  1. Apparently 50 - 60 years ago sightings of small people were not highly unusual, some people say their communities live underground. I cant remember the punjabi term for them.
  2. what exactly have u been reading? read the puratan granths such as panth parkash or suraj parkash.
  3. in that the number of posts is growing but a lot of the posts arent very interesting or insightful as certain views are a bit dull.
  4. Amardeep please provide a reference to what you are saying, I cant say I recall coming across that in Panth Parkash.
  5. Does anyone actually know who killed him and for what reason. With respect, I think its best to wait for results of investigations to come out before jumping to conclusions that it was carried out by people following a 'violent fascist ideology' and referring to them as 'extremist hostile elements'. Of course people arent gonna give two hoots about what the Akal Takht leaders say because they have shown themselves to be nothing more than a rubber stamp for Badal party. From Sucha Sauda to Dasam bani, to the recent beadbis in Harimandir Sahib and Akal Takht, they have showed their inability to represent the wishes of the Sikh masses and deal with a problem, such that even in the current election Badal was able to go and seek support from Gurmit Ram Rahim. There was a time when the Jathedar of Akal Takht, Akali Phula Singh, issued an edict stating that Maharaj Runjeet Singh was a tankhaeea - even his own Sikh serviceman refused to talk to him until he sought forgiveness from the Akal Takht. If the Akal Takht leadership continued to have this much respect we would probably not have many of the problems we do today. Then again the maryada for Akal Takht in those days was that you were only allowed to sit in Akal Takht in Bir Asan and shastardhari. Now one is not permitted to do seva in there unless they are wearing a pyjami and it would appear unless they have a waist line greater than 40inches. I do hope the situation calms down, if Saroops of Maharaj have been burnt on the streets then we all know the situation is going to get a lot more violent before theres any signs of peace.
  6. to be honest I kinda see the humourous side to it and agree with Blue Riders points regarding their mindset.
  7. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38144832@N03/ - According to these pictures Kala Afghana went to Hazoor Sahib.
  8. I dont think its a matter of wrong word choice. Rather it appears the right topics and being degrading by being dicussed within the wrong cultural sphere. The matter if not of ethnicity, class, sophistication or education but of poor cultural choices. Reminds me of when someone said Gurbani should be translated into ghetto language so more people can understand.
  9. There are a lot of unfair criticisms of Rattan Singh Bhangu made in popular discourse. The issue of sacraficing heads at all an metaphysical reason for explaining the capture of the Bandai Sikhs, the author is portraying the madness which ensues in ones desire for power. I commend the efforts of the translation, the Baba Santa Singh steek is much better as it offers in depth commentry and contexualises much of what has been written.
  10. in this video Giani Buphinder Singh talks about the relationship between the boparai taksal and budha dal - hes a student of giani inderjeet singh.
  11. Nicely put. Whether one subscribes to 'looking down' theories or not is irrelevant. The concept of Jat has several elements which perhaps scholary members of this form could elucidate upon. Whether or not we follow them and the distance they appear to be from our modern society lets not criticise them. Just because they may be difficult to uphold for many of us does not mean such traditions should be ridiculed and compared to talibanism. Such traditions were once prominent amongst our elders and continue to be seen amongst some Gursikhs today. Ofcourse this all seems a bit alien to the rensbhai ' paji penji' culture which many in Western countries have become accustomed to. Amongst the qualities of Gursikhs and shaheeds often referred to in puratan grants is jati as well as sati, hathi, tapi, jappi etc.
  12. The tradition of Chatka has institutionally only been kept alive by the Nihang Singhs and the Sikhs of Hazoor Sahib, its best to ask them what the purpose of the tradition is and hearing what they have to say. Its much more informative and an accurate reflection of why something happens as opposed to random people writing articles on what the Sikh Gurus apparently did and didnt teach. Akaaal
  13. Ginai Inderjeet Singh did katha with the Budha Dal of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji up until the madh. It has been maryada that students of Bhindra Sampradai are sent to do katha in the Budha Dal. Giani Inderjeet Singh was also the vidiya Guru of Giani Bhupinder Singh who is the current mahant at Boparai Taksal.
  14. Capitalism works on debt, in a profit making system one gains profit at the expense of another. This article which was posted here a while ago will shed further light on why poverty exists: http://www.relfe.com/plus_5_.html If everyone was given a million dollars it would most certainly become worthless. Its not about giving people money but giving food, shelter, education etc. This can be done without altering the world economy or finances, the world system doesnt have to be changed and people can continue making big profits. However, most people prefer not to share and this is indeed a consequence of the greedy economic system which functions throughout the world.
  15. 'World poverty is much bigger and much smaller than we had thought. It kills one-third of all human beings born into our world. And its eradication would require no more than 1 percent of the global product.' (Thomas Pogge, 2008: 64)

  17. Cant say im a fan of hip hop or rap, but i thought this song was really good:
  18. I have been reading Sau Sakhi Steek by Bhai Partap Singh of Mehta. Within his tremendous research he refers now and again Namdhari sau sakhis and shows an immense respect for the Namdhari movement. Amongst the Sampradai literature where reference has been made to Namdhari I have always seen the Namdhari Gurus addressed as Mahraja, i.e. Maharaja Partap Singh Ji. There seems to have always been respect between Mahapursh of different sampradai and the Namdhari, not sure if this still exists amongst the present generation.
  19. Some people have the attitude: "I heard its good to go jogging in the morning, Im still waiting for Guru Granth Sahib Ji to confim this before starting."
  20. Your problem is that your sole source of information is one website which you are using to make criticisms of an entire movement. What on earth is a sanatan mindset? What Nihangs say Sri Sarbloh Granth is only a Bir Ras Granth? The word Buchangi, Nihang and Akali has been interchangable throughout different times in history. Kahan Singh and Gurbax Singh were not two examples out of lakhs, your posts are becoming more ridiculous now Tony. Kahan Singh was the son of Baba Binod Singh and Gurbax Singh was successor of Baba Deep Singh Shaheed. There is a huge difference in someones name being Nihang and the title nihang being inferred on someone before or after their name. According to Rattan Singh Bhangu it was the rehat of the Buchangis which the Bandai Sikhs challenged and the Tat Khalsa were the Nihang Singhs. With regards to the colour blue this is also mentioned in Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jis bani as well as various other historical texts confirm the colour blue. You can choose not to accept them, this isnt the issue at hand. The points you are making are becoming weaker and weaker and I have no interest in replying to any further posts which you will undoubtedly make as your phobia of Nihangs will not allow you to miss any opportunity criticise them. European writings from the early 1800s confirm that the Sikh masses considered the Nihangs/Akalis to be the original Khalsa and revered them as demi gods. Surely the Sikh masses would have been aware if this group had only developed in the past few decades. Logic, reason and objectivity all imply that Nihang Singhs were around at the time of the 10th Guru, of course though was has no need to heed to any of these when they are filled with such a phobia and hate. Adios.
  21. Matheen, unfortunately much of the literature Budha Dal released over the past few decades were only printed in small amounts and available internally - thus its extremely dificult to get hold of, I have managed to track down a couple of people who have it so hopefully will get a copy soon.
