  1. vah vah , superb very inspirational May I ask which part of the world you are residing ? ( you dont have to answer if you dont want to ?)
  2. Watched about 20 mins , this guy is obviously on an ego trip or on a conversion mission , and spreading wrong information about Sikhism. They call them selves preachers , if this guy believes in Christianity then teach it (period) , this guy has very little knowledge and his source for Sikhism needs to be questioned , obviously he is getting confused big time. Not even worth challenging this joker . He says sikhism preaches " god is beyond colour or form yet he is an elephant with 8 arms " ( never heard that one before) , obviously he is twisting the message or his source is wrong.
  3. one question , drinking cold water will it have similar outcome ?
  4. this cracked me up bro , very funny .. If you put yourself in the shoes of the average person /villagers , I think they would without a doubt fight for a better life , but due to lack of support, facilities , jobs they dont really have a voice. If they stand up and speak they are either put down, false allegations made against them , framed by the Police ,thrown and beaten up in jail hence they dont speak up( basically minorites are opressed). There sense of purpose is to put food on the table provide for their families. Now who wouldnt strive for a better life . The spiritual side , India/Punjab is the land of of Gurus an inspiration for us to visit and learn about our history and follow the path. 99% of the sikh population probably want to come to go abroad for a better opportunity/ life , like our parents who came to England in the 50's / 60's for a better life and to be honest do have a better life as a result of them going abroad, and when i go to the "pend" in punjab and speak to the youngsters , who struggle to find a job , if they do then they have to pay them x amount of rupees for them to get the job , regardless of their qualifications.
  5. I agree upto a point that the name Khalistan portrays a bad image maybe ekta-stan , sarbatland as a name . But more importantly my views re our homeland are :- 1. Who will be the leaders ? Are they willing to accept the role or will it be a last minute thing. 2. How will the jobs be generated ? 3. How will the economy grow ? 4. Most importantly how will the mindset of the people living there be changed ? i.e. without bribery, corruption or back stabbing which I think is distilled into their blood ( not their fault , but the fault of society ) 5. Will it be another 1947 , blood shed where sikhs residing in all parties of India ousted out ( go back to your homeland) and will they be willing to go back ? I also believe that we now can make a change , ( many jate bandis/ organisations) are working tirelessly in the background to educate , fight for justice , stand up for our rights etc... Its all about becoming one. Our foundation is already layed ( Harmandir Sahib , Akaal Takht) , we just need proper leaders with the Kohm backing them and any issues that arise , we approach the Akaal Takht and take their hukam . ( I know its an up hill and mammoth task , but constant pressure and education in current Punjab I feel is the key. Edicate the young and old to a high level not just in Sikhi but academia so we have our future Dr's, solicitors, builders etc.. who can feed back into the economy and generate jobs. Once they have a sense of purpose , something to build upon , who will want to leave Punjab ( hopefully no one ). Once the kohm realise and understand our History where we have come from , you never know with wahegurus Kirpa we might see some future potential leaders.
  6. Hello veer ji I have seen in my own family where one who is spirtually minded , following the sikhi path , whilst the others not at all interested take a turn ..... how It was from this one persons actions , actions such as reciting gurbani, following the teachings of the Gurus , doing seva, learning kirtan , getting up early and reciting Gurbani , helping others , being positive ... without him putting pressure on the other family members , with wahegurus kirpa they started to become intrigued in what he was doing , always happy , positive, polite, helpful ..... Slowly they started to sit with him , listen to him , learning .... and now today with wahegurus kirpa they are on the Sikhi Path. So veer ji , keep doing what you are doing the positive energy within you will attract your family , by your actions.
  7. I went to a wedding their once where bhai Ajit Singh did a little presentation , the positives were that the setup there is very good in terms of the darbar sahib , the screens, the young all knew what they need to do , like clock work , he basically does sikhi presentation with loud waheguru jaap. Seemed like a good character telling the sangat the purpose for our existance , what we should do based on the teachings for Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, the divaans are very long . The downside is that it can be quite forceful ( do this , do that , cant do this , cant do that ) , but i believe any simran / presentations should be done with piare/love , but each to their own devices . It probably works for many hence his divaans are packed out .

