  1. We have 13 lunar or moon months in the 365 day year., but we have made 12 calendar months. The full moon occurs just after 28 days. ...so sometimes we can have 2 full moons in one calendar month. July and August are popular because they both have 31 days (according to my knuckle counting technique!).....but that doesn't mean that it is always in these 2 months because 2 full moons can also occur on either side of February (since it has 28days)..so that Dec/jan and March/april are also popular. (this is what I remember from primary school, so I may need to check further but I think this is reason) They call this 2nd full moon a ''blue moon''......ever heard the saying "once in a blue moon"?
  2. It's because developed nations show results first and then get paid, ...whereas the Indians take the cash first and leave you hanging for results !
  3. You are correct,, I've changed my post-->got my wires crossed with macaulife and McLeod and I was thinking of the 'volumes'
  4. I think that rotating the twists would be reasonable but you want to use some strengthening or even softening(because there will be less torque then) products. I'm not sure if you have a "beardbrand store" there in UK.. but I came to hear of them from the ''sharktank' tv show..http://www.beardbrand.com/ I got to sample the 'tree ranger softener'....and I was impressed. worth a look and it is getting popular because of the full beard fashion we have here
  5. I'm not sure how Mcleod comes in as anti sikh I haven't read his volumes from cover to cover, but I was always under the impression that his contributions held value and helped point the way for later scholars..........not sure! Does anyone know of any specific details where he has manipulated or did he just get some wrong facts here and there...bearing in mind that he collected info from a variety of sources and tried to piece it together. my bad!! I got mixed up with macauliffe and McLeod....ddddhhhh
  6. Good points. There is no denying that the whole alignment of stars, planets ..constellations etc... can affect us, and in return WE can also affect it. Gurbani tells us that Gobind-master of the whole universe is Akal Purakh himself.. A single action of ours can have an affect on some object or entity in some galaxy, some thousands of light years away. To deny the science of astrology is ignorance. Let's just take palm reading....and the left hand is said to show what the person is born with and what is destined,..whereas the right hand shows what the person has become in relation to the seeds they have sown, new karams, deeds...etc... However, even though there is this pre-destiny written on the level of awareness of when they were born,, they can without doubt 'raise their awareness' with naam kamayee and thus constantly be changing their destiny as from what was initially written. This is how gurbani tells us, a gurmukh wipes his own lekh and karams and thus Gobind will keep updating them along with the constant order of the universe. Personally, I have witnessed and seen my own palm lines change in short time spans, Gurbani doesn't say that astrology is fake or anything, but it is all calculated with precision within principles of Cause & Effect. However,, the only astrologer that can know it all and be up to date with all the changes is Akal Purakh,..antarjami ...Gobind himself. So, the point is that getting an astrology reading will give you some idea of what may possibly happen according to your current level of awareness. ..But if you raise that awareness with naam kamayee, then you can also change/wipe any negatives that may have been destined initially. Gurmat tells us that we don't walk on to the stepping stones placed before us according to astrology, but we walk in hukam whilst gathering naam dhan and let Akal Purakh keep placing the newer stepping stones in front of us. We can get an astrological reading or some idea of where we are at and what may happen......... but to sit back and just take that for granted would be ignorance. ..instead we should work on raising consciousness so that changes can occur for future events to unfold with less universal negatives.
  7. ok....truth is..->there's not really a problem with him seeing an astrologer, but finding a ''good'' astrologer---> that is a problem.. Another member gave a clue about wasting money...suppose we're just trying to tell him in a roundabout way--> don't bother cuz we've all had experiences of being ripped off by them :) !! trying to save the kid a few $$........hehehe..
  8. people turn to astrologers, pandits and clairvoyants when they have no one else to turn to. A Sikh always turns to guruji and akal purakh. If god's superior temple the hari-mandar is within you,..then why go looking outside for answers? Ardas, hukamnaama and his kirpa is what you should count on....and kirpa doesn't come like no lottery or pure chance, as some wrongly claim-where only some get it and others don't.......you have to 'cultivate' and sow seeds of naam kamayee in order to be kirpa's candidate.
  9. oooh balle balle !!! :) come on kiddo....listen...this is like saying "you can go and pay a visit to whore and make enquiries -(gurmat)...but if you agree to become a client for her services then 'that's not gurmat' I'm not sure you understand that astrology is within ''limitations''...whereas gurmat and sikhi is outside of any boxes of confining dogmas or limits.
  10. there's plenty of software that can do the same!.... and that's what they mostly use nowadays. It should be free shouldn't it, our guest ?
  11. Yes it's a science, but do you understand how gurmat comes into this ?
  12. I too would say aloe vera & neem....Problem with jasmine/olive oils is that they can affect your skin by clogging sweat pores on your cheeks..this results in acne type/ redness/rosacea.... reactions. As for regaine/rogaine..it is a chemical that can sometimes work for male pattern balness on scalp..but it works best by preventing further hair loss more than replenishing. I would stick to the natural/ayuverdic applications and even try a little bit of that dabur Amla hair oil as well from apney stores.

  14. Good one ! One tip of advice is to make sure that you push through your heels for max benefit. I was doing it wrong for a while until my trainer instructed me.
