Maybe to a tosser like you, the systematic abuse and degradation of a vulnerable people is not an important issue.

However, anyone with an ounce of humanity would see it differently.

I know, the west has a tendency to 'commodify' spirituality and turn it deviant anyway. Like using it for heightened sexual ecstasy, or as some counter-balance to the ruthless, stress laden corporate life. They've even started to use it to try and alleviate exam stress in teenagers.

I watched Ip Man I and II recently and one point made there (from the Chinese to Japanese in the movie) about a spirit of benevolence permeating Chinese martial arts (itself attributed to Confucianism), which was missing from the then imperialistic Japanese strikes home.

Thats true but many meditation western new age retreats out there is there to show magic of altered state of consciouness*..so mentally unstable will do just fine to see another magic show reality it probably helps them their mental state which is good news, one step at a time.

Real deal-direct teaching is quite boring for lot of people as its nothing to do with expereince or magic show but rather to do with indentity shift of experiencer, more focus is on actual source-JOT saroop which is cognizing the whole expereince- backward step, prior stateless state than forward-

    * nothing wrong with altered state of consciousness as long its mentioned its not the real thing so that people don't end up getting fixated on it.

    Interesting.

I have often heard one teacher say learn to do it properly yourself first and make it, then worry about teaching others. If you don't know what your doing yourself and start guiding others it becomes a case of the blind leading the blind. If the other person encounters some issues which you don't know how to overcome and it affects their mental stability then you will be responsible.

I can now understand what they meant.

Modern day Sikhi: 1. Have very abhramic version/judeo-christian interpertation of Vahiguru/Satguru in Sikhism, sikh retaining its individuality rather than die in shabad. 2. Use external rehits like commandments, follow it as commandments as opposed to look at it seamless process part of body/ transcending it (no longer attached-detached yet engaged) , follow first level intial stage sikhi as their end all or be all turning into dogma- bringing complacency in one self/hindrance to drive to explore higher consciousness/reality in Sikhi. 3. Use nitneem/amritvela as defense mechanism tool for egoic conditioned mind of fullfiling it as sense of duty as opposed to doing nitneem at amritvela in meditation in deeply resonating experience/self reflection/introspection- deeply diving in nitneem- deep resonating discourses from japji, jaap, svaie, chauapi, anand sahib , abiding in remembrance of deep resonance from nitneem through out the whole day. Whole point of nitneem is 24/7 if nitneem one has recited at amritvela does not resonate deeply with you throughout the whole day then nothing wrong with nitneem or amritvela principles but everything wrong with one dogmatic mindset. Know all the Karmas (actions) as useless, consider all the religious paths of no value. Without the prop of the only Name of the Lord, all the Karmas be considered as illusion.20.50. 4. Provide literal interpretation of Gurbani, confine gurbani to vikayaran only or taking literal explanation without any contextualization, looking at various aspects of divine (Sargun-nirgun) interpertation of Gurbani. 5. Devotional yet very superfical singing, reciting/acting of advait(non dual) message of gurbani in very dualistic action. Old traditional Gurmat: 1. Satguru/Vahiguru is one and same, but changes it role/perceived it as- Sargun-SGGS/shabad dhun, Ultimately Nirgun-Shabad gyan-pure awareness/eternal gyan knowledge based on individual sikhs spiritual development/consciousness evolution, its very intimate one on one relationship with Vahiguru as opposed to abstract/conceptual/confined philosophy out there in sky separate from individual experience. Only dissolution of egoic self or die before you psychically die do can provide realization of atam anand/ nij ghar in Sikhi. 2, 3. Do not see rehat as commandements of soul but rather commandments of body which is temporal- five elements, do not reject it but keep it as seamless as possible (engaged yet detached), engaged because its part of body but de-attached because sikh identifies with pure consciousness eternal non divided spirit/ soul(atma) is eternal and above from form and does not have any external disciplines. Rejecting rehat would be rejecting one's body care. 4. Acknowledge all interpretation of gurbani- literal, bhav(purpose of shabad), uthanka(historical), antriv(deep). However, ultimately accepts one own deeper experience with gurbani, experience gurbani oneself in meditation/quietness throws an question in form of self enquiry receives answer/interpretation of gurbani directly from dhur/divine via divine meditation insight (anubhav parkash- intuitive direct knowledge-gyan khand gyan parchand-japji sahib), which is always unfolding itself into more deeper infinite ocean of divine gurbani knowledge so experience with gurbani is limitless. 5. Abide/act in non dualistic (Advait Gurmat) teaching itself/dya-compassion in form of daily meditation/sadhana so experience of non duality shabad for eg- akaal ustat can be directly experienced rather than mere singing, boxing into concepts or idea rather than conception- in action.

dalsingh101 reacted to SikhKhoj in Do you believe the 5Ks are stunting the growth of Sikhism?
The overemphasis of external rehat is surely stunting not only Sikhis growth but also our inner growth. The same shackles of mala, janeu, mullahs beard, prayer mat that the Gurus broke to emphasise on the inner are being repeated in our dharam in the name of Kakkars. No one is denying their importance, but without inner sidak they are of no use.

In the last 100 years we have become so extremist (in the wrong way) that we shun Sehajdharis, while historically we've always had the Khalsas and Sahejdharis. We are rewriting history and renaming people who might seem to be Sahejdhari (like Bhai Kanhaiya).

From my experiences and observations both on a macro and micro level, I've seen a lot of faults within the community along with virtues.