    A question

Is good to discuss and find out other peoples journeys , good for motivation but I think rather than answers one needs actions , i.e. what steps one needs to take whilst on the spiritual journey and enhance ones journey, this will be more beneficial and only the one taking actions will reap the rewards , and I believe each individuals journey will be unique

    A question

Good question very deep . I don't think you will ever find an answer to this question there will be further questions from the answers sort. But I believe we are here to make a connection with the almighty. That relationship is unique for every individual , no one else . So my experiences may be different than the next persons and so on , and its this relationship we need to make strong by meditating, seva , gurbani santhyia etc.. and when done from the heart one will experience wonders, things will start making sense , questions answered etc.. This relationship is the key and is between you and god only not you the neighbour and his cousin and god , just you and god no one can take that away, so you will know if you have a connection, or none at all, or getting one , or want to obtain one . I believe we must act on the Gurus word ( this i know is very hard to do, easier said than done ) We/I try to find answers first rather than doing , but if we do/act on the Gurus word( sri Guru Granth sahib Ji) then answers will be obtained by mere actions and wahegurus Kirpa and if one goes on the spiritual path , i believe Waheguru will guide us all the way through happy and tough times, it may noit be immediately apparent but when reflected upon after some one will realise the truth. Just my 2p's worth may be relevant/irrelevant.
  11. Veer Ji , I think you have answered your question yourself. If you want to help your father be there for your family and the course you want to do is local then go for that. Depends on the course you do and the end result will count as i believe the curriculum should be the same its just the facilities that are offered between colleges and universities that differ. You could go to a top uni and not get the grades but go to a normal one and get high grades , at the end the grades count.
  12. I would confront them . Then its out in the open , if its work related tell them to talk to you face to face . Go see the top Manager , there are rules and regulations that people should follow at a workplace. If its affecting your work , you are feeling intimidated , being picked on etc.. speak to your manager , HR department . If you are not in the wrong , after confrontation it will soon stop , dont brush it under the carpet.
  13. SikhKoj absolutely hit the nail on the head " Only they are pure, O Nanak within whose minds the Lord abides " Sadly these type of people causing havoc in Gurudawaras resulting in Police presence absolutely disgrace. Theres many of these events happening and posted on youtube , where sikhs boycott a katha , fights start . I personally believe the agenda is different , may be a personal grudge . I'm no katha vachak or claim to know Gurbani , in fact its the opposite but my 2 ps worth on this is that The Gurbani shabad pasted by SikhKoj sums it up , if a person has love for the almighty , true love one would automatically know within there inner selves , in terms of pure or not , are they genuine or not .
  14. Reading this post reminded me of this shabad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI31FibaB_E I think one will know , the importance of life when blessed with the almighties blessings. What is true and what is not , what is love and to whom you share it with . Whether you have worldly pleasures or not .... your mind, body and soul will be content not rushing around here and there
  15. Satkirin Kaur , Sikhi hasnt changed in the past 600 years or so , it teaches us equality for all men and women ,our gurus showed it . Its sad that when so called people are two faced , who take sikhi on board but dont actaully follow the Gurus teachings ( let me add thats not sikhi , thats the singh / singhni's choice , and with wahegurus kirpa , may be one day their thinking will change towards equality. So penji dont take it to heart , your posts are good and i've learnt a thing or two from them. You keep following and practicing what our Gurus teach , you will not convince everybody , its human nature , society plays a big role in equality and sadly thats governing the majority of us ... but again let me add thats not Sikhi, The thing that makes me mad , is that on one side many jathe bandis ( sikh council, sikh network, sikh federation etcc.) and fighting for our rights ( turban, kirpan etc..) and on the other hand the so called "sikhs who call them selves leaders " start fighting amongst themselves , take out kirpans , police enter the Gurudawara etc.. all this for power, and nothing happens to these people , and they roam around in the Gurudwara as if nothing happened, these type of people i think will actually put a big dent in sikhi and going in the right direction for the sikh articles of faith to be banned , and sooner or later ( hopefully not) someone will be seriously injured. SO hang in there , you wont change or convince everyone especially on the internet and especially not knowing who is behind the identity and their motives , so put your views across and leave it to that , if it starts getting personal then back out and dont comment further.
