    Totally agree.
Because there is no one single definition to describe naam, shabad and naad,.. they are sometimes used interchangeably.
You have to experience it for yourself and you will know when ''Naam'' begins to get pargat and then how you start getting attuned to it.
A simple way of helping yourself to understand it is to think of the naad, shabad, oung....as being a vibration- just like everything else in the Universe.
As per physics; we know that to graph a vibrational wave with peaks and troughs, there is always some source or origin where it begins or originates from.....and if we eliminate this source of origin, then the vibrational wave ceases to exist.
A wave of vibration, as we understand is also what connects the source of origin to the receiver/perceiver.
....bearing this mind, I like to think of -
-Naam as being the source of origin... or the infinite/unknown. aad jugadh, ajuni source
-Naad or shabad as being the vibrational wave that is active in all of creation.... this is analogous to a sound wave, but not like the one's on this physical plane where they diminish in amplitude over a distance. The NAAM is continuous and is not affected by any resistive forces.
As per anand sahib....'Naam jin kai mann vasia, vajey shabad ganerey''....... the Naam becomes pargat or manifests when one hears/feels the shabad vibrating within the mind. This goes on 24/7. If it's not 24/7, then it is not pargat yet.
We could also say that one begins to get taste and feel this naam state of mind by connecting with the shabad/naad

Getting back to the OP question
    ''Is Naam the Anhad Naad?"......
Well, anhad naad is a form of the naam or a manner in which one experiences naam. Strictly speaking, it's impossible to configure or describe in words unless one begins to experience it through naam kamayee. And all abyasees will tell you the same.
You will also understand that Naam is not something that can be initiated by master whispering into initiates ear.. .as sometimes understood by some Naam is also not inured or obtained in amrit sanchar either
We have to earn all of these with free will and efforts (Kamayee)

Sat1176 got a reaction from Kaur10 in The Ringing Sound (Anhad Shabad; Sound Current)
    Singh,

As one does more and more naam simran the mind becomes still and he hears these sounds naturally or sometimes spontaneously. Don't stop your bhagti whatever you are doing and start looking for sounds. This post is designed more for those who might already be hearing such sounds. I found quite a lot of information on what these sounds are but not what you do with them. This was the first text I read where someone explained possibly a next step on the journey. How to move from one sound to the next. Where you can hear the sounds and where to focus. Was interesting the guy said focus on the swirl of the head because I always thought it was the top.

I personally am doing so much research on these sounds because I'm hearing this stuff quite alot at night and I haven't got the foggiest idea what it means or what to do when it happens apart from listen. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a massive vibration in my ear that gives me such a shock as if someone has put a speaker to my ear. It was nice to just read that these sounds can be perceived to be near and far. Now noted that they can even cause vibrations in you.. Its all a learning game for us.

    Lucky,

I've posted the main juice from the book but I recommend you buy it and have a quick read yourself. I don't want to type up everything it said. There is quite a bit of padding but there are useful bits of information too.

