurbani should never be seen in a negative light whenever or where ever it is being read. If one reads and listens to any path with full focus and attention I am sure it can have as much effect as doing simran.

Place yourself beneath all men`s feet, and you will be uplifted; serve Him in this way.
pavahu charnaa tal oopar aavhu aisee sayv kamaavahu.

Know that all are above you, and you shall find peace in the Court of the Lord.
aapas tay oopar sabh jaanhu ta-o dargeh sukh paavhu.

You keep doing simran, and the more and more your mind begins to surrender to the will of Waheguru, you will find your own answers coming from within. Your soul will automatically start telling you right from wrong... :-)

FIrstly, I understand that a 'brahmacharya' is the ultimate yogi that not only abstains, but actually has no kami thoughts either.
You see, there is a huge difference between just abstaining or actually being brahmacharya.
It's about semen and "ojas"..... and "ojas is the strong subtle energy within us that travels along the spinal fluids... therefore it can go anywhere from the lower mooldhar chakra up to the top crown chakra..However, we have to channel it, to make it rise, because the mind and panjj dhoots will automatically keep it lower down.
The goal is not about abstaining, but the brahmachrya directs all this energy into Spiritual energy instead of sexual.
The whole diversion of sexual energies into spiritual energies is a big deal and it's what the "moolabandha" or root lock in Kabirji's shabad is about. In yoga, this is a major goal but it is very misunderstood in the west, where they tend to mix the tantra, tantric and kamasutra.. into porn fantasires (I'm not going to go into this because these are separate topics themselves)
Going back to the 'ojas"..which is the subtle energy....I would try and imagine it as the energy that gives you that ultimate joy, climax or orgasm (you can imagine how powerful this subtle energy can be).. and note that this experience cannot be physically quantified or measured in any way since it is completely subtle, except for the physical discharge of semen..... Now, let's also accept that there is no greater personal and joyful experience than an orgasm.......But let's also remember that this energy is the 'ojas' that is channeled down to the lower chakras where kundalini is dormant....Therefore, it is energy channeled in the opposite direction from the higher throat, third eye and dasam/crown chakras.....it's antagonistic from spiritual joy of union with God.
The brahmacharya channels this kaam energy towards more perfect and genuine spiritual energy. He enjoys much greater experiences than orgasm with union and marriage to husband lord. The brahmacharya is the greatest 'soul bride' in gurbani.
I mentioned about  a person that simply abstains as being different to brahmacharya......you see a brahmachrya does not have his ojas transforming into semen, therefore he will never be having wet dreams.  However, a person abstaining may end up having plenty of wet dreams if the mind is still having thoughts and sexual urges . ie. when he sees the odd pair of boobs or someone desirable. REMEMBER that ''Thoughts'' can be satogun, rajogun or tamogun because they are still maya.....and these subtle thoughts and urges are enough to promote physiological  production and discharge of semen.
It's very well documented in the west that people who abstain. very often end up having other personality disorders, psychological problems, social and physical difficulties. etc. They can  end up very repressed and sexually frustrated, which in itself is understandable since their abstinence leads renders them unable to fulfill lower sexual desires.... it's like trying to hold this energy within, dampen it, mask it and suppress it.....only  leads to levels of internal frustration... This abstaining does NOT help them physically or spiritually in any way.   When anyone suppresses any sort of energy, then the energy will always find another route to break through.  We mannukhs suffer these same consequences if we try and suppress different emotions, since they only lead to physical ailments and illnesses.

Your question of whether any one has experienced the effects of abstaining for their meditation progress or experience ?
Well, that is slightly difficult to answer because it isn't a simple yes or no.....You see, you learn and get to a point where any bhog with your partner becomes a divine experience and then No, It doesn't affect you or dampen you spiritually.....in fact it makes you more spiritually elevated. ....Again,.. very difficult to explain.. but it's like enjoying meditating and simran because you are experiencing the God that is inside your own body and experiencing God inside your partner's body.
However, if your intentions are more kaam, perverse or purely physical,..then you will feel some degree of guilt or anti-climax afterwards along with a spiritual dip.  Most people verify that excessive semen discharge leads to a major decline in amrit rass and also inhibits further nadis from opening up.
The key is in having the initial motivation to channel as much internal energy towards spiritual ascension. Then. kaami thoughts, or intentions occurring in day to day life, will slowly begin to diminish.  Seriously, you don't have to force yourself to look the other  way or try forcing thoughts out of your mind. Neither do you need to suppress them, as that just leads to the common abstinence problem mentioned. I reckon it kind of comes naturally with increased meditation, just as desires for taste of tongue diminish,  the desires for possessions and desires for power...then the carnal desires also follow route and begin to fade away.

