Yeh, uncut hair is a biggie!.........I'm sure Paapiman you will find a number of references.
In simple explanations, I would say that uncut hair increases and strengthens the energy fields...as if filling in the holes of a sponge. This energy of a field around the body helps and increases the strength and connection to God. ....It's no wonder that the Rastafarians often say that their long uncut hair in dreadlocks are like "antennae" to connect with "jah" (their term for lord).
A few members that have known of me for a while, are also aware that I was always a mona and was mona when  I was trying to get into meditation about 4-5 years ago, At the time I was clueless and didn't know where to start, but all I knew was that I had to jap...>>that was the Hukam<<      I had no intention or mindset about keeping hair, rehat or even getting serous about sikhi. It's just that as I got deeper into self-spiritual learning and meditation; a strong affinity and connection with growing and keeping khes also developed. It was difficult to explain but I just started growing my hair and couldn't explain to anyone that for some reason it felt like a sacred ang of my body. Sacred in the sense, that it was helping bridge a connection to the almighty. After a series of months and some combinations of events, I began delving into gurbani and sikhi with more seriousness. Then came a day when I knew I was ready to start learning about what is and how to wear a pagg.

I cannot begin to imagine how pleasant the scene would be when Guru Ji were singing Gurbani and Bhai Mardana Ji were playing rabab accompanied by sweet chatter of birds in dawn with fragrance of flowers in the morning breeze.

It sounds nice.  Although the above is not a rabab but on a side there is something magical about the sound of Rabab or 1or 2 stringed instruments.
The following video lifts your spirits up. Very Beautiful!

Now people are just going about in circles discussing topics that have already been discussed and using same arguments over and over again. Nothing new is added so the topic will be closed.

For the record, I'm pure vegetarian......and I fail to see where did I say it's okay to kill if you want? Stop putting words in my mouth.
What I meant was: Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian involves the killing but being vegetarian involves lot less karmic burden as compared to non-vegetarian. It implies that the debate on This-vs-That is useless mind's habit where we forgot that the real thing is be out of karmic cycle by putting the dhayan/concentration on that which will lift us Spiritually. Concentrating on Vegi as well as Non-Vegi would NOT make you or me Spiritually advanced. e.g If you're pure-vegetarian but constantly debates about the benefits of being vegetarians (non-killers), then your mind is still concentrating on vegi-nonvegi.
Don't make This-vs-That your profession. Be wise to see beyond. And again, I'm a vegetarian and thinks that being vegetarian gives me somewhat more edge on the thoughts of the mind; because after-all: we are what we eat.

How would the Singhs know if a woman is menstruating?  Do the Singhs have a special device that can tell them which female within the 4 walls of a Gurudvara is on her menstrual period? The Singhs must be very highly developed souls to know exactly which woman is on and which one isn't.

What's the reason for slandering the Yogi ?  Did he claim to be a sant?
Satkiran, you don't have to slander to prove that you are white and at the same time NOT affiliated with 3HO.   You can learn tons of stuff from Yogis talks, lectures and videos. He had plenty of gyan to give but it's up to you if want to go low enough to pick the grains of sugar from the sand or stay in the elephant-mind

I see sant as a "subjective" personal thing in the relation between the sant and his students. Sant is not an official title.

Gurfateh the easiest way to know if If we judge them in accordance to Gurbani. In the Sahaskriti Salok you get the salok, 'Mantran Ram Ram Naman' and then the other thing you have to look for is the virtues that are mentioned in the Sri Suraj Parkash. The parsang where Jahangir asks Sain Mian Mir what the characteristics of a Saint are and from the discourses betwwen Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and his Sikhs along with Sri Guru hargobind Ji and his Sikhs on the qualities of a sain. Through these a person can jusdge if the person they meet in the street is a sant or not. Hope that helps?

This is a tricky questions since we have to deal with both poetry and history here. In terms of whether the incarnations of the past has happened in history, Bhai Gurdas writes:
    ਬਿਸਨ ਲਏ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਦਸ ਵੈਰ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਜੋਧ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ।
Bisan Laay Avataar Das Vair Virodh Jodh Sanghaaray.
Visnu incarnated ten times and decimated his opposing warriors.

