It is possible that the ringing sound might be the start of hearing Sehaj Dhun for some people.
One must talk to a Gurmukh Mahapurakh and discuss the ringing (or any other) sounds with him.

You're not getting my point - maybe perceiving this as defaming in itself is a new post-annexation influenced conceptualisation/way of thinking. That's why a lot of these texts mention these things with no self-consciousness like that.
I don't think they saw these naturally occurring plants around them remotely like conservative people do today. I think they (because of a millennia of being around them) understood their usefulness and dangers, use and abuse, strengths and weaknesses.
That all said, Moorakh sister, I think I get where you're coming from. Bani, naam simran is the most powerful tool for healing and development - I fully agree. And on top of that, all of the rampant fudhus in Panjab full on on the chittah is disturbing to me too. But although I understand that these people may well use old texts to justify recreational use, I think that they would have done it anyway, regardless of texts. Addiction to me is as much about personality, as substances. And I don't think we should have that fearful, anti-intellectual culture of hiding old texts. We need to be aware of the contents and understand them in context.

I think it was the opposite way on this topic. Goray, actually are the ones who framed things to distance Sikhs from their heritage and make them more compliant and docile. They never understood Sikh uses of natural pharmacopeia as these phyto-compounds were relatively new to them. Because of their simplistic, dualistic abrahamic conditioning they also couldn't get their heads around the place of Dasam Granth in Sikh life and made people doubt it as somehow 'Hindoo' and full of 'erotic tales' and other silly surface level, simpleton thinking.

    I don't remember any.
Plus knowing how Panjabis drink, I don't think Guru ji would encourage them. That stuff is different to plant based compounds with potential medicinal uses.
You put some alcohol into most pendus and it quickly transforms them into obnoxious mahu-fudhus (if they weren't like that to begin with). You must have seen this? There's older relatives I've avoided for years because of this characteristic.

But, it is also very easy to talk like a Brahamgyani, but very hard to walk the talk.

    Of course you won't.
Then you'd have to answer difficult questions outside of lalaland.
Like why are so many respected shaheeds in the panth (Sukha Singh, Mehtab Singh, Baba Gurbaksh Singh) shown to have had shaheedi degh in respectable Sikh histories like Bhangu's Panth Prakash? I think Bhangu knew a lot more than you about what happened in his grandfather's time.
Plus why would he defame his own grandfather (Mehtab Singh)?     Maybe it's you who is disrespectful because you're projecting your 'modren' personal judgment on shaheeds?

@paapiman Do you believe that ringing sound can also be in the beginning stages of  hearing Sehaj Dhun or do you believe that all ringing is medical problem? Just trying to clarify what you mean.
Ringing when accompanied with other symptoms like nausea, dizziness, loss of hearing & balance , and vision problems can definitely be a sign of medical problem.
But ringing alone without any medical symptoms needs to be explored internally.

In the early 2000s and 90s in America especially the Taksali singhs exclusively used water from freshwater streams and well water, even today I think they don't use tap water (in terms of the Taksali amrit sanchar jathas)

Even just doing a lot of meditation with a firearm, both eyes open, until you get used to aligning with the weapon and seeing the ghosting on the sights from both eyes being open is an enjoyable and very beneficial practice.
Cheapest 30 30 or 30.06 will do. Even if a gun was broken and therefore cheapest it's really nice to aim with a full weight rifle.

Can I ask, if a person is say depressed, and uses say sukha to help them get out of that frame of mind. Are they indulging in nasha or is it medicine?
Because I know people back home have used cannabis leaf in pakoras for exactly this. It's hard to define the difference between medical use and recreational use the way you are saying.
Goray mentioned hardcore Sikh soldiers going on really tough, long marches, and then having a 'draught' of bhang before going to sleep in the evenings. Was this recreational use, or was it a way to reduce inflammation, anxiety and even get a sound sleep after all of the days activities? What do you think?

Understand all the names of the Gun, don't doubt this even in the slightest.

    - Dasam Guru Granth Sahib, Shastarnamala

Here Guru Gobind Singh names the Gun as the 'King-Army Churner', analogizing the long wood shape of a churner [madani] to the long barrel of a gun - both churning, taking two substances and extracting their essence. The Churner extracts butter from milk, and a Gun extracts blood from the King's Army.

    ਜਗਤੀਸਣੀ = ਜਗਤ (World) ਈਸ (Rulers/Kings) ਣੀ (Army of)
    ਮਥਣੀ = Churner
