If you would really worry about what OTHERS are saying .. u would never be happy. People called Nanak Sahib bhutna , betaala... Kabeer ji was also cursed by his own mother ...
Dekh k andith karo. Forget what others say.. do wat makes the Guru happy.
Moreover Amrit will bring good vices on its own. ATB

Bhen ji I have removed the link and the picture from your post in my quote of it.

I do want to take amrit and luckly with Waheguru's kirpa my nitnem banis is quite good. I just have a few a few loose strings left to finish before taking amrit. Like my mum said take it when you get career wise ready etc.

The other annoying thing is how people like from family friend etc tease people who are religious with pharses like granthi bhai etc. I get annoyed so I give rude answers back when someone says this to me.

Pls all for God's sake stop attacking each other. When Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was asked which 'panth is better he never said mine .. he answered " Tumhe tumhara khoob humein hamaara khoob" i.e U love Urs. I love mine.

We are not supposed to disrespect any religion just because most of us have less knowledge about Christianity ...we are not able to compare and answer doesn't mean we will find flaws and attack each other.

One of the common points in both our religion is that we Sikhs just like Muslims and Christians  believe in one God, but unlike Christians and Muslims we don't believe in the existence of Satan or 😈 . Our Babaji talks about MAYA instead who's also the creation of one God. There's NO ONE EXCEPT HIM. HE CREATED ALL . Even Maya with whose three vices  we are all influenced and perform negative things..
Who can compare. the two religions better than one the who has been a Christian for 44 yrs and then stepped into Sikhism and is loving it.

To make it effortless, question who is doing the jaap? In reality, its vahiguru doing jaap of itself thats a absolute truth- Sargun Nirgun Nirankar sun samadhi apan kiya nanaka ape fir JAAP.
Dont be vested into count downs, dont let ego take ownership of jaap, dont let mind focus and fragment absolute reality into relative reality- self phalna phalna singh or kaur doing the jaap....just DO it/see it or feel it (AWARENESS/SURAT/CONSCIOUSNESS DOING THE JAAP PERIOD with no sense i am person doing the jaap)/ dont be vested or emotionally attached to jaap, semantics of it.
GET OUT OF THE WAY !! EFFORTLESS VAHIGURU IS DOING JAAP ON ITSELF

cool, i never knew about the saliva thing

but how do the first two relate to sikhi?

penji t kaur, shaheed singhs are one with vaheguroo, they are not attracted to simple treguni things. The BANI and LOVE for Maharaj would be detected by the Singhs and call them to the sangat.

Sat Sri Akal Ji I am not a knowledgeable person but after reading all the posts I feel sava lakh japs, 40 days, chalia, white sheet, water and ghee jot are all ritualistic practices.
Rituals are not Gurmukh way of life and not what our Guru's taught us. Simran and Seva should be GuruSikh’s goal. Unbreakable ji said it very wisely.

Make constant Waheguru Simran jap a habit, a second nature, just like breathing.

Sava lakh is 125000 . if u do approximately 30 malas of mool mantar upto hosi bhi sach for 40 days , then it is approximately 1 lakh 25 thousand jaap.

each mala takes about 7-10 minutes . 30 malas take about 5 hours daily .

so basically its 5 hours for 40 days .

if u do it for 20 hrs daily , u can complete it in approx. 10 days .

we can easily sleep , that's no big deal , but its difficult to take out that much time if u have a job or something . but still its no big deal with gurkirpa

Ardaas is the key. I hv realised that the day I even think that ....wow I woke up at 4 ,next day it's gone... Before u sleep just tell Guru Sahib ji, meri koi samrathha nai. Pls wake me up . And trust me He Will.
But yes u have to kick Ur blanket and fight the Kalyug once he wakes u up.

Bhen ji it does seem like a complicated situation from what you have mentioned.

I myself have not taken amrit yet but with Waheguru's kirpa I know the panj banis and many other banis.