  16. I think this is a non issue , sitting on chairs or on the floor does it matter , i think not. One can be sitting on the floor and not have respect for Guru ji , one can be sitting on a chair and having utmost respect for Guru Ji and vice versa. I think we are moving away from actually what our guru is teaching us. Focus on one innerself , generate "piare" , do seva , meditate etc... When one starts to follow the path , you will automatically do what is necessary to show your utmost respect for Guru Ji. I sincerely believe the Sikhs are their own enemies , everyone has the right to do darshan of Guru ji regardless of their physically restrictions.
  17. Hi Who draws up the Gurudawaras constitution ? If all Gurudawaras in the UK are setup as charity status , are they all under the control of the charity commission ? As i got hold of one Gurudawara constitution , and some sections in their are "out of character" when running a gurudawara , for example for president and secretary, it states must be Keshdari and unshaven ( but not Amritdhari ) It states in one section that one must be from a particular caste before it can become a member ( this isnt right !!!!) Who can change the constitution ? It does not clearly state the role of president, secretary or treasurer , the qualifications , experience required for the position ? Does anyone know back in the Gurus times , if such a constitution was setup for all Gurudawaras to follow ? Thank you
  18. Let me add this is not Sikhi , In fact SIkhi has not changed at all since Sri Guru Nanaks period. These so called quote "Sikhs" are fighting their own personal agenda. Wheres the satkar group , should these guys not be laid on the floor and given a good bashing .
  19. Hi https://www.change.org/p/unesco-world-heritage-committee-delete-the-name-of-sri-harmandar-sahib-amritsar-sahib-from-the-world-heritage-nomination-list-sent-by-india-govt-in-2014?recruiter=280484746&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_page&utm_term=mob-xs-share_petition-no_msg All details are stated in the petition, but in summary for you: Indian Government very secretly applied to UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2014 (last year) for Sri Harmandir Sahib to be recognised as a World Heritage site for tourism. (It is a sacred place of worship open to all, not a place of tourism!). Unesco are due to meet in June 2015 to decide on this. If World Heritage status is granted then this will mean Indian Government will have full control over Harmandir Sahib. Sikhs will no longer be able to renovate or make any changes or even do Kar Seva of the sarovar, etc without permission from Indian Government. Longer term implications are massive in that Indian Government could impose any restrictions on entry (or even charge a entrance fee) or even restrict how many people can do ishnaan in the sarovar etc. Now that this has come to light, we need to act urgently to stop this, by petition and making sure we alert our fellow Sikhs and Gurdwara Committees. Spread the message and get people to sign the online petition and any petitions at Gurdwaras. The Sikh channels are already providing coverage on this issue:- -- --------------------------- Please sign this petition especially if you agree and share with your network of friends. We, the Sikh / All Communities need to act on this urgently so please support this petition and urge others to, without delay: thanks
  20. Based on the footage its very bad indeed , but my views on this is that 1. Both parties need to be present and questioned 2. These Singhs , if they have not done anything wrong , knock on Sri Harimandir Sahibs door , keep chasing the jatedar for an answer as 2 of the guys he knows , find out their background , get an independent investigation ( saying that , I dont see it happening as its India , theres no justice system in India , and if these Singhs start prodding further , may be threatened further ) 3. Taking Amrit is not a small thing , it takes oneself to be strong , have piare for Guru ji , and i dont agree with the sings handing over their kakars , they should become stronger , infact put their faith in Guru ji asking to help them stop such attrocites happening rather than giving up. I think its good video footage has been made , but the issue is how many people in India actually see it or are aware of it as i believe if they all get together and seek action for such atrocities will make it better for the wider community. But as mentioned before the downside is these Singhs could become worse off if they start prodding further , be falsely framed , beaten up , and who would know .