These are the faults that I find most notable:

-the fact that most of us don't fully understand our own religion
-we're severely intolerant of our own people yet kiss up to the Western lifestyle
    - we don't educate our own offspring about Sikhi or strengthen it, due to the fact that most Panjabis know only 2% of Sikhi and haven't educated themselves about it
    - "Orthodoxy" is either frowned upon or some a$$hole takes things too far
-We betray our own kind and are easy sell outs
    - We try to Adapt to the western way of thought and life and try to understand our faith through those contexts and use them as our parameters in morality, ethics, and religion.
    -extreme Hypocrisy
-Not uniting, even when we're in the west
    -Selfishness
-preaching a concept and then contradicting it in actions and practice.

These problems are in almost all communities, but these are really prevalent amongst us.

The other thing people have to face up to is the plain reality that right now, in our panth we have 'jungle rule', where the physically strong dominate over weaker sections of the community.

To me that should give Singhs even more motivation to train and try and be physically prepared mentally and psychologically. These 'panthic police' aren't going anywhere anytime soon. And this means that they will only really behave if they are on the receiving end of what they dish out. Just crying about them wont cut it.

dalsingh101 reacted to Guest in ~~Deep Gnosis Behind Mahavak In Gurbani~
~~Deep Gnosis behind Mahavak in Gurbani~   Source: Taken from commentary of japji sahib teeka by sant gyani gurbachan singh bhindranwale     We all heard about term 'mahavaak' during katha discourses of gurbani in sikh tradition many times. But ever wondered deep gnosis meaning behind the term mahavaak? This small write up is invitation for sikhs (spiritual seekers/learner) to explore deep meanings of mahavak in gurbani so gnosis of mahavak in gurbani be understood and contemplated upon and applied in sikh spiritual quest.   In traditional gurmat, mahavaak in gurbani in form of verse, term, mantra or couplet within gurbani means - 'direct knowledge about unity between soul and supreme soul-vahiguru'.   Satguru has given apar kirpa(grace) to whole humanity by providing such direct knowledge about unity between soul and supreme soul which meant to be contemplated by seeker who wishes to know truth or their real self..   Sant gyani gurbachan singh khalsa bhindranwale writes in japji sahib teek (pdf page-510) to reiterate importance of gurbani revelation and mahavaks-direct knowledge of unity of soul and supreme soul-vahiguru.   Whilst vedas have four main mahavak (direct knowledge of unity between soul and supreme soul). Revelation of gurbani/Gurbani provides countless mahavaks. Sant ji provides examples from gurbani.   1. Satguru nanak dev ji gave updesh to advance seeker/learner(sikh). Here satguru gives direct knowledge of unity between soul and supreme soul in this mahavak- Tu sada salamat nirankar. Satguru repeats this mahavak four times in Panch parvan, Asankh jaap, Asankh Morakh, Asankh Nav couplets in japji sahib.   Commentary of tu sada salamat nirankar(japji sahib teek pdf page- 483):   Question was asked by spiritual seeker (sikh) to satguru nanak dev ji what is my saroop? or my identity? Satguru nanak dev ji responds:   Tu (Individual real self-soul) Sada Salamat (Supreme soul-Vahiguroo)   Nirankar: Both are nirankar.   2. Nirgun sargun apaie Soi (Ang- 129)   3. Nirgun Aaap Sargun Bhi Ohi (Ang- 297)   Sant ji further explains bachans which has sargun and nirgun knowledge of vahiguroo or unity shabads, those are all mahavaks and should be perceived it as such by advance seeker. Advance seeker and seeker who posses such estoeric attributes- requires only small indication (dristan-example).   -- Unity of individual soul and supreme soul also written in rest of gurbani. Āṯmā parāṯamā eko karai. His soul and the Supreme Soul become one. Anṯar kī ḏubiḏẖā anṯar marai. ||1|| The duality of the inner mind is overcome. Āṯme no āṯme ḏī parṯīṯ ho▫e ṯā gẖar hī parcẖā pā▫e. If the individual soul has faith in the Supreme Soul, then it shall obtain realization within its own home.     Also bachan by sri guru gobind singh ji in sri dasam granth sahib- gyan parbodh:   ਚਰਿਓ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਰਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਗ ॥ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਭੰਗ ॥ उचरिओ आतमा परातमा संग ॥ उतभुज सरूप अबिगत अभंग ॥ The soul said to the Higher Soul; the Germinating Entity, Unmanifested and Invincible; What is this Soul Entity? Which hath indelible glory and which is of queer substance."2.127.   ਪਰਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਚ ॥ परातमा बाच ॥ The Higher Soul said:   ਯਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਹਿ ਆਤਮਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਜਿਹ ਅਮਿਤ ਤੇਜਿ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਕਾਮ ॥ यहि ब्रहम आहि आतमा राम ॥ जिह अमित तेजि अबिगत अकाम ॥ This Soul is itself Brahman;" Who is of Everlasting Glory and is Unmanisfested and Desireless. Who is indiscriminate, actionless and deathless; Who hath no enemy and friend and is Merciful towards all.3.1228.   ----   Above discourse is dedicated to sant gyani gurbachan singh bhindranwale on their barsi, sant ji japji sahib teeka and above gurbani katha in japji sahib steek is gift to sikh world on their barsi. This is meant to be understood and contemplated on and applied by sikhs from all walks of life.