I thought I would share some key points made in a book I read recently. Some of you might find the information contained within useful in your own personal spiritual journey's. Enjoy...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Ringing-Sound-Introduction-Current/dp/0966535804/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390990288&sr=8-1&keywords=the+ringing+sound
Do you Hear Ringing in Your ears?
If you said yes, you are not alone. Millions and millions of people have sought medical advice hoping to find an answer to the ringing in their ears, only to find there is nothing that medical science can do for them. They are told they suffer from tinnitus or similar maladies.
Although these buzzing, ringing, rushing sounds have been given new names by medical science, they are not new. They are perhaps as old as humankind. In the past, a great deal was written and taught about how to use these sounds productively. Techniques associated with the inner sounds involve the development of internal energy or what may be called spiritual power. Modern practitioners of such techniques often refer to these sounds as the sound current.
Sound current techniques also hold great potential for the expansion of consciousness. To reach into the sound current’s mysteries is to begin a personal adventure of self-discovery.
    What does it sound like?
The auditory perceptions we have been referring to may be perceived in many ways. Commonly, they take the form of ringing sounds. They may be perceived as anything from a ringing, or buzzing (like the sound of a florescent light), to music. A common analogy likens the experience to that of listening to high-tension electric power lines. Anyone who has stood near one of the colossal Erector Set-style metal towers with suspended power lines, especially when the air is moist knows the crackly hissing noise.
Please do not be discouraged if you do not relate to the current descriptions. Just because you do not see an exact description of what you hear does not mean that you are not dealing with the sound current. Many other descriptions will follow and still only relatively few of the possible manifestations of the sound current will be explicitly described.
Generally, the “sounds” are first noticed in the right ear, but may be detected anywhere. As we will eventually see, these “sounds” are not sounds at all. The sound current is energy passing through an energy channel near the ear. It is only interpreted as sound.
The list below describes the various ways in which the sound current may be perceived is to catalogue them and give examples.
The first list is from a classic yoga book. It describes some of the more common ways in which the sound current may be perceived. Each description is preceded by its Sanskrit name
    1. Cin nadam : Like the hum of the honey-intoxicated bees; idling engine vibration; rainfall; whistling sounds; high frequency sound.
    2. Cincin nadam : Waterfall, roaring of an ocean
    3. Ghanta nadam : Sound of a bell ringing.
    4. Sankha nadam : Sound of a conch shell
    5. Tantri vina : Nasal sound, humming sound like that of wire string instrument.
    6. Tala nadam : Sound of small tight drum.
    7. Venu nadam : Sound of a flute.
    8. Mridamga : Sound of a big brass drum
    9. Bheri nadam : Echoing sound
    10. Megha nadam : Roll of distant thunder.
Additional common descriptions would include the chirping of cricket(s) or boiling teakettle whistling. Flowing water or wind are also common descriptions. These sounds can be of a high frequency, like florescent or halogen light, or of a very low frequency with an undulating or even slowly oscillating palpable physical quality. They may be smooth and harmonious, or very rough and jangly. They may be barely audible or seem more deafening. Often these tones appear just at the edge of hearing or sound very distant. When they seem close and loud, they actually vibrate the physical body.
    When Would I Hear it?
The sound current is most noticeable during periods of high stress or paradoxically, deep relaxation. It may be fair to say that perception of the sound current is most notable when the body’s homeostasis is either highly threatened or highly attuned. Perception of the sound current may be particularly strong under the following circumstances:
Sleep Deprevation Illness or High Fever Influence of Drugs and Alchohol Physical or Emotion Trauma All of the above bulleted items relate to altered states of consciousness. They also represent potentially dangerous situations for the physical body. None of these is advised for inducing perception of the sound current. Aside from the obvious dangers of employing such methods, there is an inherent distortion of the natural experience associated with the stress created by such methods. Consequently the psyche cannot interpret the resulting perceptions well. The quality of subsequent experiences is also compromised by the body’s attempt to recover from the onslaught of imbalanced energy.
The sound current can be explored in its positive aspects through quiet inner stillness or focused energy technique. The following practices are recommended for enhancing perception of the sound current and personal vitality in general:
Deep Relaxation Techniques (Yoga) Certain Types of Breath work Shabad Surat Yoga Exercise : Playing with the Sound Current
Sitting quietly and comfortably with your eyes closed; listen to the sound curernt’s tones. Locate where the tones appear to be within or near your body.
Now isolate a tone on the right side of your head. If one is not there then simply intend to find one. Play with the sound by smoothing its vibrations or raising its pitch by gently reaching into it and intending a harmonious result.
Once you have a nice clean tone, see if you can move it to your crown chakra, or hair swirl. Listen to this chakra tone for a few minutes with a quiet mind. Observe yourself and you sound current carefully as you listen.
    Changing Tones
In sound current mediation techniques, these sounds maybe modulated to produce desired states of conscious awareness. Specific states are associated with certain tones. Knowing a tone allows one to summon a specific related state of awareness.
    Seeing the Sound Current
Many people receive light impressions while perceiving the sound current. Close your eyes. Imagine you are inside your head looking at the inside of your forehead, just above and between your eyes. From that place listen to the sound current and observe. Do not judge.
    Receiving the Sound Current
