  1. neither does guru sahib refer to themselves as dusht daman, nor do they write anything about the supposed battle fought by dusht daman. I think sooraj prakash also talks about dusht daman.
  2. really good effort by bhindri taksal and the gurmatveechar singhs. However, I listened to a bunch of the files yesterday and although its a good resource for people that cant find a taksali ustad for santhia, it really doesnt compare with doing santhia properly with a good ustaad. To take full benefit from these recordings one would already have to have knowledge of all the small rules, and have to understand where jamkees and vishraams go in, or have to be able to somehow pick up on them just by listening to the bani instead of having someone explain it. But if someone has already done atleast a little santhia, this is an amazing resource
  3. you are honoured that a great soul is visiting darbar sahib? :? Dalai Lama should be honoured to be visiting darbar sahib. dithae sabhae thaav, nahee thudh jaehiaa.
  4. I agree with you 100%. Very few youth in Canada read teekas or listen to katha, and hence have never been exposed to some of the things that Sukha Singh says. It was remarkable how many people came up to me in the hours proceeding the keertan darbar and told me how much new stuff they learned and how so many of their questions were answered in his katha. maharaj kirpa karde rehan.
  5. "4. Bhausaria claimed sataie balvandaie vaar is not part of gurbani, this claim crept into sikhi and was later supported by prof sahib singh who many sikhs beleive an one and only authority to translate/interpret sri guru granth sahib ji punjabi. " i never knew that sahib singh never believed in raamkalee kee vaar. Is there any physical proof for this that i can read where he says this...it would be really useful for when people try to push sahib singh down the throats of everyone.
  6. I must say seeing the Singhs was wicked. The panth could use more pracharaks like Sukha Singh. While Sukha Singh did dharna the rest of the gurdwara emptied out and the darbar was packed for 2-3 hours. Hopefully Sukha Singh will continue coming to Toronto. Maharaj kirpa karde rehan.
  7. socialism is an economic system, not necessarily equal rights for everyone. It pushes for increased government involvement and more social programs, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your own beliefs. Most socialists that I know of are atheist, and believe in communism/marxism. Although I could be wrong, from the Sant Jarnail Singh speeches I have heard, I don't see how he could be classified as a socialist. His speeches don't really push for more government involvment, if anything he wants the Central government to stop meddling in the affairs of Punjabis. I can see a similarity with the socialists in that he tries empowering the oppressed, but other than that I agree that Guevera and Sant Jarnail Singh were both revolutionaries that represented the oppressed, but i fail to see too many similarities between the 2 of them in terms of political agenda. There are also alot of people say that che guevera and the cubans killed off the people that didnt agree with their socialist agenda, but then again, I haven't researched into this at all, so for all I know it could just be rumours or propoganda.
  8. he did a full week of nothing but dasam bani while he was here, I wonder if anyone made recordings of that
  9. maybe you don't understand my previous posts, but I wasn't putting blame on normal sangat for not understanding the jeevans of puraatan mahapursh, I was saying that the people that do know about them need to do a better job of spreading the knowledge. In terms of 'e-praharaks', the fact that they are spreading stories of singhs from the 80s is good, when did I say it isn't? My simple point was that those who know about puraatan mahapurkhs should do the same and thus spoon-feed information to the masses if they wish for the status-quo to change. Why are your posts so defensive? I haven't even challenged anything you have written but you take every comment as if I am trying to attack you.
  10. i said e-pracharaks, as in electronic-pracharaks, not gurdwarae. In any case though, the Gurdwarae are filled with 84 pics where I live, which I actually dont have much of a problem with... I was only responding to Neo talking about how Puraatan mahapurkh such as Baba Bir Singh are largely ignored.
  11. it may be sad, but if you want Sikhs to learn about our great history, it must be spoon fed. e-'pracharaks' are spoon-feeding stories of Singhs of the 80s, but no one is spoon-feeding stories of puraatan Gursikhs.
  12. "I don't think the truth about this incident will come out any time soon." I think that is the most sensible statement written in this whole thread. Although I think Parmar probably did have something to do with the Air India tragedy, and that he did do some stupid things, the fact is that in Canada he was never persecuted with anything. If they had true evidence he would have been charged. Everyone jumps over him today because the judge in the reyat and Bagri (another guy that did some stupid stuff) said that Parmar was the mastermind. The judge calling Parmar the mastermind is completely ridiculous and completely against the Canadian legal system. Parmar had no trial, had no way of defending himself, the Canadian legal system and media paints nothing more than a one-sided, biased picture about Parmar so they can get the public eye off of the govt., and get more people to react to their news stories.
  13. it is posted in the font 'GurbaniAkharHeavy', it shows up properly on my computer, I would have put it up in unicode, but don't know how to.

  16. As much as I agree keertan should be done in raag, is there any historical source that says that keertan was ever only done in raag? Isay this because I heard that after Guru Amardaas jee recited anand sahib they asked their sikhs to take dholkis and chhanae and sing anad sahib. i heard this in gyani Takhur SInghs katha a while ago, and am assuming that this taken from sooraj prakash. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with mainstream keertan tunes, nor modern day AKJ keertan...they play somewhat complex tunes instead of simple ones, and instead of learning these tunes, they could learn raag tunes in the same time. However, if you listen to old skool AKJ keertan the tunes were VERY simple, and required very little, if any skill to play and had none of the VAAAHGROOO in the middle either. Hence, I have no problem with people do keertan the way old skool AKJ did it...if anything I think that the older style AKJ keertan just makes keertan is more accessible to a common person. Also....thought I should point out that tapoban shouldnt be taken as a spokeperson for AKJ...tapoban gurdwara doesnt do VAAHGROOO in the middle or keertan, nor do they support switching shabads without finishing the original shabad, and some of them even believe keertan should be done in raag. Mainstream AKJ and tapoban are not as similar as they are made out to be.
  17. its on keertan.org i believe, have a look around on that site
  18. there are singhs whose lives were saved in car accidents because their dumalla didn't come off their head, so I assure you that you can wrestle and not have to worry about your dumalla. The whiplash in a bad accident is more force then a wrestler could assert.
  19. yeah, no problem...either i'll make a video of someone doing a dumalla and send you it, or I'll teach you in person one day. Just remind me if I forget.
  20. a good dumalla wont come off. If you wrap your kes in a keski and do it in a tight joora so it is on the on the 'fronter' portion of your head, and then do another dastaar over the top, it shouldnt come off.
  21. .........the return of dattaswami........... coming next week........... ............the return of balbir singh
  22. I'm assuming that those books provide references to other works since Giani Mall Singh is currently Granthi at Darbar Sahib and is very well read on Sikh history.
