There is a reason so many different paths have put emphasis on mantras. Everything in the Universe is really just energy vibrating slow enough to manifest as something solid. What we experience as matter however is still just energy in a slow state of vibration. Quantum physics has already discovered that consciousness can affect (and create) matter. Vibration being the base of everything makes sense. Heat, light, sound, radio, electromagnetic, radiation, microwaves, etc are all just different spectrums of the same thing. Even an atom is in perpetual motion. Mantras are creating sounds which will have influence in the physical (and other) realms. I have not watched yet but I will.

I don't think that Sikhi relies on magic, or superstitions to find God.  In very simplest terms, Sikhi tells us one thing. God is within YOURSELF.  Rest is building on that message.  But the base message is that we are not these physical bodies, we are not even these identities we think we are. Remove the false ego identity and what is behind, the DOER, the EXPERIENCER... that IS us.  And there is only ONE DOER.  The message is go within yourself to find God. Remember...
Just like a drop of water is part of the ocean, and when separated from the ocean, it is still water.  But the thing is, we are the drops, and we have never actually left the ocean which is Waheguru, we just forget we were here.
We don't need to be celibate, we don't need to pray to idols, we don't need to do useless rituals, even when we mathatek to SGGSJ, it's not the physical pages or ink we are bowing to.  It's the truth contained within.  Because God = Truth.  Truth = God.  Guru = God.  There is ONE base truth to the Universe.  People get so hung up on following a ton of rules, rituals and eventually it becomes about the rituals, and the original reason for them has been lost.
Intimacy (within marriage) is part of this life.  People keep thinking kaam = sex. It's not!!!! There is a reason why gurbani keeps comparing our merging back with waheguru as like husband and wife relations... its because intimacy, in that moment, when done without kaam (meaning without craving for only physical pleasure) when done as a pure act of love for your spouse and your energies merge literally... its akin to the merging of us with waheguru, albeit on a small scale.  But its probably the closest we can get to what merging of our energy with another entity is like.
Truth has been found by many people in the world, not only Sikhs.  And many without following rules upon rules that in the end, seem to not even matter anymore because all of this you see around you, is transitory.  I don't know if I can explain any better.

I spend several hours a week volunteering to help with english language and communication skills for immigrants. These are both classroom environments and also one-to-one sessions with a range of different backgrounds. I help assist Chinese ,Philippine's, Punjabis ..etc. I know that many Sikhs are surprised when they learn that I also help a number of Koreans that are Christian students of theology, bible and pastor courses. They have been an interesting and respectable bunch that I've come across.

Finally, I can find someone in this crowd who talks Gurmat. Proud of you @CdnSikhGirl. No Ego here.

There are people in this forum who are sooo much influenced by Alif Laila & other mystical, mythological & fairy stories that they have moved far away from being practical.
For them, there has to some or other kind of magic to ascertain some person's spirituality, just as Hindus & Catholic brothers do.

I have had to change my alias on here already due to possible damage in my real life because of member chatanga.  I know even with strong emotions etc on here that none of you want to actually hurt someone's real life.  If you do then you are not very nice person. Please leave forum things to forum things.
Again if you want to nindya me please nindya my forum personality and leave my real life alone. I am sure you would not like it if someone did it to you. The same goes for anyone else on here. It's not funny and it's not a joke.

And by the way Kaam does not mean Sex.
Kaam is any uncontrolled desire.  One could be longing for expensive cars, jewellery etc and it is considered kaam. But people think normal intimacy in a marriage means kaam. Its not. The emphasis is not on owning a car, or some jewellery but the excessive craving for these things, same as sex.

If the Gurus produced children without intercourse please show the proof. All of the Gurus were advocating normal householder life and even Guru Gobind Singh Ji said to increase the love with your spouse as much as you can, but never even in your dreams go to the bed of another (proof he was speaking of physical relations and not just the emotion of love).
Also the shabad posted by akalpurkh is NOT speaking about hypocrisy as suggested by Paapiman. If you read the entire shabad (by devotee Kabir Ji) it is speaking against practices of the yogis, including celibacy, as means to obtain the divine.  As we know, the Gurus were against useless rituals.  They keep reminding us over and over that you don't need to do all these false things, useless rituals to find God. Because God is within your own mind. The way to find God is through your own mind.  Pay attention to the rahao line...

Now if what paapiman said was correct, that its somehow saying that celibacy AND remembering the Lord in your mind / soul are required for salvation, then it is also saying that wandering around naked is required! Both ideas, celibacy and wandering naked are presented and condemned in the exact same way! So if you are saying one is encouraged (but just not by itself) then the other one is too!  So why aren't they running around naked while they are practicing celibacy? Except... that's not it.  The shabad is clearly condemning these useless rituals as a means to find God. Because it tells us God is within our own mind and soul and we can only find God with naam.  This is danger of taking single tuks out of context of the shabad!
Anyway this is just my opinion and I am sure it will be ripped to pieces and people will nindiya me again.