Most people do not consciously perceive the sound current. It is filtered out on a subconscious level. As an example of how it happens, listen to a spiral seashell. The white noise it produces is an amplification of the sound of moving air. A similar noise occurs in your own ears. It is always there, but you do no hear it. The reason you are not aware of its presence is that your brain does no consider it critical to your physical well-being, since is does not require conscious attention or action. The information is regarded as non-threatening, monotonous, background noise. It is considered superfluous and is there fore disregarded. It never reached you on a conscious level.
But if a strong wind picks up, then that is a survival issue. Your brain is interested in threatening weather conditions. Suddenly, you hear the sound of moving air very well, because it is above normal background limits. But when our systems are running within normal tolerances, background information is not reported to the conscious mind.
    Exercise : Shifting Awareness
Sitting comfortably, lightly touch your forehead just above and between the eyebrows. This is called the “third eye chakra”. With your eyes closed move your awareness to that point. Allow several seconds to get a feel of being there. Now, move your hand to the back of your head. Touch lightly on the knob of the back of your head, which is opposite your third eye chakra. This new area is called the “willpower” because it is the source of your personal will. With eyes closes, send your awareness to this new point. Get a feel of being there. Next repeat this exercise without your finger, using only your awareness. Then move your awareness to the center of your head. From there, move back in you head until you find a natural resting place for your awareness. This will be the place from which you will do your beginning meditation techniques.
Exercise : Listening to the Sound Current
Mantra meditation is the foundation of sound current meditation. When you are comfortable with that technique, it is time to add the sound current.
The sound current is usually noticed first in the right ear. Right-side tones lead up to the higher awareness. This is the easiest and most secure way to begin. Simply listen for the sound in, or near the right side of the head.
In time, you will hear buzzing, ringing or roaring sounds. They may come as a feeling or vibration more than hearing. You may perceive the sound current as light. As you listen, you will become more connected with the sound current. It may seem familiar, like something you remember from a long time ago. You may hear many other tones. Listen to the highest, finest vibrating tone. Gently monitor your impressions. Listen to your own inner knowing. Be your own guide.
Exercise : Following the Sound Current
Once you are comfortable with mantra mediation and listening to the sound current, you can begin playing in the tones. Essentially the procedure is to begin with mantra mediation to quiet the mind and enter into a higher state of awareness. When you hear then sound current, begin listening for the higher, finer tones on your right side.
When you are listening to a tone on your right side, it may be you hear another higher, finer tone further to the right. Move your attention to that tone. It will lead you to higher fields of awareness that constitute greater realms of energy and wisdom in the Cosmos and in your own being. Remember the journey moves simultaneously into inner and outer worlds as you follow the sound current up and back to the right.
During the process you usually lose track of your mantra. You are then using the sound current as your mantra.
    Currents of Sound
The sound current is like two rivers of energy. One flows down to the manifestation. That is the left-hand side. The other flows upward, back to its Source. Perceived as a distance, these rivers are shinning ribbons of light. As your awareness draws closer you being to hear the sounds of rushing waters. You can sit by the river’s edge and be soothed and enlightened by the sounds of dancing cataracts. Or you may enter into the stream. There you will be transported. Your Inner Awareness determines the final destination. The ideal path is to learn at the river’s edge until your conscious becomes familiar with the flow. Simply listen at first. Then you can enter. All this is directed by your intent. Proceed like you know how. On some level you do. Spirit will acknowledge you intent and guide you.
Exercise : Entering the Sound Current
Enter the sound current is accomplished by choice, or intent. Focus your attention into it rather than on it. This a bold manoeuvre. It can sweep your consciousness away. The securest method is to maintain the focus of your consciousness on the crown of your head. This crown chakra is located at your hair swirl just behind the top of the head.
Allow your spiritual sight to follow the sound current. Think of it as a flying portion of your awareness by remote control from your crown chakra. When your session is complete, return your all thoughts to your physical body.
    What should I expect?
Good question. The answer is limitless. Expect a quiet, peaceful mind, which remains with you longer and longer throughout the day as you practice. A sense of inner centering will grow. From that place of Inner Silence in your Self, you will be able to flow more easily in all realities and situations including daily life.
You may see other beings, other worlds, or manifest any number of psychic experiences. These are the worlds of the mystics. Humans are powerful beings. You are in charge. Always use your best judgement. Take command when required. You may call upon your own inner higher awareness for guidance. Be reverent of everything, but do not be overly impressed by anything. Do not be afraid. Listen to your feelings. You are connected to all things. In a very real sense, you are the center of your world. In that place, you are more powerful than anything you meet in mediation. Trust your inner Self. Spirit will guide you.
    Final note
I have studied with many master teachers. Much of the information I have been exposed to was considered too potent for the general public. All the secret and popularized practices I have studied, and all the other energy techniques with which I am familiar, pale in comparison to sound current techniques.
There is power, wisdom, awareness and great mystery in the sound current. Listening to the sound current will help you become aware of the awareness of the Cosmos. It will bring Self-Awareness. Listening to the sound current is becoming aware of awareness Itself.

