They say Birth to seven years age, a child is running under the subconscious part of her or his mind. So I would say fill it up with good stuff. The other thing I read was that if a father goes to Church or temple there are higher chances that children will follow him. Mothers are great teachers but dad can have a huge impact too.  I spent first year of my life with my biji( nani ji) she's a religious lady and I think it was those few months that at the age of 19, my interest in spirituality and religion woke up, since there is no spiritual bone in my dad's side family.  Don't depend on parcharak to teach your kids the Value of being loving, kind, caring. You got this, we have faith in you . I read bhagat pooran singh ji's jeevani and watch how his mother taught him. One example was she told him to find stones from street and put it away so nobody gets hurt.

I agree. Children are so receptive to energy, and the energy in the household in general is very important in molding kids to be spiritually inclined. Ive noticed with my niece, she actually enjoys doing things like sitting with me when im doing paath, and she is more focused then me at times.. She is also quick to grab my tally counter and do her vaheguru jaap..lol. I feel children in general are already spiritual at a young age, they just loose it when their focus goes on tv and now ipads..lol
When the child is in the womb she/he remembers everything and is in 'connection' with nirankar, the older one gets the more difficult it becomes to guide them in terms of your input as connection becomes weaker.
@das.. Even if your pehra is not so strong as back in the day, just by playing gurbani in the house continuously changes the aura/energy in the house and this energy of gurbani is what your kids will be accustomed to. So growing up they will want to be connected to this energy as they are familiar to it.
I remember my mum and nani would always tell me to do certain path when i was younger but  i was more interested in going out with my mates, now i do exactly what they were telling me to do back in the day..lol. so i guess try your best and leave it up to maharaj...Good luck.

Well that's the most important thing. This is more important than "external material for kids" or parcharaks. You are the father! You need to be the role model, do the bhagti yourself and spend time with them, and project your spiritual energy and awareness out and into them.
I'll give two examples, one of my dad and one of myself.
    1. My dad did a lot of bhagti and he taught it to me. He would sit down and teach me how to meditate, how to read a gutka, how to do pooja, how to visit the gurudwara, and so on. And he did it himself all the time. Having that kind of presence had a huge effect on me, and it is the most important for a child. Its set the base for even when the child goes off-track, like I did.
The father teaches the child how to be virtuous.

    2. Now for the second example. While I was staying in India with my sister, I was meditating as much as possible. One day I was playing with my 2yr old nephew and we went to the gurudwara right after. So he wants to sit with mamaji, I began quietly meditating with him sitting in my lap the whole time. Some time passed after we returned, and he started playing. In his playing, he began to say the mantra that I was meditating on, all to my surprise. This mantra was known only to me, no one else.
What you do now will energetically effect your children later.

@GurpreetKaur I just found this quote from Macauliffe who wrote his The Sikh Religion some 100 years ago, He writes that there is loads of repetition in the Guru Granth Sahib and therefore he did'n translate all parts. He says this is common to religious scripture:
"It is intelligible that repetitions should be found in the sacred books of several religions, for the teachings of their prophets were orally addressed to crowds who clustered round them, and repetitions served to impress on the listeners the instruction accorded; but in a printed work, which the reader may peruse and reperuse at pleasure, repetition does not appear so necessary. Moreover, this work is intended for the European as well as for the Sikh student. It is apprehended that repetition would prove tedious, and deter several even conscientious readers from its perusal."

    An example of Anthriv Arths:
Uthanka - During Shromani Bhagat Baba Kabeer jee Maharaaj's time a "Kaal Chakar" occurred. A hunter shot a female deer (who was pregnant) and killed, both the deer and the baby. There was a snake nearby, who bit the hunter, but the hunter managed to kill it. The hunter died later. because of the bite. When the news of the hunter's demise reached his wife, she also died due to grief. She was also preganant. Therefore, in total 6 beings (4 males and 2 females) died.
When Bhagat jee heard this incident, he uttered the following verse:

    ਕਬੀਰ ਏਕ ਮਰੰਤੇ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਏ ਦੋਇ ਮਰੰਤਹ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
Kabeer, when one died, two were dead. When two died, four were dead.
    ਚਾਰਿ ਮਰੰਤਹ ਛਹ ਮੂਏ ਚਾਰਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੯੧॥
When four died, six were dead, four males and two females. ||91||

Now, let us look at the Anthirv Arths:
First Anthriv Arth -  Firstly, the sankalp (thought) to enjoy the products of this world ended, which caused the sankalp of enjoyment of items from Pataal (underneath Earth), such as like gold, silver, etc. to end. (Two Deaths) Due to these, the sankalp to enjoy the life of the next worlds ended (Heavens and Braham Lok). (Four Deaths) Further, due to these, both Slander (Ninda) and Praise (Ustat) were destroyed. (Six Deaths) In total, six things were eliminated from the body.
Second Anthriv Arth - Firstly, Raag (biased love) ended, which caused Duaash (Duality) to end. (Two Deaths) Due to these, both Sukh (Joy) and Dukh (sorrow) ended. (Four Deaths) Further, due to these, both Assa (Desires) and Tarishna (Excessive desires) ended. (Six Deaths) Again, in total, six things were eliminated from the body.
Third Anthriv Arth (different counting method) - Firstly, Ego was eliminated, which caused both Raag and Duash to end. (Two Deaths) Due to these, Kaam, Krodh, Lobh and Moh died. (Four Deaths) Further, due to these, 6 more deaths occurred - 5 Gyan Indriye (senses - sight, touch, hearing, etc) and Mann (Mind). (Six Deaths)

Daas is almost certain that Sri Charitropakhain Sahib jee also has Anthriv Arths.

