Kavi raaj Bhai Santokh Singh Ji refers to "Ik Nau Lakh", which can be taken two ways.
    One is that 1 + 9 = 10, so 10 lakh.
The second way is 1 and 9 gives 19 lakh. 10 lakh mughal fauj and 9 lakh pahari kings armies plus the many mercenaries, robbers, looters, plunderers and hit men types.
Either way, there was 10 lakh fauj.
Many maha purkh in their Kathy also verify this (Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji etc.).
For me, all this is proof enough and this is the truth.
Questioning this is the beginning of an already slippery slope, where we question all of the kauthaks of Guru Sahib Ji. Saavdhaan.

Even Doctors can misdiagnose and even scholars can be wrong. I'm not against going to Scholars but becoming solely reliant on them is a rather narrow approach. Guru HarKrishan Ji blessed an illiterate to the point a Scholar couldn't hold a candle to the depth he understood the Gita compared to him. If you think Scholars are infallible then be my guest. But Rather than asking others to present other scholars, counter the points with your own Gyan.

We must be vigilant (learn all kinds of rajniti) veer so people don't advantage of us and start taking over but at the same time our core action should be defined by gurmat advait sidhant.. we must ensure we don't loose our core gurmat advait sidhant values - eka dristi, sam dristhi, ikankar, ek jot, sarab jot/manas ki jaat sabhe ek painchanbo. I beleive there were lot more greater fanatic islamist threat during our Guru's time than its now which is mitigated by gov't services/intel etc. If our Guru's despite so many attrocities against our guru ghar by fanatic Islamist never gave up eka/sam dristhi - one universal light humantarian egalitarian vision for all people from all races, religion then we should and must also follow foot steps of our Guru's sahiban/ gurmat advait sidhant. This is difference between middle path (khalsa panth) neither right or left compare to other dharams during guru's time and current time who easily fall into hands of right or left/proxy war agenda

    In my humble opinion
These translations are wrong. Although my Punjabi is limited, I don't believe there is a word called 'darling' in Punjabi. What next? Honey? Sugar? 'Sweetums'? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even Google translate does not give the word 'Darling', when I tried translating the above verse. Punjabi culture is generally very conservative. Punjabis are not free with expressions of love between lovers like in the West.
Secondly, as per my understanding what is written in SGGS Ji is allegory or metaphors and not explicit. Whereas from what I've read on the stories from this site from Dasam Granth, they are explicit. Please educate yourselves on the difference. One are metaphos and the other are stories/tales. This thread is a poor attempt to find parallels between SGGS Ji and Dasam Granth.

Let’s not forget the fact that the Bani of Dasam Granth Sahib ji is an original source witness to the shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, whose kurbani allowed for the continual survival of Hindu dharm. This really irks many of those with a Hindu cultural imperialist agenda. Again and again we see Indian school textbooks disounting Maharaj’s shaheedi, stating lies about it. Some texts say that he was hung for instigating riots!! Dasam Granth flies in the face of their cultural superiority agenda.

OnPathToSikhi reacted to paapiman in There should be one year spiritual meditation/contemplation of Gur shabad, before one can take amrit.
One year is a very long time; we even don't know, if our next breath is going to come out or not.
Request to Sangat - Never ever discourage a person from taking amrit (even if you think, he might not be eligible for it), if he has made up his mind. There is a possibility that his mind might change later or he might even die, before a year ends. Do you want to be guilty of such a crime? What will you say (after death), when Satguru jee questions you - why did you cause the delay?
When one takes amrit, Satguru jee does guide that person. Being born in a Sikh family, is a clear indication that the body is ready for Khanday da amrit.
If you find a person, even slightly interested in taking amrit, use all your energy and knowledge to encourage him to take amrit. Pray to Satguru jee to give you the necessary strength needed.
Having said the above, if a Saint or Panj Pyaray themselves, tell a person to wait and prepare for it, then that instruction must be followed. Also, if a person is in a dilemma, then he should seek opinion of Saints or Panj Pyaray. Avoid asking ordinary people, including Amritdharis.

