  1. Something has to be done . What do you suggest ? Thats the whole point , trying to change the mindset of the individuals , giving them hope that the future can be bright , Punjab is being killed !!!!! There are many educated and uneducated people in the pends , no one gives them a platform or an incentive to better their lives. If they get 5 million signatures and , hold a dialogue with the UN , you never know something good may come out of it . I agree up to a point that , running your own state/country requires the utmost planning , good leadership , the people on your side , good trades , business etc... and at the moment these seem non existence. But is it due to the fact the sikhs and other minorities are being oppressed . There may be "diamonds" in the community who want to make a difference , difference only if they are given the opportunity.
  2. because if the average person in Punjab speaks up , he/she is put down , falsely arrested , beaten up , threatened .... so the voice has to come from the outside
  3. Video has been removed They have there own personal agenda's and sadly they use and abuse the Gurudawara for them. The sangat should intervene and oust out these idiots These guys dont listen , dont compromise , they all think they are right in their own fantasy world.
  4. You never know ... tanks, machine guns, chemical weapons , rockets .... commando style .....Its good to know some form of martial arts but I cant see the average householder especially the elderly showing the culprits their moves " ter lah puth ek mukha set fayre key ... meh ready nee see LOL Wait my son , throw your punch again i wasnt ready " , I think more like they will be hoping someone comes to their rescue or can be called upon or at least know how to deter the enemy without actually physically engaging with them. In the London riots , the sikhs got together , there was a sense of unity ... i think that it is what we need , something in place where all come together. I agree with Dalsingh that its more of a mental game , being strong mentally .
  5. In my opinion ...When things get hot , i dont think knowing martial arts will help greatly , maybe one on one or a group , yes but on this scale here not knowing who will attack , how they will attack and with what weapons. IF we look at the bigger picture a) will the UK government allow us to train in warfare , hold weapons say in our gurudawara ? b) Do we have the intelligence organisations who constantly monitor for attacks . DO we put more pressure on the government asking them to protect our gurudawaras , protect the sangat when we hold large SMAGAMS c) Where do we get the training from ? Do we join the army ? Do we look for the sangat who know about warfare and get them to make us more vigilant and alert If we do all this behind doors are we then seen / labelled as terrorists , even though the aim is to defend the whole of humanity. d) Do we create pockets of neighbourhood waleh , whose aim is to report any news , events that could have an impact on our Gurudawara. I think the key is getting information out there making the people more alert and vigilant and if the shit does hit the fan , we know who to call other than the Police.

  7. I think the need to change the whole election process and in the presence of dhan dhan sri guru granth sahib ji maharaj .Let the sangat choose the candidate based on his/her merits. Each position should have a job specification , setting the roles and objectives . Then a selection process as to the best candidate who can meet the criteria should be selected. Then does this also set the precedence of who can and cannot do seva in a Gurudawara ?

  9. For many decades memory of Shaheed Bhai Mati Dass ji. Chabil existed serving many thousands of people with water, why is it deemed an encroachment all of a sudden ? Its all dirty politics and the governments tactics to cause hatred and violence amongst the minorities. How many more demolitions will take place due to so called encroachments. I dont see it duty of the Gurudawara to shutdown the Chhbeel it has a historical significance to the Sikhs , and the authorities need to become educated in their significance , and preserve history not demolish it ...... the question is what next ? If this type of thing happened in the UK , there would be an uprorar , the people would have a voice that would be heard in parliament . Petitions held and justice sought , but in India ... if the public stand up they will be beaten by the Police and made to shut up .

  11. Hopefully do wonders for them . Making them realise that in god's court religious labels will not be looked at but their actions will
  12. No , Sikh Parchar is not about conversion , but about making the person aware about Sikhi its beliefs and values.
  13. Why cant the Sikhs do the same ? Why not get organised , go to each village and do parchar , give out leaflets , talk to the people ( Like what Basics of Sikhi are doing and are already doing in Punjab ) . All we can do is educate all , the decision at the end of the day will be the individuals but regardless of what they follow , if they are getting closer to Waheguru , doing Seva , honest living , growing spiritually ( Guru Nanak Dev Ji's messge) then it is good.

    .

But surely Dhan dhan sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji has already given the Sikhs their identity , and what bigger identity does one need other than the one Dhan dhan sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji maharaj has given the Sikhs . I think they need to be educated , educated in the sense they dont need to break away and hold separate ceremonies but to also educate the rest of the Panth of their heritage given to them by dhan dhan sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji maharaj. Division is what we dont need , unity is what we need and I believe unity can only be obtained if we "all talk the same talk and walk the same walk " It is not about their intentions , as you said their intentions are probably very good but what is their purpose for setting up their own sect , especially having the same appearance as a Sikh. I personally feel we need to with open arms accept smaller sects into Sikhi , give them the importance , guidance and help so that they dont break away from the panth.