One thing I noticed was all the videos had been cut when it came to an actual exercise. I have found some audio recordings of the actual workshops.

Loads of helpful tips here and the Q&A at the end was very enlightening.

    Topics:
What point is he actually referring to when he says sit behind the eyes? It's right back between the intersection between the ears and the centre of the eyes. It is not sitting just behind the eyes towards the front like most people do.
Navigating the lower practice sounds to reach the pulling sound.
Staying put in the center when encountering sounds, visions of colours, stars etc. Not to move towards the lights.
There is a walkthrough of a actual meditation session.

Sat1176 reacted to harsharan000 in Purpose of Amrit
As per the title of this thread "Purpose of Amrit", das would like to share some bachans of Dhan Dhan Guru Amar Das Maharaj, in Raag Maajh :

amrit naam man vasaa-ay, ha-umai mayraa sabh dukh gavaa-ay.
Enshrining the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, in the mind,
all the pains of egotism, selfishness and conceit are eliminated.

In the very first begining, He tells us that: Nam Simran is a type of Amrit, which if enshrined in the mind, means to reach a stage by saas saas Simran, in which, the Simran goes rom rom within us, and the result is, that, our mind gets purified to an extent, thus we experiment a change in our behaviour. Our haume, me, mine, ego, greed, selfishness, desires, 5 vikars, are substituted by the followwing virtues: humility, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, detachment / vairag, and above all devotion for His Lotus Feet.

All our pains and sins are due to our misbehaviour as beasts, rather than as godly human beings. So here, Guru Jee is telling us that by drinking the Amrit of Nam Simran, we loose our chains with the perishable world, and tighten our relation, dhoree, with Wahiguru

This is the first step in ruhaniyat or parmarath.

    Then He tells us :
amrit banee sadaa salaahay amrit amrit paavni-aa.
By continually praising the Ambrosial Bani of the Word, I obtain the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar.

Here He is telling us, that, by continuos praising the Ambrosial Bani of the Word, which means, continous, incessant parctice of Nam Simran, means, we have done the jugtee of Nam simran with such faith, love and devotion, that our mind is subdued, the deewar, the curtain between us and Wahiguru, has been torn off, and so, I obtain the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar.

Now, we may ask, If Nam Simran is a type of Amrit as said above, which Amrit is now referring to, Dhan Guru Amar Das, which is produced by Nam Simran?

