    Important point to make:
What we learn from Bhangu is that prior to Singh Sabha (who I believe learnt to lie from the British when it came to history), native Sikh historiography as represented by Panth Prakash was infinitely more honest and open about the past.
I prefer the original warts and all style of original Sikh historiography over the white-washed, propaganda style learnt from white-man.

the wedding resembles a battle taking place. Traditionally, the groom would arrive on a horse with sword with his army (baraat) and win the girl from her parents. The father would signify his giving/surrendering  his daughter by tying her palla to the groom. The groom would lead her around the parikarma of fire to show his commitment to her,  will only be broken by fire. ie when he dies. This is how weddings have been conducted in India for yugs. the first wedding being that of Bhagwaan Shiv Ji, and Mata Sati. Since then weddings have been carried out according to this ancient sanskriti. Only for Sikhs the wedding involves Guru Granth Sahib rather than fire.
I hope that you will not insult our sanskriti as you have on other occasions on this forum, even if you do not understand or agree with this.

On a serious, it's interesting to see that Singhs basically smacked down Brar Jats into submission and compelled them to join their ranks..... hhhmmm

The few Brars I've met have been dodgy mofos. Very proud and arrogant. I wonder how they'd feel if they knew their history?

    Gur fateh Satkirin penji!
I think you need to change your views. Please dont think like that!! Please!! Sikhi is not how you are taking.I assure you  that there is 100% equality on any basis in Sikhism.I'm too a Sikh girl. And I've never felt or experienced any kind of discrimination based on my gender whether in family(as all are sikhs),whether in any gurudwara sahib, whether among sikh sangat or any sikh community or here on sikh forum.
You know it's a psychological effect that as whatever we think, whatever we believe in or whatever we strongly support, becomes our imagination and this leads us to take things in the way we think. So,If I too start thinking like you that yes there is discrimination ,I'm a girl ,I 'm this I'm that, other men think so,so naturally and obviously Everything will seem behaving so.You know force of attraction/law of attraction.whatever we think/whatever we attract then that will attract you too.So I think it's just your own imagination or thoughts which are forcing to take the things in this way.
And No There is NO discrimination in Sikhism.I assure you this!
This is really so embarrasing for whole panth to read"there is discrimination on basis of gender in sikhism".WTH!! We are SIKHS NOT MUSLIMS!!
And I request opposite party here that please try to understand satkirin ji,as we should try to remover her doubt .She is just a victim of bigg misunderstanding and it's our duty/responsibility to correct her in a very humble way!
I again request you satkirin Ji,there is nothing like this in SIKHISM.If there were Male Gurus, then it had its own reasons.Sometime we are so ignorant or moorkh to completely understand a fact.
Please do ardaas! You will certainly be answered!

Just a small point. Whilst we do respect the Akaal Takht, not every decision made by the people running the Akaal Takht is correct  (I think we all know at least one example).

Look , be clear ..on this forum some may agree with you and others dont ..i am not the type that will keep nagging over issues ...if you feel women should do sewa ..be a sewadaar with a jatha that allows women ..thats your choice ...arguing with us on what you feel should be the ideal situation wont make sense ..none of us here are are jathedars , mukhis , or members of SGPC....
your post on every topic will have trash and filth against customs which came in place for a reason...pages full of your trash !
It is you who accepted Sikhi...you did not receive an invitation ..so please analyze your actions, Yogi Bhajan had the guts to form his own jatha and redefine Sikhi in his own way  If you wish you can set an example like him.

You call yourself as someone from an aboriginal origin of Canada then poke your nose into your own community and fight for their rights , you wont be considered a lesser Sikh for doing so.
N30SINGH , Chatanga1 bhaa ji ...all the seniors can we not have some great discussions instead of this trash? the forum even if quite is worth visiting, we keep reading older posts.
I am not saying we ban Satkirin or something ..inspite of all odds she is one of us ...but we need to finally convey a message to her that this is not the place for some puritan reform movement ..

Sant Jarnail Singh was Brar Jat but then so was the traitor who took Gandhi's order to attack the Golden Temple. There's good and bad in all. It wasn't just some Jats of Malwa that were bad, there was quite a few Jat Chaudhris of Majha from the time of Mir Mannu who had made common cause with him and used to hunt for Sikhs in their areas and send them to Lahore for execution.

you claim to have taken amrit. where in Guru Granth Sahib does it say to take Khande ki pahul and how to take it?

What do you know about Gurbani? The garbage you spout for someone who claims to have done 18 years of study, is really poor. I mean really really poor. You can't read Gurbani and understand it, unless someone spoon feeds you in english, and you give it all this.

There is no such thing as Male Authority.
I personally find feminine qualities attractive. Definition is subjective.
I am not attracted to Masculine traits in a woman.
I do not intend to control or dominate or make decisions for someone. Get that straight.
I am not a spokesperson for Sikhism or any particular group or a particular gender. I write, what I like, based on  personal analysis.
You cannot change my views, I do not intend to change your thinking. The discussion is useless.

No, thats just twisting it. You are saying that Sikhism is equal in everything between men and women. I'm telling it's not and used the Gurus as example. Everything in Sikhi is not gender equality> I know that. You know that. Stop changing your stance everytime you fail on the previous one. Just accept it.
OK, so first it was Men claiming women are equal, then high-castes claiming low-castes are equal, now you've moved onto slavery? Such a snake.
In India they probably were. Just like they were in Europe. But you cannot make this claim for Sikhs. Those that followed the Guru would never do that.
and this "(and probably seen as more expendable too) is just so typical of the snake you are. Think about how your own ancestors were treating women in Europe b efore you paste trash like this.
Gender roles do not change with taking Amrit. If you can't understand that you are really wasting this maanas janam.
What does this rehat maryada tell men their responsibility to their wife is? It says dont do anything with consulting your wife. This "God" thing you have in your head is not something you can understand, or are even trying to understand. You are seeing this "God" thing as as the same we actually think of Waheguru, and its not the same.
So tell us, did you marry a man/woman/eunuch/ladyboy?

I personally please close all arguments against this subject because we have a more complicated issues in the Dharam. Example Jathadhars are purchased to forgive jokers. That the most difficult times instead who reads or who does not read Raag Malla.

Look at what's happening to the Yazidis in Iraq. An exact replica of what the Muslims did to the Sikhs and Hindus in West Punjab. Maybe if the Yazidis had been recruited into Saddam's army maybe their villages would have had ex-military people to defend themselves when IS attacked.

Kavi raaj Bhai Santokh Singh Ji refers to "Ik Nau Lakh", which can be taken two ways.
    One is that 1 + 9 = 10, so 10 lakh.
The second way is 1 and 9 gives 19 lakh. 10 lakh mughal fauj and 9 lakh pahari kings armies plus the many mercenaries, robbers, looters, plunderers and hit men types.
Either way, there was 10 lakh fauj.
Many maha purkh in their Kathy also verify this (Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji etc.).
For me, all this is proof enough and this is the truth.
Questioning this is the beginning of an already slippery slope, where we question all of the kauthaks of Guru Sahib Ji. Saavdhaan.