I feel as if Baba Ji were looking past the body of Ashutosh and having darshan of Divine, like Bhagat Namdev ji did from a dog. We do not know the spiritual state of Baba ji nor do we know the circumstances. I feel as if he was teaching ashutosh what Nimrata really is, he was teaching the Sikhi of Guru Nanak to Ashutosh.
or maybe this is abhyas of Baba ji to look for divine in any human being who call themselves Sant.
And we should all learn from Baba ji as well.  I choose this opinion to keep my mind in chardikala instead of delving into nindya.

Given his classical musical background, his actions are possibly understandable. I would say people who are posting these videos need to be questioned as well. Tell them to quote all the Gurbani that Bhai Balbir Singh Ji is quoting constantly in the video. The complete arth of the Gurbani.
When he bows to Ashutosh, Ashutosh is seen scratching his head. How come no one saw this?

Is Sri Rama Chandra & Rama as the name of God the same ?
    My answer, they are different.
    1) Bhagat Prehlaad was in Sat Yuga, one yuga before the treta yuga of Sri Rama Chandra Jee.  Bhagat Prehlaad ji chanted the name of God, Raam even before the actual treta yuga Sri Ram Chandra jee
    ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਪਠਾਏ ਪੜਨ ਸਾਲ ॥ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾ ਬਹੁ ਲੀਏ ਬਾਲ ॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਵਸਿ ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ॥ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਨਹੀ ਛੋਡਉ ਰੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥ ਮੇਰੋ ਅਉਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸੰਡੈ ਮਰਕੈ ਕਹਿਓ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਬੇਗਿ ਧਾਇ ॥ ਤੂ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਨ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੁ ਬਾਨਿ ॥ ਤੁਝੁ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਛਡਾਊ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੨॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਸਤਾਵਹੁ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਪਹਾਰ ॥ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਗਾਰਿ ॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਘਾਲਿ ਜਾਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ ਕਾਢਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਕੋਪਿਓ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥ ਤੁਝ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਤਾਇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਥੰਭ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਕੈ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ ਹਰਨਾਖਸੁ ਛੇਦਿਓ ਨਖ ਬਿਦਾਰ ॥੪॥ ਓਇ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇਵਾਧਿ ਦੇਵ ॥ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤਿ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਭੇਵ ॥ ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ॥੫॥੪॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 1194}
So if Ram refers to Sri Ramchandra jee, how come Bhagat Ji is chanting Ramachandras name. Instead he is chanting Rama, & Gopal . These refer to names of God, not Sri Rama Chandra jee.  Thus, Rama & Sri Ramachandra jee are different.

First of all, Guru Nanak did not have sex, nor did any of the gurus. They were above the basic urges. They did not need the physical act to procreate. So there goes your analogy out of the window. Thus, Guru Nanak is higher than everybody else.
Guru Nanak did not eat either . He went without food for many days. Baba Harnam Singh  Rampur did an experiement where he survived on naam only without any water or food. His personal interview. So there goes you analogy B out of the window for me again.
Crying is a weakness when you are crying in separation of a worldly person, because you are showing attachment. Attachment/Moh is one of the vices that a Sikh has to let go or a brahmgyani controls.
Crying in love for God or separation from God or a Guru Murshid is acceptable. Those tears wash away your sins and cleanse your mind. I have provided your examples from Guru Granth Sahib where person cries in vairag or dispassion . That is acceptable.
When you cry in grief, from separation, that means you are still attached to that person, you are feeling that void.  But to say Guru cried in grief, I do not believe that.