Well, to this question, once again He himself gives us the answer in the following line:

    amrit sabad, amrit har banee.
The Shabad is Amrit; the Lord's Bani is Amrit.

Here, He tells us that, the Shabad, the Sound current is the Amrit.

By His utter Grace, Guru Jee is telling us, how to produce or get the real Amrit.

First of all, He said, doing Nam Simran is a type of Amrit, but the real Amrit is the Shabad, and if Amrit is Shabad, is the celestial Bani resounding within us nonstop, means that, Nam Simran, purifies us that much, that we start to listen the Shabad Dhun. Listening to this Shabad Dun within us, is according to our Guru Sahibans, the drinking of the real Amrit within us.

By listening to this Shabad, or drinking the Amrit, our sins, or karmas are all wiped away. Sachay Patshah Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj, reffering to it, says in Japji Sahib: Suniye, paap dukh ka naas. Listen to it and all your pains and sins shall be destryed, means come to an end, thus no more cycle of births and deaths.

The same is said by Guru Amar Das below.
amrit banee si-o chit laa-ay amrit sabad vajaavani-aa.
Those who focus their consciousness on the Ambrosial Bani of the Word(Nam Simran), hear the vibrations of the Ambrosial Word of the Shabad.

Now, after this short veechar, we have seen how is this Amrit produced ,and where to look for it, but still one may ask: who can have this Amrit ?

For that our question, Guru Jee clears our horizons:
one can not get it by copying others, neither by any of our tricks, nor by force, but, only by His Daya meher, His Grace, by His Mauj.

tayray bhaanay vich amrit vasai toon bhaanai, amrit pee-aavni-aa.
In Your Sweet Will, the Amrit is found; by Your Will, You inspire us to drink in this Amrit.

This means, we may put any amount of errforts, but only those whom He wants to call back to Him, do this type of Gurbhakti, devotion according to the Bani, the rest will wander in the chaurasee, with their manmat.

Nevertheless for the mean time, we may read the Bani and follow it implicitly, remain in Sadh Sangat, do seva with mind, body and with our surtee, try to defeat the mind and throw away all our bad vices and replace them with godly virtues, thus make us fit in His eyes, that He may shower upon us His Daya Meher, and make us worthy to do the right devotion as per the Bani, and be such wadbhagees, that one day we may also drink His Amrit, by His will ( hukmay amrit pee-aavni-aa)..

    Sat Sree Akal.
    May God bless all.

Simran or repetition of Wahiguru, is done by the mind or with attention, at different levels of energy or consciousness.

As said previously, it is solely done, to be able to concentrate our attention and enter the finer realms and get certain purification also.

    And that´s it.

It can not take one farther, as it is done within the gross or mental planes.

Because it is the mind which needs to get purified.

The body as we know, is insentient or inert, so it does not get anything to do with it, only as much as only to cooperate with the mind in the right and a relaxed manner, so it can stay without moving as long as possible.

The soul does not do the repetition nor simran. The soul is pure by nature, it is same as in essence as Wahiguru Akal Purukh.
Other thing is, that, it is covered with dirt and filth by the different subtle layers due to the collection of it, since aeons, since it left it´s Father´s House( Sach Khand) and came in association and influence of mind and maya ....to the extent, that the soul has forgotten it´s true nature, so it does nothing to regain it´s True self, and merge in Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

And so, this cleaning is done at two levels. Firstly at the lower or mental level, the mind gets purified with the simran, then secondly, ath e higher level in the causal plane, which is storehouse of all our karmas and these can be only wiped, with the Amrit or Shabad Dhun at that level. And the consequence of this cleaning and purification, allows us to cross and reach Parbraham, and from there on, by mounting the vehicle of Nam or Shabad, the soul reaches the True region, Sach Khand, which is beyond any dissolutions)Parlay) and grand dissolutions(maha parlay).

Once reaching there, the soul in the vehicle of Nam, gets the Darshan of Sat Purukh or Satnam, and becomes one, by the Grace and Mercy of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, by getting dissolved in that Sat Shabad.

