Conceptualize everything in terms of "energy". Even mental energy that you use for thoughts.
If you are using too much thought energy towards lust, then you need to started redirecting that same energy towards other better thoughts.
BTW, it is not really correct to assume that only "high avastha person has conquered lust",,, because out ofall the 5 dhuts. Lust is the one that takes so many hidden form in your own energies. This 'lower down energy'(below navel) is the  ONLY one that can be transformed into a substantial amount of divine energy,...this is what shall help to go towards Higher avastha.   Higher avastha doesn't come first and then kaam vanishes, kaam has to be stamped on in order to get to higher avastha.  It's important to understand this, especially about conserving this energy.
Kaam is a huge hindrance for any spiritual progress.  I disagree that you should distract yourself or avoid situations such as avoiding places where opposite sex may be or using cop-out excuses to avoid temptation. Because you are just SUPPRESSING the same energy, which usually ends up manifesting into frustration, anxiety, anger, disease or any other negative trait. Instead, when it occurs, like say a physical arising or itch down below, then you should DIVERT your THOUGHTS towards Akaal. You should try and pump navel, do saas saas and make/feel the energy rise upwards towards your hirda.  You should embrace this human instinct/behavior by NOT letting maya control your thoughts, but taking charge yourself and directing them towards physical. it's as if the universe just lumps a ton of energy on you with you making any effort. Pick up and use this load of energy wisely.

    I think it's both.
In early stages of saas graas, saas saas, say when breathing through mouth, one is able to extract it from the sukham pavan around us.  I should remind you that the amrit rass is everywhere in sukham form, meaning inside and out.  This early stage of tasting amrit rass from the brahm around us is said to be an acknowledgment nishanee from Waheguru.  Many gurmukhs question this sweet taste because they don't feel anand or bliss, and Bhai saab Simranjeet and other bhai saabs have said that you should take it as a positive insignia confirming that the bacha is on the right path.
The above is just one stage of tasting the sweet nectar. There is a further stage when the amrit can be produced from within and it can be felt dripping at back of tongue. I can go into more detail about this some other time, but this comes from sitting in dhyian with anhad shabad. It is a very concentrated secretion (physical) and a miniscule drop gives an immense taste.(drips from pineal gland) Sometimes called naam rass or har rass since it comes directly from the "hari-mandar' inside you. Lots of gyan and anand will manifest from this naam rass unlike the rass described above.

I see where you are coming from paaji. No probs,.. I'm not gonna break your faith but some of us have also been at the same stage you are at. We too were questioning the authenticity of what is shabad, what is dunn, what is naam, anhad, toor, naad and so on..  From my experience you can ONLY learn and understand this part of bhagtee in stages. The stages of your own self-progress.   There is no black or white method of describing it in paragraphs and learning it without self-practice.
Yes, there are many nishanees for different stages of shabad but as far as I know, The 5 dhoot are ONLY left behind when in chautha padh.   However, once you get naam pargat and have crossed the 1st bhavsagar, then you can  be protected/shielded (free from)  low vibration entities of different  kinds, but you will never be free from the 5 dhoot whilst your MANN and atma are in  astool form.  The khel is about the 5 dhoot and your mann constantly. as long as you are having vichaar/furnay/thoughts of any kind, ..then the 5 dhoot are always tagging on.   These are some of the key points that I can give you and I'm stating them with relevance to gurbani. I suggest you have a good read through this thread from the beginning and things will become a little less fuzzy.
You are questioning these things, and I'm glad. it shows you have the drive. My advice is that you practice simran with faith and don't ignore any sounds you hear. That doesn't mean you follow them or try searching for them. They come in time and if you read back older posts you will see how me and some other seekers found our way through certain sounds we experienced.  Only after you have heard them  will you begin to understand what is true anhad i.e.. when listening in chautha pad avastha(outside of tre-gun maya) and what are pavan shabads. Another thing is , Amrit rass. I remember reading a number of texts and many of them didn't mention the sweet amrit rass or it's stages. Amrit rass is a must and it's the earliest nishanees of you walking the right path. But amrit rass itself has different stages of 'where' you are drinking it from, even though there is only ONE amrit.
I'm not saying I have the right answers, but the little bits I'm telling you have been confirmed with what Bhai Simranjeet Tohana ji and other gurmukhs have stated on many occasions.
Other piece of advise  I can give, is for you not to be trying to jump ahead. All this does is create self-made gyan and more thoughts for the mind. Instead focus with 100% dhyian on the stage you are practicing. Whether that is Saas graas, saas saas or antharghat.  Give it your fullest devotion.