So perhaps you can try to increase your paaths banis and show how desperately you would like to take amrit then maybe your husband will be happy for you to take it.

Though I m too lowly to comment on anything in this regard as I m not blessed with either of the Amrit yet still all I would like to mention here something that I heard in a Katha... Pls consider
This is like 'water boring' or a handpump where they dig deep till they reach the water level below the earth.. then put water from above and as both the waters meet a spring of water bursts out of the earth, which doesn't stop after that. Amrit inside the body and Amrit ceremony can thus be related. Where both are equally important as if u don't dig deep enough you won't be able to solve the purpose and vice versa.
    2. If Amrit ceremony would have not been important why would Guru Gobind Singh Sahib have  taken it himself?? Who could be more pious??

Though I see its been years since u have posted this and probably by now u may have soared on higher levels, but just that I had similar thoughts initially.. so I thought I would in any case put my observations here...
    1. Wat Guru Amardas Sahib did or wat Guru Arjan Dev ji preached is the right path. N yes if u feel little proud on doing it. Its o.k. be proud on being a sikh. Not Egoistic but Proud of being "Guru di dhee " Sacrifice is a part of sikhi
    2. As for Guru Gobind Singh ji My Master-  just look at it again.. He sacrificed ALL HE HAD. " SARBANS DAANI. "  wat did he fight for -Other's good. Not for self. So fid Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib. Sikhs are only made for 1. simran ( Waheguru di seva)   2. Seva (manavta di seva)
Thas wat is Gurmat as per my understanding.  Pls forgive n correct me as I m pretty moorakh ..n new to this forum

    Very good!
I totally agree that they are spiritual for self journey. But they can also be 'experienced'  in terms of your own consciousness, as to the stages that it has to ascend i it's spiritual transformation.
Funny thing is that over the years, I've done a few little self interpretations here and there that are mostly a little botched, and un-sequenced,... because I've probably taken a little bit from here and there with all the different variations that exist in sikhi world!  ...However, nowadays,... I see it a little more clearly and actually realise that all the information and facts you will ever need were mostly right there in the pauris from 34 beginning with "Rati ruti tithi var" .
DHARAM Khand, like Gurpreet says, is the 1st stage of realisation or as I would describe ->the Path of DHARAM.
Guru Nanak ji tells us,.. that we are on earth, which is itself a DHARMSAAL.     DHARAMSAAL is described as what I understand, an old "inn" or meeting place/place of rest/ some en route location. ..etc,,     This means that we ALL start here or end up here, no matter what dharam. A single Dharam is required as the path to the top of the mountain. If we imagine all the different dharams as individual paths to the top, and we can only walk on one single one all the way according to where and what situation/place we are in.   DHARAMSAAL, in it stopover sense, shows that, we/manukhs, are all here in the Dharamsaal according to our KARAMS and our binding to the Lak chaurasi joon cycle. It becomes apparent from gurbani later on, that we are all in the same lakh chaurasi cycle, and have this one-off opportunity to take DHARAM.
I may be wrong, but I understand, that as our first steps and reason for ending up in this joon; is to work on BOTH our KARAM and DHARAM. (not to confuse the 'karams' here with KARAMKHAND later on)
Overall, in these 5 khand pauris, Guruji has explained the route or journey to -->> SACHKHAND, and to which we can transform our consciousness into 'permanently'.  Sachkhand is actually existing here and everywhere because ''Sackhand vasai Nirankar'' and Nirankar is himself the creator and in the creation (remember- Farida Khalak Khalk Meh Khalk Vasay Rab Maahe "The Creator God Is In The Creation, And The Creation Abides In God" ).. He is the All-pervading, all-knowing, right here, right now. So Sachkhand is not some million miles away.

