  1. I personally believe the biggest mistake we make is use violence as the first resort , this gizza acting as Sri Guru Gobind Singh is obviously powered by some party to cause a bit of mayhem , which he has succesfully achieved. We make the mistake of drawing the sword upon any persons/sect who disagrees with Sikhism ( one of the enemies to control is anger , we do our daily prayers to overcome this , but it doesnt seem to be the case) SGPC have power , if they wish they could have easily put a stop to this gizza , not physically but via literature. literature which lists , why this gizza is fake , why he is making a mockery of sikhism ? They could have bombarded the whole of India with the truth , but oh no , its more the opposite i.e. use violence . They have to think , what is the cause of this sects arising , who is behind it all , get to the root cause. The other thing ,if we just sit and do nothing , how would this affect our kids , what would happen if our kids follow this path , i'm sure we wouldnt just sit and carry on with life. Our biggest problem is that we have so many Gurudawars , its like a business , we fight amongst each other for power , theres no unity amongst us sikhs , for us to fight against these sects we must get ready to get along with ourselves .
  2. The gurudawara comitte could have been more pro-active , in the sense that , couple of times at the smethwick Gurudawara , Poilce have blocked roads , due to fighting , the recent one was in february . Obviously there is serious hatred between 2 parties or group of people with different beliefs , the question is what has been the outcome of the fighting at the Gurudawaras , i bet they are swept under the carpet , until next time.
  3. On radio vaskhi 103.5 yesterday, 2 presenter told very briefly that 1 person was stabbed in the chest 3 times and is in a critical but stable condition, 4 people have been arrested and currently being questioned. The didnt tell/know the cause of the fighting. It wouldnt surprise me if the council/police ban future events at handsworth park. The presenter said when in a meeting with the Police, they said we did our best to stop external entities causing trouble at the mela , but we cant cater for sikhs fighting amongst themselves
  4. I've been listening to radio vasakhi since it started and its going downhill since the license was given to the coucnil of sikh gurudawars , i think 3-4 years ago . On one hand the presenters are broadcasting to people telling them to come to the studio with their views , the other minute like this , refuse to let people on the air , plus there is alot of advertisement happening on the radio station ( money pulling stunt i think) , what has buying property , opening an IcICI bank account got to do with vasakhi apart from having money to buy and eat samosa and spring rolls It seems they have lack of presenters with valid material , theres nothing on the radio station that are making people aware about sikhism , all they do is play shabads/geets/advertisements
  5. In my personal view , becoming a baptised sikh should not be taken lightly a person should pratice living the disciplined life , a sikh who lives by this will not even consider being decorative or go to fashion shows etc , that sikh would be humble drowned in naam simran , helping the needy I cant remember the bhagat ,( sorry for beiing ignorant), who went to sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and said can i take Amrit , guru ji told him , no you are not ready yet , Guru Ji kept him waiting or shall I say was preparing him for 32 years ) - ps I will find out the name of this Bhagat but if anyone else knows please up2date this thread
  6. I dont think sikhi has become stylish or decorative , sikhi is what it was 300years + ago , its us people/humans that are changing nothing to do with sikhi.
  7. There is alot of top rated raagis , who know the skills when it comes to stringed instruments, tabla, raags etc.. , regardless of which community they belong , the problem is that no one is willing to share their knowledge openly theres are alot of material available , but the techniques are kept close to the chest. You take a look at say playing a piano, guitar , everything is written down , step by step , each technique is described and told to the student , whereas ( this is from my own experience) learning raags/tabla/stringed instrument , we lack in sharing this knowledge
  8. Hi Thanks Fatesingh , i have little knowledge about namdharis , yes i know little knowledge is very dangerous , is it true that the namdharis believe Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji , went to exile for 110 years or so and gave guru guddi to the Namdharis Satguru?
  9. I knew someone who converted to namdhari , dont know the full ins and outs , but have this question , which is if the namdharis believe the Gurguddi was given to their guru , that must mean they believe siri guru nanak dev jis teachings up to sri guru gobind singh ji and sri guru grant sahib ji , as they were one joyt light) , if so why dont they take Sri Guru Gobind singh Jis amrit?
  10. I think you are getting confused , the mind plays a lot of tricks on us humans , without guidance from the almighty truth , how does one human being know if he/she is honest, going on the right path, doing good for the community. How do we know this without the guidance of waheguru? We dont , simple as that ? We can spend our whole life chasing after materialistic things , wanting more and more setting our goals higher and higher , there should be a limit somewhere , sikhi doesnt say dont provide a good living for your family and yourself , but it also says dont waste your whole life after this so called good life, re-cite and remeber waheguru which should be the ultimate goal. Remembering waheguru will bring peace to your mind , and whether you have millions or just a dollar , you would be satisfied with what you have. I dont think you can generalise that sikhi doesnt do this , doesnt do that etc.. , you had a bad experience , it wasnt for you , but as vinegar said for you posting your questions there is obviously a dboubt in your mind whether you have done the right thing ( see mind playing tricks on you) you are continously telling your mind what i have done is right, i am helping others , socialising , earning a good living ,but in your back of your mind may be thinking have i done the right thing . Dont get me wrong here , i am not trying to judge you , but just a mere observation from the posts , i may be wrong ( most often are ) just a few thoughts
  11. I personally believe , that following any religion whole heartedly is a good thing , you must have FAITH. ( This is the key having FAITH , plugging along through good and bad times , always remembering waheguru) Religion is not a quick fix , and if i understand your comments , you wanted a quick fix , it isnt , religion is for life japji sahib ( http://www.sikhnet.com/sggs/translation/0004.html) kir kir krxw iliK lY jwhu ] (4-13, jpu, mÚ 1) kar kar karnaa likh lai jaahu. actions repeated, over and over again, are engraved on the soul. I also believe there are not many proper sikhs around , we pick and choose what our guru teaches us , and have that "doubt/question" in mind when practicing our Gurus teachings. Not all are blessed with the Nam ( religion) are the ones who are the lucky ones. Religion is not at fault when it comes to clean shaven, jobs , girls etc.. it is us humans who have created this environment and assume everyone should follow this realm , we live in a materialistic world , and throughout our lives are after a life , where we have money, nice cars, nice house , going out etc.. but in fact I believe we are forgetting the utmost truth and that is waherguru. I dont believe you got it wrong , but you wanted results immediately , you should have been persisitent and still can be , as Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrian walla said , if you want to know about sikhi , who are you going to follow? which literature are you going to read ? etc.. He said the the history of the Gurus , read the history of the saints who have become one with good i.e. Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji, Sant baba Nand Singh Ji, just to name a couple. These are just a few thoughts , ( kema Dha Jachak heh ) Sikhi is a way of life , and should be adopoted throughout your normal rotuine , remember waheguru , whilst you work, while you eat , while you walk etc.., and it should not stop you or be barrier.