Simple answer is not a yes or a no... but the question is who is the ''real pakhandi or faker''?
It's me and you mate...us... the manmukhs..that question the integrity or higher order of some other gursikh.
    ....
You may say, ''what gives the other gursikh such higher order or status ?"
Well, i would say that if there is some gursikh or bhai sahib amongst us that could teach us a thing or two, and in turn we may learn something from them..... then in turn, they would have such a higher order/status than me & you.
So if I want to be a faker and question the teacher.. then that makes me the real pakhandi.

Besides the guy doing the slating is from the group of missionaries that deny dasam bani, deny naam simran and very openly promote khula maas(from macdonalds) instead of looking at meat issue with regards to nihang/warrior/jhatka tradition.

They have the charms and persuasions of wrongly distorting gurbani for their own personal agendas.... so what deal and how difficult would it be for them to distort the lifestyle, kamayee, gyaan of some gursikh ?

I look forward to some more interesting postings from this.

Singhji, it's a little difficult to explain but I don't think t lures you away from real bhagti.
We have to use some form of tool to help focus and put our fixation on bhagti.
When meditating, some people use a little black dot or mandala to stare at. Some use a candle flame or jyot, but as sikhs, we use the dhun of gurmantar, tikuti, focus between brows, navel..etc..
I've learned that it is trying to find the right jugti that suits each of us according to how much devotion and bairaag we have.

