harsharan000 got a reaction from Sikhilove in Sin In Sikhism
Though this is quite an old thread, yet many may have similar doubts.
So in this respect, it could well be said, that everybody knows smoking is injurious to health, yet people do smoke ...
Everybody knows alcohol and drug consumption are also injurious to health, yet people do get into drugs and drinking...
Evrybody knows one should not exceed the speed limits, yet people get fined for it and cause fatal accidents ....
People know, jealousy, hatred, lies, ego, greed, untruthfulness .... are all bad, yet they enjoy getting dirty in that mud of ignorance and malice ...
So you see, we are who in spite of knowing the rules and regulations, we do break them, so naturally we have to learn to behave, and unless we learn it, nature goes giving us chances upon chances, until we mature, whether by good ways or by the hard ways .
So is the purpose of the cycle of 84, unless we become good human beings in order to evolve spiritually and reach our True Home, we shall keep on stumbling in the mayavee creation.

Well there are the lights, the visions, sometimes other powers/siddis. The lights and visions open your mind and serve as a guide in your path. Positive visions can give you comfort that you’re on the right track.
Blind faith after this is great. If you can practice a Truthful living, without needing or desiring the visions etc, and experience life beyond the thieves, it’s something to behold. The path never ends.
Live life free of the thieves, free of the bs. Live and apply Gurbani. And detach and guide and teach others to detach.

Be real (and never get over excited or nervous about anything), and accept reality
Accept that only I dictate my life and who I am, no one else can define me or dictate my life. Only I truly know who I am
Don’t look for or need approval or validation, approve of and validate yourself, only believe yourself and no one else

Know yourself (as Sat/Truth and stay true to yourself and all around you
I think this is such a good exercise even imagining you’re older than you are and giving advice to yourself now at what age you are currently

Wisdom beyond any words to describe the spiritual depth in the words of Guru Jee in the post above on Salok Mahala 9.
Not much to be said or added, but If summarized, it could well be done in the following 2 points:
1) Have no attachments to any materialistic creations, be they of any kind such as of family, possesions, wealth, etc .... for all are temporary and perishable in time and space, and clinging to them, is the reason of our pain and misery
2) And as seen in the 2 lines below, establish a true and a strong everlasting relation with Him, by lovingly meditating upon Him, for He alone is the only ONE and ultimate changeless Truth at all times, the source of true bliss.
Kuhu Naanuk bhuj har munaa aoudhh jaath hai beeth ||3||
Says Nanak, MEDITATE, vibrate upon the Lord; your life is fleeting away!
Kuhu Naanuk har bhuj munaa a(n)th sehaaee hoe ||32||
Says Nanak, vibrate, and MEDITATE on the Lord; He shall be your only Help and Support in the end.

How to stay healthy by being positive and eliminating the negative.
An elderly man went to a hospital for his routine medical check up. When his Blood Pressure was taken, it was 120/80.
The doctor on duty who was awestruck picked up the result and looked at it over and over again for about 10 minutes, and said, “Sir, this is unbelievable! You have an incredible BP.
Does it mean you don’t go through any stress at all? What’s the secret?”
The man smiled and said, “this has been your colleagues’ question overtime. I have always told them that it was a gift from God, which is correct in actual sense. But let me tell you what has been making that gift work.
I can’t wait to know the secret, the doctor interjected.
“When I was young, my father taught me that if I want to overcome negative S, I must embrace two positive S.
The doctor who was eager to know those S interrupted him again. What are the negative and positive S, Sir?
“The negative S includes: stress, sickness, sorrow, suffering, etc. My dad said, if I could manage stress, I won’t have much health challenge. I later discovered he was telling me the truth as I embraced his two positive S. The man paused.
I hope no problem, Sir? The doctor asked.
“No problem, doctor. I remembered my glorious dad of a blessed memory. He was a great man, doctor.
“The positive S includes: Smile and Silence. Smile can solve problem and Silence can avoid problems. To achieve this, you must:
“Select the right people to travel with you in your journey of life at all times and make your life sweeter.
“On deity, choose the Almighty God. Thereafter, if you fail to achieve your dreams, change your ways, not your God. The trees change their leaves and not their roots.
“Stop looking Sideways when you are emotionally distracted. You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.
“Sayings of people should not work you up. Even when haters see you walking on water they will say it’s because you can't swim. If you like, dance on the water, they will accuse you of raising dust.
“Start to live a quiet life; mind your own business; and work with your own hands.
“Social cleanliness rule is, never wrestle with a pig. Though, both of you will get dirty, but the pig enjoys it.
“So, knowing all these, I always Smile and keep Silence. That’s the secret!”
“WOW! In my entire life I have never met a man like you. I want to see more of you. Now I know that greater lessons are learnt outside the classroom, the doctor concluded.
Stay blessed and keep counting your blessings
Do have a great journey in life of peace gentility harmony and love.

