  1. at a conference on world religions i heard a student and friend of the dalai lamas explain theat there are 3 main roads in buddhism. the two fastest (including tibetan) are not atheist, but agnostic. they don't explicitly deny waheguroos existence, but instead believe in all sorts of lesser gods and goddesses. the slowest road uses only individual effort and can be regarding as athiestic b/c there is no need for a god on that road acccording to her. the other two roads require the kirpa of these gods/goddesses/enlightened beings for help. the third and fastest road, tibetan buddhism, absolutely requires a guru.
  2. giani Takhur Singh ji told me that if you have separate volumes of a tika in the same room, than consider that to to be sampooran Guru Granth Sahib ji and show the required satkar. even if the volumes are not touching.
  3. I'd view this one with skepticism, as it's from a Radhasoami website and those guys and their ''gooroos'' aren't known for their love of truth. if you want to know the true story of the future, listen to the kathas on gurmatveechar.com. Giani Takhur Singh ji has told me that Nikhlank Avtar is going to come and clean up all the gandh one day. so listen to the katha on the Avtar by baba hari singh. if you want to learn about kal jug, listen to giani takhur singhji's katha on the subject. i think it's called rehit pyare mujh ko, but i could be mistaken about the title. it's where kaljug has a discussion wiht his father and says what's going to happen in his raj, what will have prominance (Naam), and what will be useless (rituals).
  4. Ardaas Khalse Di Part 07 by Giani Takhur Singh ji addresses that topic. http://gurmatveechar.com/katha.php?k=gts
  5. I heard from Baba Takhur Singh ji that some historical Sikh figures were Singhs, but b/c there were more than one by the same name, they were referred to by a different (older) name in texts.
  6. There is a prophecy that when the final prophet comes the fourth and last door of the kaba in Mecca will open. It opened for Guru Nanak Dev Ji. I heard this in katha by bhai Jungbir Singh.
  7. Giani Takhur Singh ji once said that Dasam Bani and Amrit are the Panth's sources of power. Without these, the moguls would have finished us off.
  8. I remember reading about Singh Sabha international a long time ago. They are an organisation capitalising off of the good name of Singh Sabha in an effort to get people to lower their guards. They actually have a harmful and disturbing philosophy to spread, and want to see Sikhi changed.
  9. There are numerous ways to do this. But Sikhi is primarily a spiritual path. True, it is concerned with worldly things like justice (which is also a spiritual concept) etc. But it's primarily religous. My suggestion, understand the basics, then get Amrit shuk. Set a deadline beforehand, like in one year, or one month. You don't need to know a lot to get Amrit (the initiation/baptism). You just have to know that you won't commit a cardinal sin that needs you to get re-baptised. My suggestion, focus on keertan, prayer, simran, spend as much time as you can in good sangat (including the Gurdwara) and avoid bad, try to slowly learn the Punjabi language as it will greatly help you, and slowly start following more rehit, adding on more rehit as time goes on. b Focus on your jeevan (spiritual lifestyle/discipline) and Simran/Bani most as that will be of the greatest use to you, here, and hereafter. It will also help 'cushion' you against negative worldly things. and keep in touch...
  10. Fantastic. Although I would like to add that it is not Ek Omkar; but Ik ONkar. Omkar is very different from Onkar, See Baba Takhur Singh ji's Japji Viakhya on this site for more info.
  11. please post the katha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. "There is an easily accessible text on Tantra interviewing a modern era Aghori (Vimalanda) written by Robert E. Svoboda, entitled Kundalini Aghora parts I and II. " -could you provide a link for this please?
  13. "Guru Gobind Singh is even clearer: Those who call us the Supreme Lord (Paramesar) shall all fall in the realm of hell. Know me as his servant and do not think of any difference between me and Him. BN VI: 32 " Giani Takhur Singh ji, in his katha, said that this was a test of faith. Many times in Gurbani the Gurus are called God very directly by successors. It is crystal clear. It would make no sense that the Tenth Guru would then go and say this unless it was a test of faith.
  14. from stevepavlina.com 1) In the Summer of 1993, I wanted to try being vegetarian. I had no interest in making this a lifelong change, but I’d read a lot about the health benefits of vegetarianism, so I committed to it for 30 days just for the experience. I was already exercising regularly, seemed in decent health, and was not overweight (6?0?, 155 lbs), but my typical college diet included a lot of In-N-Out burgers. Going lacto-ovo vegetarian for 30 days was a lot easier than I expected — I can’t say it was hard at all, and I never felt deprived. Within a week I noticed an increase in my energy and concentration, and I felt more clear-headed. At the end of the 30 days, it was a no-brainer to stick with it. This change looked a lot harder than it really was. 2) In January 1997, I decided to try going from vegetarian to vegan. While lacto-ovo vegetarians can eat eggs and dairy, vegans don’t eat anything that comes from an animal. I was developing an interest in going vegan for life, but I didn’t think I could do it. How could I give up veggie-cheese omelettes? The diet seemed too restrictive to me — even fanatically so. But I was intensely curious to know what it was actually like. So once again I did a 30-day trial. At the time I figured I’d make it through the trial, but I honestly didn’t expect to continue beyond that. Well, I lost seven pounds in the first week, mostly from going to the bathroom as all the accumulated dairy mucus was cleansed from my bowels (now I know why cows need four stomachs to properly digest this stuff). I felt lousy the first couple days but then my energy surged. I also felt more clear-headed than ever, as if a “fog of brain” had been lifted; it felt like my brain had gotten a CPU and a RAM upgrade. However, the biggest change I noticed was in my endurance. I was living in Marina del Rey at the time and used to run along the beach near the Santa Monica Pier, and I noticed I wasn’t as tired after my usual 3-mile runs, so I started increasing them to 5 miles, 10 miles, and then eventually a marathon a few years later. In Tae Kwon Do, the extra endurance really gave a boost to my sparring skills as well. The accumulated benefits were so great that the foods I was giving up just didn’t seem so appealing anymore. So once again it was a no-brainer to continue after the first 30 days, and I’m still vegan today. What I didn’t expect was that after so long on this diet, the old animal product foods I used to eat just don’t seem like food anymore, so there’s no feeling of deprivation. these weren't spiritual benefits... but still are good reasons. As for me, I felt lighter after switching to vegetarianism. My body didn't feel as weighted down.