    ਮਛ ਕਛ ਵੈਰਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਵਨ ਬਉਧਾਰੇ।
Machh Kachh Vairaah Roopi Hoi Narasinghu Baavan Baudhaaray.
The incarnations in the forms of fish, tortoise, swine, man-lion, dwarf and Buddha etc. have happened (roop hoye)

Now the question comes - are we really talking about animal forms  here? This is where the tricky part comes in because much of Indian history is written in mythology. So historical happenings have been embelleshed with mythology because traditionally for Indians, it was not the details of a certain historical event that was the important thing. What was important was the message that came out of it.
There was a discussion here many many years ago on whether Hanuman was a monkey. One user mentioned that anthropological and archeological research has suggested that there were tribes in the past that used monkeys, boars etc as their tribal symbol.. So if wars happened between these two tribes, - the later "historians" would recount it as an army of boars against an army of monkeys.. Now due to these embelleshments many people of India have starred themselves blind on the story and not looked into the deeper meaning being conveyed.. But in fact we are talking about human beings... When you Watch sports they will say "The bulls have entered the arena" when refering to Chicago bulls etc.. Obviosly we are not talking about real bulls here running around on the field :p

In Bachitar Natak of the Dasam Granth before the hundreds of pages of avatars Begins, Guru Gobind Sing writes:
    ਸਾਧ ਕਰਮ ਜੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਜਗਤ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
Because of virtuous actions, a person is known as a devta (god)
And because of evil actions, he is known as asura (demon).15.

Then Begins the many hundred pages of battle descriptions between the gods and demons. With these verses in mind you will think that we are dealing with "history" in the form of mythology and poetic embellishment. Even Sikh authors did this-  Bhai Kesar Singh Chibbar for instance plays with the name Singh (lion), saying the goddes Chandi (representing war) is riding the Singhs (ie warriorhood has descended upon the Sikhs). This is playing with the Century old imagary of the goddess Chandi riding a tiger into battle.

No we dont worship them. Worship is for Akal Purakh alone however some of these devtas has become symbols of certain aspects of God. .For instance Saraswati has become the aspect of knowledge and wisdom so many Indian writers have traditionally made a prayer to Saraswaty (ie the creative aspect of God) before they wrote their books. Does that make sense?

Amardeep Singh Ji, this forum has been on a one track path for the last year or so. But as Admins, Neo and yourself should be more active on those who cause this constant disruption.

Like most people, even those learning about Sikhi wish to take the easy way out by having it spoon fed to them. I remember before technology and the internet, I used to spend hours upon hours listening to katha, reading books, and with my Vidya Ustad, who I used to keep up, till 10 or 11 at night with questions.

Forums are good, and well needed IMO.

This is for those who may be interested, I have had the opportunity to write a number of books recently, initially they were for sponsors of the podcasts but due to demand I have decided to put some of them out on a self publication site. Slowly they will increase in number with the Sarkutavali Teeka and Gagar Cho sagar also being added in June and August respetively.

At the moment there are three books available to purchase which are the 'Sahaskriti and Gatha Teeka by Mahant Ganesha Singh', 'Matra by Baba Sri Chand Ji' and 'The Jap Ji Sahib Katha 01 - Mul Mantra Katha by Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindrawale'
They are all on the following link

Thank you, and just so you anyone is aware there is no profit for these books as they all go back into the Sikhism in Snippits podcast

There is also a change in people now. In recent years we have had many people here who are obsessed with certain topics (almost bordering OCD level) and they spend all their time merely destroying the forum. They are not here to contribute with anything, - they spend more time causing trouble and ruining the topics than they do actually contributing and spreading their knowledge (which some of them actually do have.. Their knowledge just gets drowned in all the noise and drama they create). It gets too tiresome for many who are here to learn, - hence they leave again..
I dont think we had those same problems 10 years ago when this topic was created - at least there was an understanding here that all were siblings in faith and we are on the same path though we might disagree.. now people here discuss as if we are the enemies of each other and people who disagree have to be destroyed.  This forum indeed has been a great ressource for many of us still writing here and had a great influence on our lives. Too bad with all these haters who are merely here to play games, cause trouble and contribute with zero.
May the Guru bless us all with some akl and make this forum great again.
