page scanned from giani gian singh's tvareekh guru khalsa. rough translation: "in 1661 bikram: guru arjan sahib ji sent bhai bano to lahore to have sri guru granth sahib ji bound. on the way bhai bano made another copy to which he added some shabads of guru nanak dev ji & other bhagats. he got both copies bound & presented both to guru arjan dev ji. guru ji named the second bir "kharri bir", but both were accepted & respected equally. guru ji also said that if bhai bano had not followed his own wishes, there would only have been one sri guru granth sahib ji. instead, now there will be granth sahibs in many houses, & people will gain mukhti by doing darshan."

cont... there's another element in the equation as well... that is the unwillingness of certain groups & organisations to condemn the actions / mindsets of these youths. there are 4 main reasons i can think of for this... 1. they actively encourage the youth to become mindless fanatics for their own purposes 2. they do not actively encourage the youth, but do not condemn them because they either use them to do their dirty work... or because they see the things they do as beneficial to their group. (speaking out against nihangs, going on protests, spreading khalistani literature etc) 3. they see them as the lesser of 2 evils. 4. they fear being targeted. so u need a three-pronged solution to the problems highlighted... to deal with those youths caught up in these groups, the ones who actively propogate the beliefs, & the organisations / groups which fail to speak out against them. ok i realise i haven't actually given a single suggestion on what can be done!... i'll think about it...

very good topic fatehsingh. one of the greatest things about the internet is the ease with which u can find ppl with a similar mindset as urself... this is also it's greatest danger. most of the youngsters u mention are just normal ppl who have developed a love for sikhi & then are peer-pressured, coaxed or sometimes threatened into following the fanatical views of some of their peers. i've seen it time & time again. they are encouraged to cast out logic & reason, & very often their new outlook on life brings them into conflict with their families... alienating them, driving them further into the fanatic fold. there's a huge parallel with cult mindsets & methods of conversion. then there are the instigators... those who present the outward roop of sikhs, but preach only hatred. they are adored by their chele... usually because of their charisma & (very limited) knowledge of bani. gotta go eat roti... will post more when i come back.

mods... please can we make this thread into a sticky... on the home page. in response to this blatant attack on sikhi, i have taken a vow not to do my amritvela or any paath / simran / anything related to sikhi until the evil enemies of the panth have been castrated. as such i have assembled a hit squad of chardi kale tyar-bar-tyar goodsikhs into the beadbi nuking police... aka BNP. our mission statement: "we, the BNP, will seek out & destroy all forms of maha-paapi-beadbi against the true* khalsa panth including, but not limited to, jokes (unless they are about uk ning-n@ngs or guys that like to wear pink), muslims, pictures of the gurus, people using bani for anti-panthic means, people using bani against us, dancing, bhangra music (unless used for simran by goodsikhs), people with nakli maryadas & anyone with more knowledge than us (knowledge is a paap). we will do this using the following methods (not necessarily in this order): 1. take a hukamnama to prove we are right 2. repeat step 1 if necessary 3. flood forums, email inboxes etc rallying the panth to take action, using relavent gurbani quotes from our resident granthi (sikhitothemax) 4. call the paap-filled paaapi pakandis & call them funny names... like dan singh 5. take a coach load of goodsikhs to paapi central & stand outside waving placards & continue calling them funny names 6. pat each other on the back & tell each other what chardi kala good sikhs we are. *nihangs, nirmalas, sgpc's, sewapanthies, sant-followers etc are all paapis & therefore not part of true khalsa panth." we have taken action against the beadbi noted above. we commend tsingh for bringing it to our attention. we have however been unable to call the manmuckys as our telephone is mysteriously lacking a % button. after a thorough investigation, the BNP, has undeniable proof that this was the work of the RSS... & the n@ngs... & muslims... & that sant from the gurdwara down the road. if u would like to join the BNP, come to our weekly simran session (bring ur own earbuds) after which we wander around outside cussing monas for being paapis... because that will inspire them to be goodsikhs like us. goodfateh! ps the BNP is NOT a joke!

i also remember it being referred to as chatka gatka... not sure why there was the change & whether both terms are interchangeable... but regarding dalli's post... 1. he still accepts that maryada. 2. true... & something he admits he changed his mind about after doing his research. what's wrong with that?