The characters are repetitive but it's the subtle differences in the text that are revealing snippets of information to the reader. Take into consideration the background to the text. The King is about to execute his son. So the Wise Minister has to tell him without being confrontational about it, otherwise he could share the son's fate as well. So he is telling the stories with small vital pieces of info to get the King thinking.

I don't remember the term but just like human body have meridian points I think, earth has them too and I read many major sights are actually built on them to harness the energy. So, our major Gurughars are built on them too? Ley lines, now I remember lol.
Most of the ancient sights like Giza pyramid, stonehenge, tiwanaku are built on ley lines if I remember them correctly. I always thought maybe Harmandir sahib ji is built on those energy grids too but never found on Google lol
And crop circles are so fascinating too? Our Punjab never had single one of them :(

Supreme God lodged in  bodies, minds, intellects, is  a  flame  without smoke,  resplendence alone,  devoid  of  shadow.”  People who have  beheld this  Light,  have  given  testimony  in  various ways.  Some  say it  is  like  a flash  of  lightening  blinding one’s eyes.  Some describe it as  a  steady  golden  light like  that of the rising  sun.  Some say  it is  cool  like that of  the moon. Some say  it is  like a  star  twinkling  in  the space  of  one’s heart.  Some say  it is  a  flame without smoke.  Not only  the visions,  but also  the sounds  we hear  as  we approach  the Atman, are  described in  different  scriptures. “This  marvel  is the Master  of  past,  present  and  future.  He is  always  the same,  today  and  tomorrow.”  A  grand  immediacy  of Presence and  Wealth  which  can  be described only  as Omnipresence.
Some  mystics  say that  when  He  enters  this  body, it is  like an  elephant  entering  a  thatched  rut,  breaking  it into  pieces. The  body  cannot  bear  it. It  is  said that Ramakrishna Paramhamsa suffered  from his  final  illness  on account of  repeated  God-experience.  Everything in  regard to  God  is  a  marvel:  How to  meditate  on  Him,  how He comes, how  He  is,  how  we  behold  Him.

I see what you mean,,  My meaning is that it is wise to have pillow in such direction so that when lying down; the head is in line with earths electromagnetic field, which is itself pointing North. If you look at a diagram showing these fields, you might remember that a straight energy line runs from North to South in the field.. The idea is to be parallel in this field. As for facing the pillow or having your back to it, many people don't think it matters because you are still sitting straight with your own energy fields being paralle-l as you have to remember that the direction is upwards and straight.(remember it is 3-D and not as in 2 dimensional diagram)
I hope you can see what I mean as it's tricky to explain and I'm not very good at wording this kind of stuff!

    I do like this analysis.
Remember, how Singhs were not allowed to rape nor run after the enemy.  Especially, sexual contact with a turkani was a great sin to discourage Singhs from even thinking that way. Remember, Hari Singh Nalwa how he turned away a beautiful turkani by calling her mother. And a story of Singh who was caught by turks and forcibly had his kesh removed, but didnt commint the sexual act with turkani, hence he was still a Singh & maharaj hugged him.
These stories impart teachings to instill a high moral character.

Imagine a group of people sitting together in a study circle (in the darbaar or elsewhere). They are warriors aspiring to kingship. Their aim is to destroy the rulers and take over the lands. They read this charitar story. The charitar vichaar leads to a discussion amongst the warriors on whether a ruler can grab any female citizen he likes since he is the ruler and reigns supreme.... And the discussion continues. Obviosly the people in the study circle are gonna agree that it is unacceptable for the king to do so, - but what is important here is not that there is concensus amongst the warriors on this topic. What is important is that the warriors in the group have actually discussed this topic and done vichaar on it prior to them becomming the rulers! Vichaar done correctly leads to internalization.  What is internalized becomes action.

I dont disagree.  But this theory will take some time to become a real experience, for me.
But a Gurus grace is higher, he can make anything happen in an instant.
I am not enlightened yet, so cant make such big statements as of yet.
I am like a child holding the arm of Guru Nanak, asking Him to carry me across the Ocean to His Abode, thats all I can say for myself now. I have faith in Guru Nanak.

Sister, these Charitars have Anthriv arths, but we need a Gurmukh scholar to explain them. Gurparssad, will provide you an example from SSGGSJM, which will make it clear for you.
Even, on a superficial layer, this Charitar is unique. This Charitar involves a King (who is a brave person), unlike the previous Charitars, engaging in a despicable act with a Citizen. That lady was a subject of the King and he was suppose to treat her like a daughter, not have sex with her. A brave King blinded by lust.
    Other interesting points:
The Jatt blindly believing in his wife - because she mentions about a Brahmin? Brahmins were considered as Devtay (Demi-Gods) by the other castes. As stated by Ragmaala jee - black snake imagery, king fond of hunting, etc.

Valid point. There is loads of repition in Gurbani. A gora friend of mine was reading an english translation of Guru Granth Sahib and said it just kept going on and on about the same topics. In the Guru Granth Sahib there is repetition about naam - in charitropakhyan there is repition about kaam.
Im not sure if the reason for repetition is because of some sort of literary standard of indian poetry and story telling. In the Mahabharat and Chaubis avatar you also see loads of repetition.
In light of the discussion on earlier charitars there was an evolution with little details that creep in that distinguishes the one story from the rest. I was quite intrigued when one person pointed out that in one of the charitars it talks about the king being blinded and one eyed - ie. he looses his sense of justice.  I read this as a simple story about cheating being elevated to a discussion on how a king can get misguided and blinded in his duties of being a king that exercises justice, when he gets trapped in everyday household affairs. The two successive stories were almost similiar, apart from this one statement of the king being one eyed. Maybe there is something similiar in this story - a statement that takes the sakhi to a higher (political/social) level?
