As per Gurmat, there is nothing wrong, if someone wants to break away from the Panth and form a separate group/cult. People should have freedom of religion. We cannot force people to follow Sikhism. The problem arises, when someone starts insulting other religions. These Nakli Nirankaris were insulting our Satgurus and were responsible for the murder of Sikhs.

Sikhs peacefully marched toward the procession reciting religious hymns. When they reached near the procession, they were stopped by one police officer and were asked for the reason for protesting. Sikhs calmly told him that they were there to stop the procession and not to cause any trouble. The police officer told Sikhs to wait there until he came back. He went away not to talk to anyone but to warn Narakdharis to prepare themselves to kill Sikhs. Without warning, Sikhs were fired upon. The Narakdharis threw bottles filled with sulfuric acid on Sikhs. Even police and security forces joined them to kill Sikhs. 13 Sikhs became martyr, including Bhai Fauja Singh and more than 80 Sikhs were wounded.

The word simran is derived from a sanskrit word.

One of the meanings of the word Simran is "Sochna" (thinking). Therefore, whenever one is thinking about Satguru jee, it will classified as Simran.
Therefore, one must not only consider the jaap of Gurmantar, as Simran. Whichever jaap one finds interesting or enticing, one must keep doing it. One can also switch for a change. Sometimes, that might help
If one is interested in doing jaap of Mool mantar, Gurmantar and Gurbani, all together, Maharaaj has offered us a complete package.
Do jaap of a shabad using sampat bidhi. In this case, one will be doing all the three jaaps together.
