what is our stance on shaheedi ?? coz im getting quite different views and stances do we celebrate shaheedi as a part of our heritage and culture not moarning those that died but accepting thier qurbani for the panth.. Do we elevate the person who became a shaheed Do we claim anyone who dies and is percieved as a sikh and promoted as such in the media as a shaheed Do we hold candle light vigils and protests for remembrance of particular shaheeds and insist on holidays and statues in their name How much of these things should we do or do we do and which are influenced by social practices outside of sikhi .. as well as outside of punjabiat.. after all the main reason bhangra shouldnt be used to promote the shaheedi purb is due to it being a social practice of punjabis and not a sikh practice.. right? also what about the remixing of sound tracks to tell the stories of shaheedi but with a beat more commonly associated to the modern styles of rap r n b etc etc please discuss

Niranjana the thing you mentioned about baba budha ji from a convo with singhs in india the term baba was given to baba budha ji only after he had taught shashtervidya to Guru Hargobind maharaj and helped in creating the akaal sena. On naming the akaal sena after bhai budha he affectivly became their shastarvidya guru and hence got the title Baba. This also accurd with Baba Fateh singh ji sahebjada (whose shaheedi purb is soon akaaal) as he is attribted to having started the budhdal or having influenced their dress sense depending on who you ask he too is regarded as baba. So one could conclude that whoever played a major role in the formation of dal panth (budha dal nihang singh etc) was promoted to Baba and this promotion technique then became more common and was applied to anyone regarded as cool and great like sants jathedars etc

I'm guessing that its related to a major identity crisis, the need and desire for a purpose or cause after all with new revelations such as the accepted shaheedi of sant jarnail singh ji. it leaves those whose cause was to fight under sant ji alone needing something 2 make their new cause etc I respect those who have stopped maharaj being taken 2 pubs clubs etc but where do we draw the lline as mentioned above ! like the recent morcha on ek niwas at wolverhampton. on this note,, i must tell you all about the greatest of deputy jathedars Akali Baba Dyal Singh Patiala vale, who when asked about his relationship with nirmalas, began cursing and swearing using every swear in the known universe.. he explained how the nirmala panth was the off spring of british soilders and low caste women.. at this point I kinda crapped myself thinking he was gonna hit me for making him so angry.. but two seconds later.. and i mean literally two seconds.. his best friend and caretaker of the patiala shawnee walks in wearing all bhagva.. Its a real love hate relationship.. but that truelly cracked me up they are very close but Baba Ji hates nirmalas. his reasoning may also be due to the fact that in patiala there are alot of nirmalas ! and they own alot of land etc.. so their is the political disagreements too.. But my view of nirmalas,, from the ones I met .. Baba Sher Singh totally changed my life just by chatting to him once and by a phone call.. another nirmala has been an intresting experience.. and the third.. wrote a book which hes charging 5 damn quid for !! (only joking its worth it.. ) but hes really cool too.. But to be honest any man who wears pink earns respect in my book.. !!