A couple of times a month I spend time in an elderly care home sitting and listening with the old people there.  They are so lonely and love that someone young has taken time to be with them because they really have nothing else to do, and rarely visited by their family.  They share some lovely stories and really appreciate any visitor : )

My final words on this topic:
I am female and I am tying a turban and nobody will stop me.  I dont care if someone think I am a transexual. I am not.  My husband specifically wanted a turban wearing Singhni and he the most amazing person ever.  He wanted a spiritual partner and not a model.
There is nothing in any rehet maryada saying women can not. And in fact there is evidence pointing to the fact that women *should* tie one. Not mandatory, but its suggested in several rhetnamas with the wording *should* in reference to women tying one.
I chose to follow that *should* and so I do.
If another girl chooses not to, that is her choice.  Most don't.  I understand their decision.  Majority of them want hairstyles, and to be able to dress up and look pretty.  For myself, I am not drawn to makeup, or lots of jewelry (I do wear a necklace once in awhile). And I want to keep my kesh protected which I don't cut because I am Amritdhari.  I also like that I can move around freely without worrying about a chunni falling off.  At home I use those expandable bandanas that cover your whole top of your head.  But in public I always have turban on for the last 2 full years now.  I don't ever intend to stop.

@delibeli Actually no my husband and his whole family believe in equality.  My husband and I are actually so well tuned that we practically finish each other sentences. He actually works with women empowerment and he actively fights for equal rights of women including in Sikhi. I am very fortunate he is my husband!!  He is an amazing person. Some of the guys on here would think that because he doesn't order me around, that somehow I am using my husband as a doormat. I am not.  Full equality of husband and wife are totally possible! I don't think I am exaggerating when I say that rather than one of us dying for the other in a fight, we'd rather fight side by side and die together. THATS how close we are. I can't explain it. We have a spiritual connection that is beyond words.
Exactly you hit the nail on the head. Marriage is about LOVE and CARE for EACH OTHER.  It's not about who is in charge and barking orders.
Also I never understood this idea that in a partnership of only two that one person always has to lead and the other always has to follow.  It can work when both are leaders. They will divert to each other and lead together.  Butting heads will only ever happen if husband and wife are so out of tune with each other that they can't agree on something. If they love each other they will compromise. Maybe one time he will and the next time she will. More often than not, they will both prefer to give the other what they want and then the issue is not that each wants their own way but that each wants the other to!  LOL.  Yes this has happened.  Small story:

At a restaurant, Chinese.  I wanted springrolls. He was trying to get me to select something less greasy and more healthy he had something he wanted to order.  But I had not eaten much the few days prior and spring rolls really sounded good.  I didn't know what else to order so I told him to pick something then because I really didn't know what else I wanted.  Know what happened? We got the springrolls AND what he was wanting. LOL And we both enjoyed both! hahaha

Don't listen to others, listen to your heart, always.  You tie your turban because of your love for the Guru.  Your turban signifies your love for Him, so, don't ever stop wearing it. Others are just envious of your focused mind on what you are doing.  This state of mind is a gift from God, not everyone is fortunate enough to receive it.  You are very fortunate and truly blessed.  Let others burn with envy, don't let them worry or distract you.  In fact, you look very beautiful with your turban on, so keep it up

Admins, though I am not bothered by such things, and it only shows his immaturity (and it shows his frustration that he was not able to push his point and have everyone agree with him so he just lashed out because he's ticked off) I think that some amount of moderation should ensue because for one there are maybe young people coming here, and two that type of behaviour is most definitely not becoming of a Singh (or Kaur).

And this is the reason why some people tend to get really upset if women 'dress like men' etc. It has nothing to do with the women's looks and everything to do with keeping women in their place (which as you show) has been seen as inferior in many cultures.  Of course, my tying a turban is seen by some Singhs as overstepping my inferior rank to Singhs, and trying to stand side by side with them, which in their eyes could never happen. I should be as Gurpreet Bhenji put it, home washing dishes, cooking having a boatload of babies and caring for my husband. Sikhi is supposed to be different. At least our Gurus taught different. I truly don't believe that being in Guru Gobind Sinhj Ji's roop was only meant for men. After all, Sikhi deals with the formless, the genderless, the soul.
Btw if I was stuck in the culture of the girls in that article, I'd probably rather give up chance of marriage, to become a man too.