I thought I would share some key points made in a book I read recently. Some of you might find the information contained within useful in your own personal spiritual journey's. Enjoy...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Ringing-Sound-Introduction-Current/dp/0966535804/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390990288&sr=8-1&keywords=the+ringing+sound
Do you Hear Ringing in Your ears?
If you said yes, you are not alone. Millions and millions of people have sought medical advice hoping to find an answer to the ringing in their ears, only to find there is nothing that medical science can do for them. They are told they suffer from tinnitus or similar maladies.
Although these buzzing, ringing, rushing sounds have been given new names by medical science, they are not new. They are perhaps as old as humankind. In the past, a great deal was written and taught about how to use these sounds productively. Techniques associated with the inner sounds involve the development of internal energy or what may be called spiritual power. Modern practitioners of such techniques often refer to these sounds as the sound current.
Sound current techniques also hold great potential for the expansion of consciousness. To reach into the sound current’s mysteries is to begin a personal adventure of self-discovery.
    What does it sound like?
The auditory perceptions we have been referring to may be perceived in many ways. Commonly, they take the form of ringing sounds. They may be perceived as anything from a ringing, or buzzing (like the sound of a florescent light), to music. A common analogy likens the experience to that of listening to high-tension electric power lines. Anyone who has stood near one of the colossal Erector Set-style metal towers with suspended power lines, especially when the air is moist knows the crackly hissing noise.
Please do not be discouraged if you do not relate to the current descriptions. Just because you do not see an exact description of what you hear does not mean that you are not dealing with the sound current. Many other descriptions will follow and still only relatively few of the possible manifestations of the sound current will be explicitly described.
Generally, the “sounds” are first noticed in the right ear, but may be detected anywhere. As we will eventually see, these “sounds” are not sounds at all. The sound current is energy passing through an energy channel near the ear. It is only interpreted as sound.
The list below describes the various ways in which the sound current may be perceived is to catalogue them and give examples.
The first list is from a classic yoga book. It describes some of the more common ways in which the sound current may be perceived. Each description is preceded by its Sanskrit name
    1. Cin nadam : Like the hum of the honey-intoxicated bees; idling engine vibration; rainfall; whistling sounds; high frequency sound.
    2. Cincin nadam : Waterfall, roaring of an ocean
    3. Ghanta nadam : Sound of a bell ringing.
    4. Sankha nadam : Sound of a conch shell
    5. Tantri vina : Nasal sound, humming sound like that of wire string instrument.
    6. Tala nadam : Sound of small tight drum.
    7. Venu nadam : Sound of a flute.
    8. Mridamga : Sound of a big brass drum
    9. Bheri nadam : Echoing sound
    10. Megha nadam : Roll of distant thunder.
Additional common descriptions would include the chirping of cricket(s) or boiling teakettle whistling. Flowing water or wind are also common descriptions. These sounds can be of a high frequency, like florescent or halogen light, or of a very low frequency with an undulating or even slowly oscillating palpable physical quality. They may be smooth and harmonious, or very rough and jangly. They may be barely audible or seem more deafening. Often these tones appear just at the edge of hearing or sound very distant. When they seem close and loud, they actually vibrate the physical body.
    When Would I Hear it?
The sound current is most noticeable during periods of high stress or paradoxically, deep relaxation. It may be fair to say that perception of the sound current is most notable when the body’s homeostasis is either highly threatened or highly attuned. Perception of the sound current may be particularly strong under the following circumstances:
Sleep Deprevation Illness or High Fever Influence of Drugs and Alchohol Physical or Emotion Trauma All of the above bulleted items relate to altered states of consciousness. They also represent potentially dangerous situations for the physical body. None of these is advised for inducing perception of the sound current. Aside from the obvious dangers of employing such methods, there is an inherent distortion of the natural experience associated with the stress created by such methods. Consequently the psyche cannot interpret the resulting perceptions well. The quality of subsequent experiences is also compromised by the body’s attempt to recover from the onslaught of imbalanced energy.
The sound current can be explored in its positive aspects through quiet inner stillness or focused energy technique. The following practices are recommended for enhancing perception of the sound current and personal vitality in general:
Deep Relaxation Techniques (Yoga) Certain Types of Breath work Shabad Surat Yoga Exercise : Playing with the Sound Current
Sitting quietly and comfortably with your eyes closed; listen to the sound curernt’s tones. Locate where the tones appear to be within or near your body.
Now isolate a tone on the right side of your head. If one is not there then simply intend to find one. Play with the sound by smoothing its vibrations or raising its pitch by gently reaching into it and intending a harmonious result.
Once you have a nice clean tone, see if you can move it to your crown chakra, or hair swirl. Listen to this chakra tone for a few minutes with a quiet mind. Observe yourself and you sound current carefully as you listen.
    Changing Tones
In sound current mediation techniques, these sounds maybe modulated to produce desired states of conscious awareness. Specific states are associated with certain tones. Knowing a tone allows one to summon a specific related state of awareness.
    Seeing the Sound Current
Many people receive light impressions while perceiving the sound current. Close your eyes. Imagine you are inside your head looking at the inside of your forehead, just above and between your eyes. From that place listen to the sound current and observe. Do not judge.
    Receiving the Sound Current