  12. Dynamic Banda , i think you are missing the point . On one hand in a Gurudawa they preach , we should teach sikhi to our kids , practice sikhi , do part etc.. and on the other hand they are fighting , fighting in the Gurudawara in front of the Guru. How will the youngsters adopt sikhi if all they see is elderly men pulling beards, knocking off their turbans , if a non-sikh came into the gurudawara and did this , i'm sure they would react differently. How will we enhance the society and request for improvements if we are fighting amongst ourseleves ? In this particular case the fighting was for power i.e. elections
  13. what about siri guru granth sahib taken to pubs and clubs for weddings ? Are you going to say let them carry on ?
  14. On my way to the Gurudawara yesterday , I heard alot of cop cars passing by , low and behold when i reached the Gurudawara , the Police had blocked off the entire Road , there must be about 6-10 cop cars . My Mrs and her sister also went to the Gurudawara and later told me , 2 AmriTDhari Sikhs , standing outside discussing revenge , yes revenge One said to the other remember some time back I was in the Dharbar sahib and you pulled my beard ,.., well today i took revenge , ( he pulled the other guys beard yesterday ) and then said we are now equal , from now on you dont do anything to me and i wont to you. Violence at this Gurudawra has happened before in the past , and again Police were at the scene. The Question arises , how can this be stopped ? What impression are we giving to our children and the outsiders ? We protest when something bad is said about sikhi i.e. Taking Siri Guru Granth Sahib to Pubs / Clubs , banning plays etc This time it is Amrit Dhari Sikhs Fihting amongst themselves and in the DharBar Sahib infront of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, should the same bans apply here ? Please post your views ?
  15. What do the people living in India say ? Do they want Khalistan or not ? The other question is if we had khalistan , how many people not living in INDIA , will pack there bags and start living in the Khalistan state ? I think , a separate state would cause more grief and misery , as we are aware majority of the population in INDIA is Hindu. If we had khalistan , sikhs working in other states , probably be discriminated against e.g why dont you work in your own state , etc...
  16. I think you are missing the point From the little understanding i have khalsa is the pure Khalsa can be from any caste Who are the pure ones , they are the ones who 24x7 remember waheguru , see waheguru in everything , there minds are free its not about what they eat / what they wear etc..
  17. I personally think we shouldnt reply to these type of people who have only one thing ont here mind . Hopefully then , they will go away , the more we respond , the more they like it . sikhs2islam , just practice your religon ...period
  18. superb , she was excellent Sound Quality of video wasn't brilliant Why did that guy ( i gues it was her father / ustaad) come on stage and tighten the duggie , surely playing at that level she can tune it her self apart from that , it was superb
  19. good stuff , this is the funniest thread i have read to date , made me laugh , i probably laugh in my sleep
  20. Don't you think that , if you are born into a sikh family , ( i.e you believe in the sri guru granth sahib ) that we should should educate our children according to its teachings and try (not forcefully) make our children follow the sikh path ? When they have grown up ( god willing) they will follow that path and their partner follow the same path , rather than saying our children can marry a person from another religion without giving them an opportunity to learn and practice the sikh religion and if then they don't 'get any isnpiration from sikhism' , then they can decide on another path and find a suitable partner accordingly ? I also beleive that we humans compare ourselves to the GURUs too much, we haven't even got 0.0001% quality within us to justify our gurus actions , so the comparison is useless just a few thoughts
  21. This sad incident that happened to this poor girl is not about 'blame/fault' its a message that needs to be portrayed to the sangat, as to what is happening in society. If we don't educate the sangat how will they be vigilent , how will they be made aware of 'scum' that exist in todays society? I believe they way we got to see this is , 'what if , it was me or you ? what if it was my sister ? How would be react ? I bet we would react differently and would seek justice .
  22. try this site don't know if the shabads are there but worth searching the site http://www.gurmatsangeetproject.com/Pages/recordings.asp also try searching via following search engine http://mp3.sikhsearch.net/
  23. Good points Yes exactly my point , they can't defend them selves or make a noise , so how would we know / or have a sense of guilt that our actions are causing harm, whereas apply the same to an animal , it will defintely try to defend it self and make a noise ( hey don't kill me man or something ) which surely tells us don't kill it unless we are being attacked and are defending ourselves. what i am trying to ascertain is that , when certain level of praying and meditation is reached , the " less of" becomes zero in terms of eating flesh Also do you think for example , if you slaugtered and animal , cooked it /fried it or whetever then ate it , and after that did meditation/prayers would be o.k ?