Bhagat, it is a matter of different perceptions & your minds interpretations.
You view Guru as having gone through the grief process. I do not.
Guru Ji knew about all the events that were going to happen with sahibzade. When Mata Ajeet Kaur Ji saw all these events in Samadhi, she asked permission from Guru Ji to leave her body before these events happened. You think Guru ji would be surprised & gone through the grief process after knowing about all the events beforehand.
Bhagat, you are attributing human qualities of unknowing & sadness & grief to Gurus life. This might work for some people. But I hold my Guru away from unknowing, surprise, & emotions of grief.
ps. And btw Guru Nanak didn't have sex to produce children, ...again it is a matter of devotion. Some people view Guru as a normal human , and others view Guru as Nirankar.
I choose to view Guru as both in Nirgun & Sargun form, immersed in everything like Brahm, but at the same time enacting a drama to teach people, but in reality being away from all the drama as well.
Whatever helps with your spiritual path. What helps me in spirituality is holding my Guru as Nirankar, separate from drama, but enacting drama also for the sake of teaching.

Bro, Satguru jee was above grief or sorrow. He was not a human like us. Satguru jee already knew that the human guru lineage was to end. In fact, third master had already showed Mata Bhanee jee, all the future events. Satguru jee is all-knowing.
People, who are themselves affected by sorrow or grief, might think of Satguru jee according to their state of mind. Plenty depends upon a person's drishtee. For example, a happy person might perceive a grief-stricken person, as being happy