  15. Ardass can influence the Guru. When a child makes a benti to their parent, it can change the parents decided course of action. However, it is still up to the parent. Also, make sure you do your ardass with a focused mind and sharda(faith). Ardass is simply prayer, it comes from the heart and their is no script, hence no prerecorded audio. If you mean the panthic ardass (when everyone in the Gurdwara stands up to pray), then that is a more formalised ardass. You can probably find an audio of that on proudtobesikh.com. btw, the above answer is right, it is within Hukum, but you have misunderstood the concept.
  16. I recommend you read the Gallant Defender by AR Darshi. It very clearly and concisely gives the story leading up to and after 1984, including the Jathedar of the Akal Takhts role. Please don't rely on lies written by mass murderer KP Gill who brutalised Sikhs.
  17. Bad sangat is that which leads you away from the Guru. If these people make you uncomfortable about your religion, then it may be best for you to distance yourself from them. I did that with many of my friends, some i just cut off relations with totally (wanted to cut me off from sikhi); and others i slowly distanced myself from (b/c it was harder to be devoted to sikhi after hanging around them, although they are still good people who do respect my religious choice, their path is just going in a different direction then mine). Sounds like you're at the point in life of 2 roads diverging in wood, sounds like you're taking the path less trodden and consequently moving away from your friends, trust me - n the end it makes all the difference i!!
  18. do a search, its discussed in my previous posts.
  19. ACtually, in Kaljug, it is very difficult if not impossible for the majority of people to attain the highest spiritual level if they are celibate. This is b/c the mun secretly wants to satisfy its curiosity. Also, it is b/c in this age Kaljug is so strong that to deal with kaam a householder lifestyle is needed for most. But there are those who are strong enough to escape kaam, and they do not need a gristhi lifestyle, but can choose to live it. Also, note that living with family it is better spiritually to be in gristhi unless you live in a dera. This is b/c if you do kirt karna your time for simran will be limited compared to a sant/ascetic. japping naam with family means that you have sangat that helps you. Also, when you do kirt karna you are supporting yourself. Sants are oftentimes supported by donations from sangat. So they have to jap exta Naam to pay off all the seva of them that is being done. There are many advantages to gristhi jeevan, what's best is dependent on our own spirituality - for most it is grishti jeevan. It is not wrong to learn from other religions, but reading that brahmacharya book, i found that they see gristhi as a lowly second compared to complete celibacy - completely untrue and not in line with sikhi at all. bhul chuk maaf.
  20. The Guru has written that the Khalsa has either conquered, or is always in a state of rebelliion. We do not mindlessly conform to the ignorent ideals of a society that wants us to fit in just b/c they fear difference. It's fantastic that you stuck to your principles. Your are normal, you just think a little bit more. That kind of self-consciousness is normal for a girl your age. However, I recommend that you stay away from girly mags and messed up people who will reinforce the idea that you shoudl follow these foolish stereotypes. That will help deal with the self consciousness. Also, do Paath and simran, first thing in the morning. I would ask the Guru for Chardi kala (high spirits). Please post if you want more advice.
  21. keep in mind that Ik Oankar is never ever with an "m" sound, it is NOT Omkar. That is something completely different. To hear proper pronounciation just
  22. vijaydeep singh ji, these three gunas still affect us. to be above them we have to be at a higher avastha.
  23. There's no sin in wanting to do better. But it's easy to get caught up and forget why we're here. Just make sure you do your simran everyday without fail. It is not a sin to not be Amritdhari, however, you are missing out on a lot! To have a Guru, one must be Amritchuk. Also, to get to Sachkhand, one must have a True Guru. Additionally, the spiritual benefit Amritdhari's get from simran is greater than that of non-Amritdharis. I suggest you ask questions, get good sangat, and get Amritchuk. Even though you're not Amritdhari, you still get karma from eating meat. Meat is considered really rajsic/tamsic food, basically for this discussion it means that it makes it tougher to focus attention on simran. It would ease transition to being an amritdhari if you phase out the meat eating over time. Just go in front of the Guru and do ardass for help. I would always ask for Naam dhan and Sikhi dhan whenever I went in front of the Guru. btw, these are some good questions. not at all childish.
  24. The Guru is God Himself, He also is the one who guides us along this path, helps us and protects us. Without Amrit intiation, we do not have a Guru (from somewhere in Bhai Gurdass ji's Vaars). Btw, it is Ik Onkar, not 'omkar'. Om according to Giani Takhur Singh ji's Japji katha, refers to something much lower - the trinity of vishnu, shiva, brahma. Onkar refers to the one God alone. Omkar, in fact, is so low that I recall him saying that your phall will be less if you do jap of that mantr out loud. bhul chuk maaaf.
  25. does anybody have the english translation of sampooran rehraas sahib and chaupai sahib? (by sampooran i mean the Damdami Taksaal version).