Most people do not consciously perceive the sound current. It is filtered out on a subconscious level. As an example of how it happens, listen to a spiral seashell. The white noise it produces is an amplification of the sound of moving air. A similar noise occurs in your own ears. It is always there, but you do no hear it. The reason you are not aware of its presence is that your brain does no consider it critical to your physical well-being, since is does not require conscious attention or action. The information is regarded as non-threatening, monotonous, background noise. It is considered superfluous and is there fore disregarded. It never reached you on a conscious level.
But if a strong wind picks up, then that is a survival issue. Your brain is interested in threatening weather conditions. Suddenly, you hear the sound of moving air very well, because it is above normal background limits. But when our systems are running within normal tolerances, background information is not reported to the conscious mind.
    Exercise : Shifting Awareness
Sitting comfortably, lightly touch your forehead just above and between the eyebrows. This is called the “third eye chakra”. With your eyes closed move your awareness to that point. Allow several seconds to get a feel of being there. Now, move your hand to the back of your head. Touch lightly on the knob of the back of your head, which is opposite your third eye chakra. This new area is called the “willpower” because it is the source of your personal will. With eyes closes, send your awareness to this new point. Get a feel of being there. Next repeat this exercise without your finger, using only your awareness. Then move your awareness to the center of your head. From there, move back in you head until you find a natural resting place for your awareness. This will be the place from which you will do your beginning meditation techniques.
Exercise : Listening to the Sound Current
Mantra meditation is the foundation of sound current meditation. When you are comfortable with that technique, it is time to add the sound current.
The sound current is usually noticed first in the right ear. Right-side tones lead up to the higher awareness. This is the easiest and most secure way to begin. Simply listen for the sound in, or near the right side of the head.
In time, you will hear buzzing, ringing or roaring sounds. They may come as a feeling or vibration more than hearing. You may perceive the sound current as light. As you listen, you will become more connected with the sound current. It may seem familiar, like something you remember from a long time ago. You may hear many other tones. Listen to the highest, finest vibrating tone. Gently monitor your impressions. Listen to your own inner knowing. Be your own guide.
Exercise : Following the Sound Current
Once you are comfortable with mantra mediation and listening to the sound current, you can begin playing in the tones. Essentially the procedure is to begin with mantra mediation to quiet the mind and enter into a higher state of awareness. When you hear then sound current, begin listening for the higher, finer tones on your right side.
When you are listening to a tone on your right side, it may be you hear another higher, finer tone further to the right. Move your attention to that tone. It will lead you to higher fields of awareness that constitute greater realms of energy and wisdom in the Cosmos and in your own being. Remember the journey moves simultaneously into inner and outer worlds as you follow the sound current up and back to the right.
During the process you usually lose track of your mantra. You are then using the sound current as your mantra.
    Currents of Sound
The sound current is like two rivers of energy. One flows down to the manifestation. That is the left-hand side. The other flows upward, back to its Source. Perceived as a distance, these rivers are shinning ribbons of light. As your awareness draws closer you being to hear the sounds of rushing waters. You can sit by the river’s edge and be soothed and enlightened by the sounds of dancing cataracts. Or you may enter into the stream. There you will be transported. Your Inner Awareness determines the final destination. The ideal path is to learn at the river’s edge until your conscious becomes familiar with the flow. Simply listen at first. Then you can enter. All this is directed by your intent. Proceed like you know how. On some level you do. Spirit will acknowledge you intent and guide you.
Exercise : Entering the Sound Current
Enter the sound current is accomplished by choice, or intent. Focus your attention into it rather than on it. This a bold manoeuvre. It can sweep your consciousness away. The securest method is to maintain the focus of your consciousness on the crown of your head. This crown chakra is located at your hair swirl just behind the top of the head.
Allow your spiritual sight to follow the sound current. Think of it as a flying portion of your awareness by remote control from your crown chakra. When your session is complete, return your all thoughts to your physical body.
    What should I expect?
Good question. The answer is limitless. Expect a quiet, peaceful mind, which remains with you longer and longer throughout the day as you practice. A sense of inner centering will grow. From that place of Inner Silence in your Self, you will be able to flow more easily in all realities and situations including daily life.
You may see other beings, other worlds, or manifest any number of psychic experiences. These are the worlds of the mystics. Humans are powerful beings. You are in charge. Always use your best judgement. Take command when required. You may call upon your own inner higher awareness for guidance. Be reverent of everything, but do not be overly impressed by anything. Do not be afraid. Listen to your feelings. You are connected to all things. In a very real sense, you are the center of your world. In that place, you are more powerful than anything you meet in mediation. Trust your inner Self. Spirit will guide you.
    Final note
I have studied with many master teachers. Much of the information I have been exposed to was considered too potent for the general public. All the secret and popularized practices I have studied, and all the other energy techniques with which I am familiar, pale in comparison to sound current techniques.
There is power, wisdom, awareness and great mystery in the sound current. Listening to the sound current will help you become aware of the awareness of the Cosmos. It will bring Self-Awareness. Listening to the sound current is becoming aware of awareness Itself.