Can you explain a little clearly which part you understanding as anhad and what you understanding as not anhad.  There is a lot of confusion and it took a couple of a us a few years understand the origins of different sounds.

The Gurbani does not promote or support ‘Frog-Philosophy’. However, our ‘frog-mind‘ always thinks in terms of cleansing the external body-frame but not the mind:

JFYI, Sri Akal Takht saab is the apex authority, but there are four other Takhts in the Khalsa Panth too. There are also differences in the maryadas, at the different Takhts.
    For examples,
Jhatka is done at Sri Hajoor saab and Sri Patna saab. It used to be done at Sri Akaal Takht saab in the past too.
Bhog of Sukha takes place at Sri Hajoor saab.
Shaster Pooja is probably also done at Sri Hajoor saab.
    There might be more differences.
We, as Sikhs, must respect the maryadas of all the Takhts.

The main point here is that no Jathebandi should falsely claim that they are following the full Rehat.
There might be a Jathebandi out there, which does follow the full Rehat or most of it, but as you can see (from this thread) that it seems that the Gurmat Bibek team does not follow the full Rehat.

Jathebandi differences will come into this discussion because a Jathebandi can say that they are following an injunction in a Rehatnama, but the very same injunction could be a Kurehat for another Jathebandi.
Like for example, there is a Rehatnama which clearly states that a Singh can consume Opium (Afeem) and Marijuana (Bhang).
Please listen to Gyani Inderjit Singh jee Raqbewale. He quotes a verse from a Rehatnama in the audio clip below.

Gaaveh khaani chaare. Gaaveh khand mandal varbhanda....
I kept on wondering for a long time  if Astral sounds are Anhad sounds?
They are pretty close to what i hear. Then as Gurbani says gyaan khand mai gyaan parchand tithe naad binod kod Anand which means that one reaches gyaan khand he hears these naad and gains spiritual wisdom plus bliss. Now astral sounds can be a part of naad though like any other music however its not the same as Anhad. Now since naam vibrates in every thing  naam vibrates in planets as well hence astral sounds can be naam but naam isn't Astral sounds.
I love his creation. So interesting yet so complex- vismaad n achraj

Kulath di daal as we call horse gram in punjabi is good for cholestrol but should be consumed in winters mainly as it is 'garam' in taseer n may have side effects. Green moong is better anyday -
But the second recipe is awesome. Peanut n banana will clean one's bowels n detoxify the body - but again once a month or fortnight at least.
    Good one. Thanks!

I would suggest not to go for fried Namkeens, chips, maida or any of those junk if you have such stressed out routine already.
More whole grains, fresh fruits n veggies are rather more recommended ( remember m a certified dietician)

Mann nahi tikda te paathh na karaan??
    Paath karo taaki mann tikke.
Focus and concentration are the fruits of doing Gurbani n jaap. The Results! You can't have results before you study or appear for exams.
Keep karam kaands aside as Guru Nanak Dev ji taught. Your regular one time bath with water suitable to your body and the weather is okay too. Ardas should be a prayer with love - may or may not have specific words.
Thoughts does bother each of us, so that's human! Bring your mann back to track everytime you realise it's wandering - all bani of Anand sahib keeps on calling mann - eh mann mereya:  eh mann pyareya etc. Mann nu control karna is the ultimate goal n it's not a one day game. It's a lifelong rather lives - long struggle
    All the best