So, we must always keep in mind, Wahiguru is a Nirankar Conscious Energy(Shabad).

So we too, if it is His Hukum, we shall blend in Him, just as He is.

We should not think, that by reaching there in Sach Khand, we shall see our Guru Sahibans or the different Bhagats or Gurmukhs....

    No.

The Bani says, Sach Khand vaseh Nirankar. This means, only He is there. This Conscious Energy or Shabad, when descended at the lower planes, assumed the human form to let us know about Him, and when our Guru Sahibans left this plane, again they merged back into that Satnam Samundar, becoming one.

Let us say, if a drop of water falls into an ocean, can we trace it?

    No, isn´t it?

The drop was a drop, as long as it was in a container. Once it falls or gets into the ocean, it no longer is a drop, which was an illusion of form, size and colour, due to its separation from it´s Origin and being in a container ( different bodies : physical, astral or causal )

So if we go to see, in the end, in this process of our union with Him, it is nothing to our credit, but it is only the mahima of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, Nam, Shabad, Anhad Bani, or Sound Current ....

And for that very reason, we should never ever underestimate any sound we may hear in the begining. Our purification and the ability to catch hold of the purer sounds goes hand by hand.

The more our purity, the finer(subtler) the sound we listen to, at that stage.

    Sat Sree Akal.
    May God bless all.

Thanks to the members on this form, gyan from Guru Granth Sahib, few other Gurmukhs, reading Sri Guru Nanak Chamatkar book by Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji.
I have also come to realise the Gurmantra/GurShabad should be the most important.

As Lucky said "sounds start to get captivating and magnetic, and they begin to pull you in deeper"

This is also mentioned on another site.
"it is easy for the mind to get over-involved - almost OCD - in listening to inner sounds and trying to determine which is better or "right". In the process, the mind becomes like a dog incessantly chasing its tail. Instead, Charan Singh tells us to simply keep repeating and focusing on Simran. The more your attention is wholly and solely focused upon Simran, the more it will be immersed in the Sound Current - and, in the process, the subordinate sounds will fade into the background and the real, Eternal Sound will emerge into your focus, lift you up above body-consciousness and guide you within"

As it says in Guru Granth Sahib chant the Gurmantra, day and night while standing, sitting, sleeping, eating, walking, working, etc.

Gurmukh said if we can not make our mind sit without taking thoughts for 3 hours then it will be very heard to merge into naam. Therefore, must keep doing simran to make mind sit.

If we take a thought to transition from Gurmantra to Naam then we take a thought which will put us back into Maya, Therefore, make mind so still that when Naam comes it automatically pulls you within without you taking a thought.

Also to add, Gurpreet Shimla Wale in his kirtan/katha mentioned that we are to keep chanting the Gurmantra because it will eventually go into rom rom (heartbeat and cells).

I think that once Gurmantra goes into heartbeat, then one is able to listen to the Naad. It says in Guru Granth Sahib Ji "the Sound-current of the Naad vibrates in each and every heart".

If I made any mistakes, forgive me, I too am still learning on this path.
Man tan antari Hari Hari Mant. Nanak bhagtan kai ghar sadaa anand: The Mantra of God's Name, Har, Har, is deep Within my mind and body. O Nanak, eternal bliss fills the home of God's devotees (sggs 802). Raam Naam Mant hirdai daivai Nanak milan subhaaye: The Mantra of the Raam Naam is enshrined Within the heart, O Nanak, and we merge with Him so easily (sggs 444).

    You devil

    Does she meditate now?

Totally, I initially noticed it when I would wake up doing simran sometimes or I wake up and its so peaceful and effortless. I tend to sing simran and do meditation on the body in formal sittings, so it's usually the latter, where my body is super relaxed and I can feel all of it.
Then a couple years later, I started having dreams where I would go into a meditation inside the dream and my dhyan would be fixated while I was still dreaming.
Then recently, I found myself waking up in the middle of the night and there was just blackness and this really loud horn, almost machine-like sound ZUUURRRRRR. Very strange. I found myself in a state of dhyan and slowly coming out of it. I noticed that my breath was completely out of whack. I was trying to breathe to keep it going and in doing so I lost the state.

