  1. Whats the biggie about wearing a kalgi? Dont bride grooms in Panjab wear it? Or all the Royalty of India inc the Panjabi Sikh Kings/Princes? Soon it'll be controversial to wear a turban because the gurus wore it!

  3. I have a poster - just about larger than A3, that I want to scan . It has tiny detailed Panjabi writing on it, so must come out clear. I was thinking perhaps formatting it as a pdf document because it allows you to really zoom in to read the tiny writing. Any advice on how it can be done or where? I am in West London at the mo. Maybe if one of the local forum members want to take up the task??? Then I want to get it uploaded to this site for others to view. I cant mail it or give to anyone as if it gets lost/destroyed I wont be able to get another copy. PS: Just to pique your curiosity: it is a family tree of (I think) the nirmala samparda lineage of sadhus, sants, mahants, shish etc from the gurus times to more or less contemporary period. It contains hundreds of names!
  4. would that be Sant Sujan Singh who did kirtan for Baba nand and isher singh of nanaksar?
  5. Cheers for the suggestions guys. I was recommended the Penguin Publishers version too. 'Khalsa Dharam Shastar' 1914. Would this be availablefrom places like British Library?
  6. I remember my mum telling me this point as well. She attended the final diwan in Wolves(?) as a child. A family story is that BabaJi would hold their diwans in circuit around the region. She told me that quite a few families from Birmingham decided not to travel all the way to the diwan in Wolves -coz of the distance - and that eventually BabaJi would be heading back to Birmingham area, anyway. My maternal grandfather had an urge that the family should go to this particular diwan the day, which they did. It turned out to be the last programme they ever did! All about karma, man!
  7. I plan on ordering some books from India and am looking to get a Panjabi Steek version of the Gita. 1. Can someone recommend a good quality bookstore there? 2. Canyou recommend a good Steek translation? 3. Any other recommended books (panjabi or English) on Sikh/Sanatan philosophy/theology? Fateh
  8. I was once told that some of the power of Gurbani comes from the fact that if prononced correctly certain meridian points within the mouth are stimulated by the tongue, lips etc. This sequence of stimulation 'generates' (or whatever the technical term is,) the chi/ki/prana energy within the body and effects you accordingly. Has anybody heard this theory before?
  9. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EgpSHpATAIM&...feature=channel I got the above link from sikhnet.com. I've never heard of him before yet his poem recital just seems so familiar. Listen to his voice; so melancholic and haunting! Do you guys know anything further of this poet?
  10. i agree with what you say chatanga (even though I have not had the opportunity to listen to them). Furthermore, and what i think get up some peoples noses - is his charismatic persona on stage. I dont think people object to his message its just that they envy his following, stlye of preaching, and of course, the donations he gets. Also ,I dont think its normal sangat who criticise; even sants/sadhus suffer from the green eyed monster, at times leading to killing those who they dont like.
  11. I read an article years ago, somewhere in central India the muslim ,sikh and hindu communities get together to hold a langar on important days for all three faiths.
  12. in that case the 9th guru should have left the mughals to deal with the Kashmiri Hindus; it had nothing to do with the Sikhs. Maybe you prefer the Rawanda scenario when the world DID leave them be?
  13. Send a Jatha of Singhs to roam the area and deal with these Tali-Tubbies. They did in the past and can do it now. The Pak Govt has obviously abandoned half of Pakistan to these barbarians. NWPF district is as much a home to us as Ludhiana or Moga. All part of Greater Panjab.
  14. just to digress..... check out the 'sain zahoor' links on the side. Just by watching or listening to him you are taken to a Poonjab of Olde. Magical.
  15. My interpretation from casually browsing the forums and articles (maybe completely wrong, mind): SGPC states that if an amritdari breaks their rehat they are no longer a Sikh - not even a sehajdhari sikh. But anyone else can call them selves a Sikh, if they only just memorise parts of bani (mool mantar) and declare it publicly. The main issue for SGPC is to try and keep Sikh classed as a minority in Panjab State so they can keep their reserved places in public institutions eg schools, unis, state parliament. How on earth these politicians can decided whether I am a Sikh or not, I just cannot understand??!!
  16. Cheers Canuck SIngh. Cleared up a few points for me.
  17. the war scenes were wiiiiccked in the original. they don't fight that these days! LOL
  18. swinging stick about to drum beats.....doesn't that remind you of something?????? I can unequivocally say: Gatka is Persian!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. When does the Path start and at what times during the day? In case I want to listen to it?
  20. that in itself is a law. Law of Nature. Read Brian Tracey books to see what these are. Laws do not have to be just wriiten in Statute books by politicians and lawyers. Nature has its own set of laws throughout the Universe.