OnPathToSikhi reacted to paapiman in Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev jee is greater than Vishnu jee/Shiv jee/Other Deities
The following was explain by tenth master himself. Satguru jee proved to the sangat that Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Rai Dev Bedi jee Maharaaj is greater than Sri Raam Chandar jee and Sri Krishan jee.
Note: Daas has condensed the information. The website can be accessed for more information, if anyone is interested. It is a long read but it has great information.
Firstly, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Rai Bedi jee Maharaaj is a Pooran Tam Avtaar, while Sri Raam Chandar jee and Sri Krishan jee are Pooran Avtaars. Pooran Tam Avtaar is greater then Pooran Avtaar. Please see below:
    Quote
6.) Pooran Tam Avtar- This is the highest Avtar. This was Guru Nanak Dev Ji. All avtars are made of satogun but according to Gurmat the early avtars were created out of maya, and hence caught up in it. Guru Nanak Dev Ji however was a 100% mirror reflection of God, and hence he was not hampered by the obstacles which hampered the earlier avtars.
    Unquote [1]
Next, Maharaaj uses five criteria and proves that Satguru jee is the greatest.
    Quote
1.) Shakti- Shakti is power. Ram Chandar displayed his power from an early age. When his mother went to worship an idol of her goddess. He moved the idol and took it’s place. Krishna too showed his powers to his mother, Devki. Knowing he used to have a tendency to eat dirt she forced him to open his mouth, and through it she saw the entire cosmos.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji however did not give into the temptations of demonstrating his shakti. He even instructed his Sikhs to not give into the temptations of showing of these powers. When he was born, at the ambrosial hour (Amritvela) all the demi-gods came to worship him. They seated him on a throne and bowed down to him. They rubbed sandalwood into his skin and adorned him in various ways, all to show their devotion. They even did an ardass in front of him. That along with being the protector of humanity he should also remember the demi-gods.
Mata Tripta Ji, Guru sahib’s mother awoke while the demi-gods were midway through their prayers. The demi-gods on seeing her vanished. At first Mata Ji thought she had been dreaming. But then she saw her child adorned like a prince. She came close to him. It was then, to prevent her from finding out about his powes and to conceal them Guru Nanak Dev Ji started crying, and seeing her child in distress she easily let the curtain of forgetfulness be drawn over her mind. Guru Sahib eschewed demonstration of powers and placed emphasis on bhagti. It is only the result of Bhagti one gets powers but these should not be accepted as being a sign, that Bhagti is complete. There is even more bhagti left to do afterwards.
2.) Viaktee- Viaktee is the form of being. The physical form. A glaring difference between Guru Nanak Dev Ji (Pooran Tam Avtar) and Ram Chandar/Krishna (Pooran Avtar) is their facial features. Guru Nanak Dev Ji grew a very beautiful and long beard whereas the Pooran avtars had none. Gurmat says that one of the biggest reasons for an individual’s desire to cut kesh is physical pleasures. The Pooran Avtars did not have any facial hair.
When Ram Chandar left Ayodhya to marry Sita in Janakpuri, all the royal maidens were entranced by his beauty. On seeing this he told them that he will satisfy their desires in the Dwaper Yug. In the Dwaper Yug Krishna’s viaktee was one of lust. The maidens became the gopis and hence Ram Chandar satisfied their lust.
Above is a mural depicting how Krishna stole the gopi’s clothing and hid with them, in order to watch the nude maidens.
Ram Chandar and Krishna both kept youthful forms and as a result were not able to eradicate the cardinal sin of lust. Guru maharaj however let his body age as per Waheguru’s hukam and did not seek any physical pleasures.
3.) Pragya- Pragya is the name of a person’s knowledge of God. Ram Chandar had two masters in his life. Rishi Vashist. He spent 68 days with him in order to gain an understanding of creation. This is found in Vashist purana.
(We will be putting up excerpts from this purana very soon).
Ram Chandar then spent 8 days with Rishi Vishwamitar in order to learn Shastarvidya, the science of weapons.
Ram Chandar and brother Lakshman do seva of Vishwamitar.
Krishna’s spiritual master was Rishi Darbasha, who taught him the knowledge of God in 8 days, whereas his martial master was Rishi Sandeepan who taught him Shastarvidya in 64 days.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji however was born learned from the start. He did not need any Guru or teacher at all. His Guru was the shabad and he was above the teachings of the vedant, upanishads and qoran etc. When his parents sent him to Pandit Gopal Panday in order to learn maharaj taught Panday the essence of Waheguru and creation. On the third day Pandit Ji told maharaj’s parent that he (Guru Nanak) was the creator of all knowledge and there was nothing he could teach him.
Baba Kalu then took maharaj to Mulla Noor Deen, however the Guru gave an exalting discourse to the Mulla which changed his life. The other avtars adopted masters, but maharaj adopted no one as a master instead masters adopted him as a master.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji at school with Mulla Noor Deen, his father and other students.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji never had to use any weapons, his shastar was the shabad. However he still taught Shastarvidya to Baba Buda Ji, the shastarvidya given to him in sachkhand which was returned to him in his sixth form. No avtar in terms of Shakti, Pragya and Viakat can even come an inch close to Guru Sahib.
4.) Kartab- Kartab is the showing of one’s skills. In Treta-yug the age of Ram Chandar was 10,000 years! During this time Ram Chandar only showed his kartab in the 14 years he spent in exile. After 14 years of exile he went back to Ayodhya and made a promise, that under him no parent will lose their child. It was then that a Brahman came to him and asked him to resurrect his son or otherwise accept the title of a liar. Ram Chandar asked the Brahman how his son died, the Brahman replied that a shudra (dalit) was reading the scriptures and praising God thats why. Ram Chandar went to the residence of the Dalit, Shambuk and resurrected the Brahman’s son by cutting of Shambuk’s head and killing him. This account is found in both the Dasam Granth and the Balmiki Ramayan.
By accident Ram Chandar fought against his sons Love and Kush. His sons injured or killed his entire army including Ram Chandar. Only due to the goodness of Sita he was brought back to life. Still Ram Chandar passed the reign of the kingdom over to his two sons. This was due to his attachment with his family.
Krishna after killing Kans he placed his maternal grandfather named Ugarsain on the throne to rule the kingdom. This showed his attachment to his family.
However Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji for the first 28 years stayed in the city of Sultanpur and worked in the granary. After doing this they went into the Beas River and went to heaven there. Here they adopted God as their only spiritual master. They were given the root incantation here and following which saved all of humanity with the knowledge of the Lord. They travelled far and wide doing this. They did not speak of any other demi god or prophet other then God.
Guru maharaj and Salis Rai Jeweller, a devotee maharaj met on his journeys in India.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji did not show any attachment to their sons but showed may feats of skill. Instead of installing one of their sons in their position they appointed one of their disciples.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji met many evil kings such as Devloot, Lajvarad and Babur. Rather then killing them they gave them knowledge in order to make them understand the message of God and to help humanity.
The demon Kauda, the thieves Bhumai and Sajjan were made to repent what they were doing and became saints. They made all the evil people good with the teachings they imparted. They saw no difference between social class, gender, age, etc and imparted the same message to all the people of the world.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in order to avoid many troubles showed much skill.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji did not show any less skill then any other incarnation. They actually showed greater skill then all others.
5.) Aayoo, or acts performed for the good of others.
Ram Chandar lived for 10,000 years. Due to listening to the Brahmans they killed a person of a low caste. They also handed the reign of the land to his two sons.
Krishna lived for 1,000 years. He believed Jadva to be an egotistical person due to this he got Rishi Darbasha to curse him so that he would die.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a king and a saint at the same time. In order to bring any other being back to life they never killed another. By bringing that person back to life they would give them the name of God so that they could save and bring back to life many other people.
This is the same with the 3rd, 5th, 9th and 10th Sikh Gurus. The third Guru, Sri Guru Amar Das Ji whilst the spiritual master of the Sikhs for 22 years no one died in the village of Gobindwal. No matter if old or young no one died during the 22 years that Sri Guru Amar Das Ji was in the city of Gobindwal. No one was ill as well. This showed that the Guru’s of the Sikhs were greater then that of the incarnations.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji lived for 70 years and during that time travelled more then Ram Chandar and Krishna did. Ram Chandar and Krishna never travelled further then Indian and Sri Lanka. Guru Nanak Dev Ji went to Kashmir, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Tibet, Sikam, Burma, Africa, Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Russia. They travelled to these countries and more all by foot. In the ballads written by Bhai Gurdas Ji it states the Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji actually travelled the whole world and met all the people of all nations. Guru Nanak Dev Ji saved that many souls that they cannot all be accounted for.
In such a small life Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji helped an infinite number of people. They got the root incantation from heaven and spread it through the seven lands of India and all of the continents throughout the world. They taught all the people to meditate on the name of the one true Lord. They started the faith of Sikhism. They created the true congregation. They made other people meditate on the Lord.