The thing i dont understand is that , dhan dhan sri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj gave the Singhs the identity of a Turban and kesh. They can follow who and what they like , but how can one tell them apart from Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Singhs ? I think . they have their own personal agenda and breaking up the Panth .
  16. Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Gur Ji Ke Fateh I dont know if you are aware of Basics of Sikhi , if not please take a look at their site they have loads of videos , easy to understand and very realisitc please take a look http://www.basicsofsikhi.com/ The rest penji , the journey the connection is between you and the almighty no one else and that will be unique to every individual. You can talk to waheguru in your own unique way wherever you are . I would say learn about the history, learn kirtan , learn gurmuki , learn learn learn , make it your way of life , its a life long beautiful committment, with its fair share of ups and downs but stick at it waheguru will 100% guide you regardless of what stage you are at but the most important thing is you want to make that change .
  17. I know , my accent isnt strong enough , i think i need to train my accent then ............job done LOL The point that I am trying to make is that over time , body wears out your mind says , punch, kick , kick to head , body says ..oh no !! not any more buddy knee caps , ankles only (LOL :) :) Even though training is good , I think we should be aware of other alternatives as well
  18. I think training learning a form of self defense is good ( I dont think its about me specifically( i use to learn martial arts when i was younger and have some idea what i would do if confronted) , but the normal person out their, be they young , middle aged , old ) Obviously the older you get the less mobile and agile one becomes. I think is more about basics , knowing what to do things like 1. Run to a well lit area 2. Shout loudly for help 3. Always have a phone on you , call the Police or family for help 4. Depending on where you are , knock on peoples doors , make them come out 5. Grab what you can , dhanda, brick, stones etc.. 5. If in a car , dont come out , have a dhanda in the car always ( as a last resort) 6, For me the biggest "know how" remember waheguru all the time , ask, talk to waheguru in times of hard and good times , The help and guidance will definitely come when needed. 7. The last resort if outnumbered/ one to one then I agree let the beast be unleashed I'm sure the above is from some kind of martial arts film i was in ...................... then I woke up :) :) :)
  19. I think we need to be more vigilant . Knowing what to do in situations where one/two against many get attacked upon/ cornered . What do we do ? Run, where to though ? Try to speak to them ? Fight them , take one out at least ? I know its easy to write these things but when in a situation where thugs, bullies, idiots attack you for no reason ( i probably freeze :) : ) :) and get beat ) What should we do ?
  20. Basically the "movement" wants Punjab to be free from the oppressors. A takt where all Sikhs can go to to get guidance , help, support Quote from their website It is not enough to replace the current governance of the Akal Takht with new leadership. It’s how we arrive at new leadership, the process we undertake for decisions, and developing representative processes that will ensure our future leaders are equipped for success in their roles. Our current leadership is a symptom of the lack of accountability and processes—the root cause for many of the issues faced by Sikh institutions. Most Sikhs in the diaspora have been focused on laying foundations in their new homes and providing for the basic needs of their families. There was no space or resource to develop coordinated responses to attacks or even to raise voices in articulating a response. NEW METHODS Today, we have tools for collaboration. We have a global and interconnected community. The lines between home and foreign lands has become increasingly blurred. With a community of Sikhs living under threat and oppression in Punjab, it is the global community that must organize and provide the thought leadership necessary to bring about change in Punjab. The most powerful institution through which to effect positive change is the Akal Takht. If you have a desire to improve the condition of the Sikh community, you now have more opportunity and better ability to engage than at any time in history.
  21. No need to worry bro :) :) ... I dont think having it inside, outside or anywhere around the world has a major impact on Sikhi spreading. I think in order for Sikhi to spread , start with cleaning up the Gurudawara , my little understanding of Sikhi is that its about compassion, seva, meditation, sharing etc.. ... a way of life. Now if we tell all fellow human race without telling them to convert to Sikhi but follow Sri Guru Nanak dev jis mission , Compassion , Seva , meditiation , share etc. If all were doing that the world would be a great place and if a call was to be made to these fellow beings to fight against injustices, with same mindsets , i'm sure all would get together regardless of their background. In Gurudawara , the whole purpose is to learn take something away so that we go in "dirty" come out "clean /cleaner" , become more purer by acting upon the Guru's message.( Its hard I know , but my view is that if we go back to Gurudawara basics , set the precendence as to what should be done in the gurudawara would be a great start . But then the question is if their is a takht inside/outside of Punjab , how many Gurudawara/individuals will follow its Hukam ?) We can only hope and pray the fight still carries on , and i think it will and will fizzle out many times , but the true gursikhs will keep on trying and with wahegurus kirpa , be successful.
  22. The structure is already there in Punjab , the history etc.. Outside of Punjab people have the freedom to practice, rally, preach sikhi , more or less do what they want to enhance their Sikhi. In Punjab do they have this ? with recent events i dont think so . Who are we going to help , the people back in Punjab move them away from drugs, alcohol, corruption. In Europe , how will it help the people back in Punjab , if they still are oppressed but we have takht in europe some where. I think a big shake up needs and will happen in Punjab get rid of the corrupt leaders .