SSA Guest Jee, welcome.
A1) The point between the 2 eyes you mention while doing simran, is the door which allows us to enter the spiritual realms or dimensions. It is also the gateway to reach our Nijh Ghar, there is a lot into it, unlimited parkash, unlimited dhun, even Waheguru can be met by entering into it, but for that purpose simran is the key. With simran we get our surtee focused at that point, which is very much necessary to pierce the dark veil when we close our eyes.
And you feeling something while there, is a mark of His apaar kirpa on you, so please continue with this your devotion, it is the least we can do respond to His pull.
A2) Trust Him, if He has allowed you to experience of tasting a sip of that bliss, it means there is much more He wants to give you within, so the best thing is not to analyze, just give your "self" to Him, and He Himself will guide and take you further. Just enjoy while being there and stay focused in your simran; with due time and grace, the Shabad Guru within, will Himself guide you within and answer your queries if any, for in the presence of the Shabad Guru, all doubts just vanish away.
Trust Him, have faith in Him and love Him, the more simran you do, the more He is pleased, and the more He is pleased, the more He showers His daya meher, and this pleasing Him, is the secret in spirituaility to achieve our goal of merging in Him.
Stay blessed.

harsharan000 got a reaction from Sikhilove in Amritvela, And Nitnem?
Indeed a very good question.
And although all the posters above have given very good answers, I would like to also add my 2 cents as per the following sacred bachans of Fifth Patshahee in the Bani:
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈ ਜਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
Rain Dhinas This Sadhaa Dhhiaaee J Khin Mehi Sagal Oudhhaarae Jeeo ||3||
Night and day, I always meditate on Him; in an instant, He saves all.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਖੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Anmrith Varakhai Anehadh Baanee ||
The Ambrosial Nectar, the Unstruck Melody of Gurbani rains down continually.
One may ask, why does Guru Jee say that we can meditate on Him anytime be it day and/or night?
And the answer to this question is given by Guru Jee in the second verse above.
Is it not the ambrosial nectar of Amrit what we look forward for? In that sense, He says : The Ambrosial Nectar, the Unstruck Melody of Gurbani rains down continually.
So brother, if that Amrit it rains down continouslly, what wrong is in doing His bandagee or meditation anytime during the day?
Let us be frank and ask ourselves, are we only going to get it, at midnight, or any other specific time?
You see, we deliberately limit ourselves, when Guru Sahiban opens His hands wide, and gracefully showers us with this Amrit 24/7. For, if we missed the chance at some time, why not try to get that spiritual wealth as soon as possible again.
Why wait for a specific time?
Who knows, that by postponing, we may be alive or not by then.
Why to take any risks?
That also when He gives us total freedom to amass the spiritual wealth as much as possible without limitations.
True, ideal, and perfect is that very moment/time, which we try to meditate on that supreme Truth, all else is time wasted.
Stay blessed.

Before you do anything else, I would suggest you do a ardass on your own, from you heart. Wake up early before sunrise, take a full shower, and do path if you want. Then do the ardass/confession and ask for forgiveness from Guru. You can do it at home.
I had something similar last year, where I was feeling really guilty and wanted to take amrit again. I asked people around, nothing really helped, but then I just did ardass at home from my heart, let it all out, and that immediately changed everything.

Baba Ji agge ardas karo oh aape rasta dikhaun ge. Guru is Meharwan.
And yes try to find Nanaksar nearby.
But Kaam is a very tricky one, even after pesh it can wreak havoc. So you have to make your mind Pakka. Even after years old feelings can pop-up, so you have to be really sure.

harsharan000 reacted to Soulfinder in Chairs and Tables in Langar
Good subject you have mentioned as in uk england london i have seen many gurdwaras where they have langar on tables and chairs whilst people are wearing their shoes in the langar hall. It doesn't have the same feeling compared to having langar sitting on floor on carpet with crossed legs. Although if person is not healthy or has health problems then its ok to use chairs table but the shoes are a big no from me.
Here is a really good viewpoint i found on the subject mentioned

Sitting on the floor to eat is also a sign of humility. Servants eat on the floor in their masters house. Not on the tables.

Jitsingh Ji,
you may read the phonetics which come with the english translation.
The tranlation is to understand what one is reciting, but the phonetic will be the nearest to the gurmukhi pronounciation, so try the phonetics. And also to improve to an extent, try to get some audios of what you would like to read, so you see how it is pronounced, which with practice will definetely improve your present condition. You will derive bliss, rus, from the Bani.
One may be following or not following some guide, teacher or mentor, the main thing which is required is purity, is sharda, and selfless devotion to Waheguru.
This is essential, no matter how much paapi we could have been in the past, and yet we have a sincere desire to meet Him, to have His Darshan; then with a pure mind, and selfless devotion or call it niskam seva, we can invoke and become receptive to His grace, His kirpa upon us, which is the main factor for being pulled towards Him
The Bani clearly says: Jap mun Satnam, sadaa Satnam.
Gurbani tells us what to meditate upon, but to meditate upon the most immaculate, we ourselves need to stop all our negativity, our wickedness, our vikars, in order to get pulled towards Him, for a rusted piece of irion, no matter how much near it could placed to a strong magnet, it will hardly get attracted towards it.
So the first step in spirituality is purity, we can not just intend to progress spiritually until we first become good human beings, good hearted, without any malice, any wickedness...
Our intentions sholud be reflected in our actions, for if we are to merge in that Being who is an infinite ocean of virtues, of goodness, we have to start becoming good/noble/pure, right here.
Stay blessed.

Hello,
Is it ok to read the english translation of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji for the Sehaj path? Also do you know of any english translations of Ardaas and Hukamnama ?
I am looking for the authoritive online version , does anyone know where this is?
Finally, is there a text that teaches or describes the method of meditation, where one goes beyond the three gunas and enters this higher state of consciousness within your self? Do you need a guide or need to be initiated?
Thanks JG