The above clearly proves that Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Rai Dev Bedi jee Maharaaj is the greatest.

Avatarvaad is not based on some competition on who is the greatest. Each avatar comes with a specific purpose and mission according to the context they manifest in. Krishna was pooran according to the context he manifested in and the Sri Satguru was pooran according to the context they manifested in. I find this "my Guru is greater than your Guru" business a bit too childish.

Before reading Guru Granth Sahib ji, we must keep the following instruction in our minds:
Thus, even though Mahapurakhs like Bhagat Namdev Ji is addressing a single person, it is our duty as Gurmukhs to learn from it.

In the above Shabad, Guru Nanak Dev Ji says,  Sri Ram is feeling sorrow, is in despair due to separation from Sita as well as unconsciousness of Lakshman.

Guru Nanak dev ji gave the example of Sri Rama under the category of people who cried because of suffering or sorrow. Thus, from the above examples in Guru Granth Sahib that I have provided, it is clear in my mind that the crying of Sri Rama was in context of separation from Sita Ji & Sri Lakhsman. He felt the emotions of sufferin, pain, sorrow , attachment and thus cried. Whereas the Brahm is Sat Chit Ananda, no fluctuation of emotions neither any pain of separation from a loved one.
Except for the relation between Guru & Disciple,  which is different from worldly relations, can any one say that Guru Ji cried when their brother or wife was separated from them ?

My final thought , as per my current understanding :
Sri Rama Chandra Jee was a pooran avtar in His age, but not equal to Guru Nanak who is Pure Brahm Pure Bliss without fluctuation in emotions or feeling sorrow .