I can try explain in more depth and following the gurbani- tuks when I get more time......but in a nutshell,.... We start by taking path of DHARAM KHAND and working our KARAMS. Gurbani explains in many places after japji, that taking DHARAM and giving full devotion of self seva, self sacrificing Mat and haumai  to satguru.-->, can get you walking the mountain path in Hukam, as per gurmukh and being in 100% gurmat. This will start erasing all your karams one by one! .....  this is 1st DHARAMKHAND realm.
(Amerdeep ji  questioned of why khands are never mentioned again in bani?...and I would understand that all the bani that follows, expounds and opens up in depth of exactly how one is to transform their consciousness after taking birth on the Dharamsaal to get to Sachkhand).      Also, in another thread, I explained my understanding of the later jath pahara tirajh suniar/ Goldsmith verse as being a technique of helping you practice and realise yourself in this transforming process, by using technique of NAAM JAP. when one starts Dharam khand steps.

Second stage is GYAAN KHAND.  and this stage begins when Naad becomes manifest. (Gyan Khand meh gyan patchand, tithai NAAD binodh kod anand)...or should I say that Gyan begins at Naad. The gyaan is not just intuitive knowledge. But it is a continuous gyaan of increased awareness, consciousness expansion, ridd sidh- nau nidh and all the signals mentioned in prabh ka simran pauri of sukhmani sahib lets say... all the washing of dirt from mann, purification ,,gyaan to help power 5 dhuts   etc      Then is SARAM KHAND and KARAM KHAND, which are very close and describe the path/stage leading one up to "Sacha Darbar"  or the court of the lord. These are the heavens that are mentioned in many faiths and assumed to be final destinations,... but Guru Nanak Dev ji has given us the ultimate guide to beyond these angelic heavens and joys that sit outside the door of Waheguru's darbar. (I'm sure that heavens are not sachkhand). Saram Khand and Karam Khand  are described as being near impossible to depict or express,  but Dhan dhan Guru Nanak Dev ji sachey patshah has given the nishanees (insignias) with subtle hints in those pauris, so that they can be acknowledged and recognized to the seeker.

A Cuban friend of mine once told me a story.

There was once a Cubano Catolico who so broke that he hadn't eaten any food for days. So, like a good Catholic, he got down on his knees and prayed: "Dios mio, I haven't had a straight meal for days. I'm starving, please answer my prayers and send me some good food and I'll go the Church next Sunday and light a candle for you in thanksgiving."

After the first day, the Cubano is getting pains in his abdomen because he still hasn't received anything. Again, he gets down on his knees, and this time with more passion and desperation, he prays and prays with tears in his eyes. "Eh Dios, I know that I haven't been the best Catholic that I could be, but I still love you. You are my mother and father, please provide for me.

It's approaching midnight on the second day and there has still been no response from Our Father in Heaven.

On the third day, too weak to stay on his knees and too dehydrates to weep, the man lies prostrate on the ground and mumbles his prayers continuously for the whole day. "Dios mio, I have no one but you. Provide me for me and my children as you provided for St Joseph to care for the infant Jesus." He goes on and on like this until early on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, at amritvela, the Devil appears in a puff of smoke, laughing at the man's misfortune. Says the Prince of Darkness, "You fool, you see that God does not answer your prayers because I am the real god of this world. Indeed, I am the sargun form of the Almighty who has come in answer to your prayers. Eat this food which I provide for you, and a light a candle for the one who has truly answered your prayers."

At this, a veritable feast with smoked jutia, chicharones, ropa vieja, and all the arroz the man can eat appears as if by jadu. The man takes one look at the food and eats his fill with the Devil laughing uproariously above him.

Come time for Sunday mass, the Cubano goes straight to church and lights a candle in thanksgiving, praying: "Dios mio, thank you for answering my prayer and sending your servant, the Devil, to bring me the food I asked you for. I light this candle for you, may it be a pleasing offering to you."

The point is that, you may have personal experiences of devatay, pirs, sheikhs, or whatever, but one shouldn't allow them to distract you from the path of worship of the Highest.