    Pen Jee,
thanks for such an inspiring and natural post; but if allowed I would like to share some points along :

The brain may be the receptor and decipher the electrical signals received, and is useful when there is body ....

But what about, when one deceases, and there is no physical body with its organs?

The thing is , the mind receives information through the senses and the physical organs. And all this, is limited between the material parameters.

Saints tell us, that the soul has the faculty to see, which is called "nirat", and the faculty to listen, which is called "surat".

Christ also referring to this topic says in the Bible: having eyes yee see not, having ears yee hear not.

Sachay Patshah Dhan Guru Angad Dev Maharaj also, tells us something on this Sound listening and seeing, in His pure paviter Bani of Raag Majh:

    ਅਖੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕੰਨਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ
Akhee Baajhahu Vaekhanaa Vin Kannaa Sunanaa
    अखी बाझहु वेखणा विणु कंना सुनणा
    To see without eyes; to hear without ears;

Here He is telling us, that, that power of Truth, of Shabad or Naam which is within us, is reverberating all the 24 hours, which can be seen and listened to, and for that, we do not need these physical eyes nor these physical ears. So what He is saying is, that Primal Sound or Shabad, has existed right from the very begining, and is the source and origin of everything seen or unseen.

Christ also says in the Bible: In the begining was the Word(Shabad), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....

Now most of us can not listen or see the reulgence of that Shabad within, and that is because, our minds are filled with the filth of karmas, desires, revenges, anger, hatred, falsehood ...... but that does not mean, that the Shabad of which our Guru Sahibans and all the true Gurmukhs or Bhagats talk about, is something a product of their imagination.

    Nay.

It is their very interaction and experience with that ultimate and Supreme Truth, known as Shabad, Anhad Bani, Amrit Bani, Naam ..... different words have been used by different Lovers of God, at different places and times, but all do refer to the same Power

    ਪੈਰਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਚਲਣਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਹਥਾ ਕਰਣਾ
Pairaa Baajhahu Chalanaa Vin Hathhaa Karanaa
    पैरा बाझहु चलणा विणु हथा करणा
    To walk without feet; to work without hands;

    ਜੀਭੈ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਇਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਣਾ
Jeebhai Baajhahu Bolanaa Eio Jeevath Maranaa
    जीभै बाझहु बोलणा इउ जीवत मरणा
To speak without a tongue-like this, one remains dead while yet alive.

In the above 2 lines, Satguru Jee is telling us, that not only can the soul see and listen without physical eyes and ears, but it can move and fly also, without any feet nor hands to work.
Naturally all these references by Guru Jee, are of the spiritual aspects of the soul alone, not of the body...

Now we may ask, what is the work of the soul which Guru Jee refers to?

Well, He clearly refers to the work of devotion, of bhagtee of Wahiguru ....

In which, one need not do anything such as rituals, customs, idol worship, etc(outer practices), in order to have the Darshan of the Jot of Wahiguru, and listen to the divine melodies emananting from that Shabad .....

But that much, as, His bhajan bandagee

Further on He reveals us some secrets for one´s spiritual progress and achievements, that, one need not the tongue to recite nor read anything in performing His devotion, but to do His Naam Simran with concentrated attention, in order to gather our dispersed consciousness throughout the nine portals of the body, and enter the spiritual realms, and there with the aid and guidance of Naam, through its Light and Sound, return back to our Nijh Ghar Sach Khand.

That is why the Bani says: Shabad Guru, Surat Dhun chela. The Shabad is our True Guru, and the disciples/ sikhs or chelas are our souls.