  15. I get the feeling that 3hrs or 2.5hrs(dasvand) is used as a kind of bench mark because no matter how basic or skilled someone is in simran.....>Even if the beginner on foundation level allocates the dasvand time towards simran, he/she should get at least some moments/seconds/minutes of deep -single thought connection throughout a session. In effect, there should mostly be some moments of some real dhan kamayee, even if one was sat getting diverted into thoughts of work, bills, household chores..etc. for the most part. This message is important because I sense that a lot of us just give up and think ''Oh, I can't do simran,,, I can't ever settle,,,,, my life's too busy.... theres' way too much for me to sort out in my thought process,,,,etc,". see, my suggestion would be ..".keep trying..and keep making those few hours tor at least a crack at it" Again, this all boils down to strict self-discipline and goes along with another reason why Guruji bestows rehat.
  16. Thanks, I will try some of that... I use very similar techniques energy transfer for my own 'self-spiritual healing' quite often because I have multiple spinal injuries,.. and my left side is often quite troublesome. What you say makes perfect sense to me as long as someone has the patience and belief to persevere. It doesn't actually work that way because we lose huge amounts of fluid weight first, which is through sweat, water loss and energy burned from glycogen/fat stores...People often forget that all muscles and organs of body contain water. I have often weighed myself before and after 400+calorie workout....and I usually lose 2lb's+.. which is nearly 1kg (2.2lb=1kg) quite easily.
  17. I think that you wanna do stairs with own body weight. The dumbells will put extra pressure on joints and also -->spinal compression. This in turn leads to a lot of back and trapezius pains. In my opinion, in terms of body kinetics,.. using own body weight gives more control and flexibility and will be better for joints and cartilage issues of arthritis in later life. They normally recommend cardio, aerobics to get the fat burning along with attention to diet.
  18. Wow!! I gotta look into that stuff..............Chi..ki....prana....meridians....all the same thing>same energy. Give us some details or techniques used in visualising/imagining that are used. Ragmaala, once we get into 30's..we have to stretch...stretch...stretch. I don't think you are stretching enough...it sounds like 'compression'
  19. Some potent points with regards to internal sangat. Many gurbani tuks become much more powerful when directed towards the internal sangat, ..and the saadh guru within
  20. The answer is in the very good post above, Satkirin. lust does not mean sex, and sex does not mean that lust has to be involved either....I know this is difficult to comprehend for some of us,.. but we need to read more bani and do more bhagti to get to this level of understanding. The stories are about women because of the reasons mentioned in above post by Amardeep,....and I agree that most of us read it as stigma of men, where men fall weak to the power of the kaam dhoot...... Many many great kings, leaders and men have fallen victim to this according to history and scriptures all over the world. Sri guru granth sahib gets you looking through a window by clearing up the fog and mist so that you can see the Truth clearly by going from the darkness-->lightness, ..from the mist-->to clarity... whereas CP/dasam bani is like a mirror and shows you and your ego's reflection that itself masks and covers any clarity seen through a clear window. The idea is to work on our ego reflections such that the mirror ceases to exist and becomes the clear window instead, showing the truth in it's entire clarity.
  21. Sat,..my theory and understanding is that if you hear the naad,...then the kundalini is awake! Being awakened comes first,..then the 'rising'. (I could be wrong, ..but there are so many varying interpretations out there) Imagine the sukhmana like a pipe or tube like. ...Now, let's say that one cannot travel from one end of tube to the other because of blockages. constrictions, obstructions......basically not a full clear open airway. This is what the sukhmana is like and the prana cannot flow in full force. In the early stages, when the chakras make some clearing and aligning (which is all the different sounds we hear)..... the pathway becomes open and less obstructed. This is when Anhad naad is heard and the kundalini -(from the base at mooldhara) awakens, because it can see the clearance of sukhmana from just below navel and upwards......ie the pathway is more clear. But much more jap and cultivating has to be done in order for the kundalini to start rising. After anhad, one will eventually feel the rising from navel area and upwards. Like I said above, there are varying descriptions but what I have found is that kundalini,... the cosmic energy, the chi. the ki.. the holy spirit...the serpent fire...the Shakti... are all the same thing described by different faiths and schools... They all talk firstly about activating or awakening this kind of energy with whatever name they give it...and then to get it to move or rise. PS. I think I've experienced some of the rising activations from navel -->>anahat-->throat-->ajna... but they were much different to what he says!
  22. The video about the sounds above is real good, he's giving the right info about the anhad naad and how it goes central while trying to catch the more subtle and subtler sounds in steps. I've been using ear plugs lately because it's been real hot for the last month....and the ceiling fans have been going 24/7. It took a while to get comfortable and used to them but now I feel more relaxed with them and can just shut of the external noise in an instant. Funny thing is that on many occasions the internal naad gets so loud and clear that when I take them out it all quietens down!.....it's like the opposite effect in the sense that using them turns up the internal noise volume and dampens the external noise and it's more like just 'switching' from hearing internal/external noise--->>internal noise only.
  23. Not being a killjoy.....but his stuff in this vid seems quite scattered. Seriously guys,.... read..learn... but don't always jump in to buy it.....try experience yourself.>>Stick to gurmat and I personally wouldn't recommend you buy everything he says in the above video...................Maybe that's what he experienced and witnessed-doesn't mean that gurmat results will be the same.
  24. SIngh's reply in the video is excellent. We should have more Sikhs addressing issues in the same mannerisms and approaches.