  21. Just saw this cant believe it , and I dont think the panj piare would sanction them to be beat like this , but i think it would be more beneficial if these guys who were beaten , called to harimandir sahib , 1. asked them , if they thought they did anything wrong 2. If no , then explained why it was wrong according to sikhi 3. Get them to do local seva 4. Get them to be educated 5. After x amount of months called back and tested as to what they have learnt 6. Monitor them for x amount of years Then if they still fail , and do beadbi then take them call them back . The point is no one is perfect , and we all make mistakes , educate the people who make mistakes as lot of people dont know whats right from wrong .
  22. Why the up roar ... wheres the sharda ... if one doesnt agree if another you just dont go around beating/slapping him . This kind of thing makes my blood boil , on one side you have sharda wala Sikhs trying to do the best for the Kohm , then you have this , doesnt paint a good picture . Regardless of who comes to the Gurudawara , speak to them with respect , piare it doesnt cost anything , its very easy to be abusive/rude .
  23. Regarding the sikhs , sikhnetwork group of professional individuals with over 1000 members have devised The Sikh Manifesto , the concerns / areas each party should be queried and asked what they will do for the sikhs , more details available on www.thesikhnetwork.com facebook thesikhnetwork The agenda is 1. More Effective representation in parliament 2. Separate Ethnic monitoring of sikhs 3/ Statutory code of practice on the 5 ks and sikh turban 4.Action against perpetrators of grooming and forced conversions 5.Network of state funded sikh ethos schools 6.Monument in London to highlight sikh sacrifices in the first world war 7.Pressure on France to stop discrimination against turban wearing sikhs 8.independent public inquiry into uk government actions in the lead up to and after the 1984 sikh genocide 9.Un-led inquiry into the 1984 sikh genocide 10.Application of Self determination to the sikhs More information should be available on the sikh network site as to each section listed above
  24. Further info from site :- UNESCO has sent their representative to Amritsar to assess the suitability of Sri Darbar Sahib to be included in the world heritage site list. The nomination for this recognition was made by SGPC under advice from a PR agency in Delhi and government officials. Little was discussed within SGPC and indeed very little within the Panth - the Sikh community as a whole. When rumours of the application surfaced last year, the Sikh Human Rights Group tried to get hold of a copy of the application. But SHRG faced resistance, it was only after a threat of court action and a representation to the late Gurcharan Singh Tohra, then the president of SGPC that a copy was made available. SHRG's first impressions of the report were relayed to Mr Tohra who was alarmed at the possible consequences of the application - he had not read, nor was he briefed about the final completed application. SHRG requested to put the matter before the Panth, but so far the new SGPC committee has failed to respond. Heritage status for Sri Darbar Sahib has significant benefits but it also has serious implications for its intended status that have not been debated in the Panth before submitting this application. In the event we have taken the liberty to put the matter to the Sikhs worldwide ourselves so that informed opinion can be made and views be communicated to the SGPC, the Indian State and UNESCO. Heritage status will put the Sri Darbar Sahib on the list of sites whose architecture will have to be preserved by the Indian government with the help of the international community, i.e. UNESCO. However there are important implications that arise as a result of fulfilling the criteria One of the responses implies that India 's jurisdiction and administration applies in Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The result could alter the sovereign status of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib irretrievably in the near future and will have involuntarily ended the controversy of the question 'whose jurisdiction runs at the Sri Akal Takht Sahib?' It is important to debate these issues before a major step such as compromising the sovereignty of Sri Akal Takht Sahib is taken. Please read the accompanying relevant material taken from the World Heritage Site documents. We request a public forum to be held on the subject
