Death - its a simple question!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was sitting down and a gurmukh pyara rang me and said Bha ji,

"Does anyone on this earth realise they are going to die?"

On the surface it seemed like a very simple question, and the simple answer is that everyone knows they are going to die.

But this answer doesnt answer the question -

Has anyone actually realised death?

We walk around oblivious of death. We have the knowledge yet not the realisation of the knowledge.

We focus on jatha politics, maryada issues, what style dastaar should be worn - yet have we forget the one thing which we are meant To remember - Akaaal!

When Guru Nanak Jio asked Bhai Bala Sahib how far death was Bala Ji said, "I have seen the sun rise today - I may not see the sunrise of tommorow."

Guru ji said ,"You believe death to be so far away," and then turned to mardana, "What about you Mardana Ji?"

"I have seen the dawn today - I may not live to see the dusk." said Bhai Sahib.

Guru Baba Ji said, "You both believe death is too far away... We are Aadmee (panjabi word for human beings) - which means that if the damm (breath) aunda (comes) then we are alive. Basically we are only alive for one breath, nobody knows if the next breath will come... Maharaaj Jio said...

WAKE UP PEOPLE! STOP FIGHTING IN PETTY JATHA FIGHTS. PETTY SQUABLES ON MARYADA! WAHEGURU!

REALISE THE FACT THAT LIFE IS TOO SHORT!

If we have these precious few days on the earth together lets spread some love and peace - otherwise it will all be in vain!

Don't live each day like its ure last - live each BREATH like it is your last!

WE ARE GOING TO DIE PEOPLE - SOME SOON SOME LATER - WAKE UP!

SPREAD LOVE, PEACE AND HARMONY. DON'T BURN INSIDE WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN SOMETHING SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO YOU!

WE HAVEN'T GOT ENOUGH TO BE WASTED IN HATRED!

WE JUST HAVEN'T!

Peace out!

tandori lemon chicken.. :D we all need abit of tandori lemon chicken in our lives..

Death man you want the answer to that, well my interpretation of an answer.

Every human being is aware of his or her own death, thats why we have a need to do this cr-ap we do everyday. As a means to either spread our seed and procreate (our natural instincts), or because of the general development of society into a more philosophical existence, we attempt to clarify and justify, that what we know and believe is the most correct, even the live and let live concept of modern multi cultural diverse community is basically an implication of let me believe I am right so that I have accomplished something of value (realised ones inner truth or whatever) before I depart from this existance.

The fact we attach meaning to every part of our existance from our belongings to the space we occupy while walking down a street is proof that we are attempting to provide ourselves with a value, knowing that inevitably we will cease to exist (death) and hence try to make a mark before departing..

I recall meetin a Sadhu who lived in a cemetary in Mumbai. When asking him why he lived the way he did, he replied:

"Friend, when I awake, I think of death. In my daily routine, death surrounds me, when I sleep, I sleep with death on my mind. I eat what Bhairav gives. I remain in the know that I am always aware of [and never forget] the ultimate reality [Mahakaal]"

This is amazing... Also if you were to look for commanility between loads of Sikh Mahatama's we had is that - they were all in Army/Regiment because due to nature of job...you happen to remember death every second.

i'm pretty sure if all of us lived in a cemetary, we'd remember death. the real challenge is to live a normal existence and never forget the simple message of this thread and your story.

of course, one could argue that the world is a cemetary and we are the dead. what will it take to waken us and bring us to life?

ou... depressing thought...

I disagree that people consciously think of death and thats why they do what they do.

They do what they do to forget death not remember it (or at the very least to prolongue life at an unconsciuous level).

If I sat down and thought 'I may die any second and lose this very consciousness along with my mum and these lovelly leather shoes I'm wearing' I doubt that'd lead logically to 'Then I'd better get a mortgage and a crap job and fill my mind with irrelevant mush all day' although in a strangley zen way that maybe exactly what we should do!
