    Are the samprdais sects?
And within these samprdais you would not been as amritdhari or sehajdhari but as a nirmala, or sewa panthi.
The term or status of sehajdhari has nothing to do with the samprdais.
Coming onto kes, sehajdharis were kesadhari, and i know that there is a line that says you shouldnt keep kes without takin pahul, but there are also historical sources that say the moghals forced hindus to shave themselves to distinguish them from the Sikhs.

The 2nd Sikh Research Conference is taking place at Warwick University on the 28th of June. Amongst the topics for discussion will be "Sikh manuscripts".
I know that Coventry is best avoided but maybe this would be a good opportunity to learn more about whats happening and what more could be done.
If you are interested book on their FB page.

If the point was to show us a fallacy in our reverence towards Guru Granth sahib then fair enough.

I would like to add that I do not beleive in Mohammad as a prophet or holy man. I was making that statement in jest but some think I was serious. I follow Guru JI when he says "Ram RaHIm Puran Quran...".

    Chatanga and Dalsingh:

I wondered about incidents of looting taking place amongst the 18th century Khalsa as well (sources mention this happening from the time of the early Khalsa all the way up to the late misl period). After having struggled with this for a long time (on a personal level - as Dalsingh says because sometimes we have a romantic view of the Khalsa so stuff like this do get to us) I came across an interesting man who told me that the looting DID indeed take place as mentioned in the writings. BUT it was not targeted against civilians in the villages. The looting was against the "tax collectors" and local authorities in the villages -  these taxes would under normal circumstances been transfered to either the Rajput or Mughal overlords . So when the Sikhs attacked the villages they were NOT attacking villagers but rather the local political structure of the areas, - vassalage, rulership etc.
By the early and later Khalsa looting the tax collectors, the Khalsa was challenging the political structure of the time -  it goes hand in hand with other Khalsa injunctionos of the time of either being rebels or rulers, not to acknowledge external judicial courts, not to obey external rulers or pay taxes etc.

This is the first time in weeks you have said anything useful on this forum. Women should be represented more in leadership positions, not only in religious but also political affairs. Jagir Kaur was the head of the SGPC recently and Kiran Deep Kaur is a life member of the SGPC working committee but it's still not enough. During the years of Bhai Amrik Singh's tenure as the head of the AISSF, there was a female wing of the AISSF headed by Bibi Upkar Kaur, the extremely talented wife of Bhai Harminder Singh Sandhu. Bibi Upkar Kaur also became shaheed in Op Bluestar.

During a recent update to our local gurdwaras constitution I argued successfully that the constitution should be amended to allow females to take up any committee position. I have also encouraged females to consider joining the future committee and hope that some do.
You have had your answers to these. It's not our fault if you cannot or will not understand them. It is a false statement to say that DT oppose this. If the Taksal had this kind of clout they would have reintroduced Raagmala and Sri Dasam Granth into Sri Akal Takht maryada by now. Not to mention the full reading of Sri Rehras Sahib.

Famous people world-wide became Buddhists because of it's philosophy based on Ahimsa. I don't know how this religion was bracketed as such. Changez Khan and the early Moghals were Buddhists I think before they adopted Islam.

Can i ask what difference it would make trying to date GurSobha? Sikh literature is extremely weak in the early 18th century so why not just go within a reasonable half century figure.
What would be more fascinating to read? A historical account from those times or a date?

chatanga1 got a reaction from Crystal in Reformist missionaries vs Puratan Traditionalist
I would go the other way with the missionaries in that they have very little knowledge of Gurbani and place no little or emphasis on spirituality. They are even against naam simran which is incredible. Nor do they see Guru Granth Sahib as a living Guru. It seems like their focus is to disrupt sikh practice, and coupled with a hindu-phobia they make themsleves look ignorant/boorish at times.

The traditionalists see Gurubani as living but I feel have an over emphasis on spirituality. The doctrine of Miri-Piri has become imbalanced and i meet some youths every now and again, who cannot do anything at local gurdwara because they don't do enough naam japna.

Radhaswamis have a huge following in Panjab esp in the Beas area. But the followers to my interaction with them have very poor knowledge of Gurmat.
The Neeldharis are a splinter from Namdharis, over the use of the colour blue. Neeldharis about 3 or 4 years ago have acknowledged overall Gurugaddi of Guru Granth Sahib. I met Thakur Dalip Singh when he came with my Ustad to local Gurdwara about 2 years ago. He then talked about Sikh unity and Gurmat parchar. Anyhows after he left I was left with the feeling that its only a matter of time before Namdhari Panth follows the Neeldhari Panth in acknowledging supremacy of Guru Granth Sahib and becoming closer to Guru Khalsa -Guru Granth Sahib.

chatanga1 got a reaction from SAadmin in Masand Story Is Been Used As Precedence For Panthic Policiing
Neo Bro, there have always been physical punishments in the history of the panth, from the killing of Chandu, to killings of Wazir Khan etc. Even during Guru Khalsa century people like Lakhpat were given horrible death because of their crimes.

But since 1960/70 there has been a change in punishment from the Panth, (although this may be more to do with the fact that now Sri Akal Takht under SGPC gives tankhah, whereas before it was Dal Panth that gave Tankhah). Punishment has gone from physical to more community-service type punishment where person is given sewa at gurdwara and small symbolic fine.

The precednt has been set by Sri Akal Takht Sahib and for the time being this is what we should use. Any punishments of this type have to come from high authority.

The Sikhs had been compa, ing about the masands for some time before Guru Ji took action, but even then it was the Guru who gave the order, the Sikhs did not burn masands by themselves. So these people who use masands as comparison have to understand that such orders can only come from higher authority, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and not from themselves.