Sat1176 got a reaction from zereraz in The Ringing Sound (Anhad Shabad; Sound Current)
Listening to the sound current is becoming aware of awareness Itself.

mayghai no furmaan ho-aa varsahu kirpaa Dhaar.

In the Hans Upanishad, where there is the mention of Anhad Shabad (unstruck melody), it is written:

[One who does japa of the Hans Mantra (Hamsa, Hansa, Sohum, So Ham, or So Hum.), millions of times, comes to the realization of Nad. It is also stated that Nad consists of ten different types of melodies, nine of which are to be passed over, and the tenth, which resembles the sound of the thunder of distant clouds, is to be meditated upon and practiced, for It takes one to Par-Brahm.] - from my own notes and not from the book.

Chatka on hearing which all hair stand on ends Punn Punn Chann Chann on hearing all the limbs of the body are in bloom Bell on hearing mind and intellect are filled with love Conch on hearing which, ones head begins to whirl like that of an intoxicated person. Sound (note) of the harp by concentrating ones consciousness on that one feels surpreme bliss and nector seems to rain from the divine hole (top of the head). Nirakarai one feels Amrit nector in ones throat. Flute sweet note which fills every fibre of ones body with sweetness, no trace of disturbance of consciousness. Begin to get spiritual powers Pakhavaj One achieves the power to feel the musical phenomenon which is operating in ones body or that which a seeker hears within himself and begins to know its meaning. Small nafiri (energy) one is saturated with energy to the full and one acquires extremely strong power. One acquires the power to reach any place one desires physcailly or mentally. Invisibility Cloud on hearing which one sees the divine face to face.
What is commonly called the Anhad Shabad (The Divine Word, unstruck music) is the sum total of the five sounds

    The five sounds are -
Tata - Sound of vibrating Strings Vitu The sound produced by percussion on a stretched lether or membrane Ghan The sound produced by striking solid broze metal Nad The sound produced by thundering clouds Shishur or Shikar - The sound produced by blowing wind (breath) through holes

What type of devotion, pleases Wahiguru?

Almost all mankind is engaged in some or other types of devotions. But have we ever thought, or asked ourselves, among all devotions, which one is the most pleasing to Him?

Well, almost each one if asked, will give an answer according to its level of consciousness. But if we want to the truth of this question, then we must ask someone who is the emodiment of the highest devotion, because only that type of devotion, will make us fit to reach His abode, and merge in Him. And this answer is seen below in the words of Dhan Dhan Satguru Ram Das Maharaj.

Because only the right devotion will make possible our merging in Him and become one with Him.

In Sach Khand, nobody goes to keep its individual identity, there only Nirankar exists.

So naturally if only He exists there, how come we can think even otherwise, that there are large crowds of different souls, or Gurmukhs, Guru Sahibans, Sant Janas...etc.

That is not the purpose of Akal Purukh.

These individual identities may exist in the planes below Braham, like for example in the hindu gods/godesses , or our baseless beliefs, that our heros are there, or even the present or future heros shall go there ...that is not Gurmat.

There only He alone exists. Satnam samunder. If any drop reaches there through the river, both, the river and the drop of water become the ocean. That is His mahanta.

So going back to the type of devotion which pleases Him, it is quite clear in the following words of Sree Guru Ram Das Maharaj:

    ਿਜਨ ਕੀ ਭਗਿਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰ੍ਭ ਭਾਈ
    िजन की भगित मेरे पर्भ भाई
jin kee bhagat mayray parabh bhaa-ee.
Those whose devotional worship is pleasing to my God -
    ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਿਲਵ ਲਾਈ
    ते जन नानक राम नाम िलव लाई
tay jan naanak raam naam liv laa-ee.
O Nanak, those humble beings center their minds lovingly on the Lord's Name

He is telling us, that those who center their minds lovingly on Him, through His Nam Simran, is the one devotion which pleases Him.
And by pleasing Him, we are begging him to shower His unlimited Daya Meher on us, which ultimately is the means of union with him, and not at all our feeble efforts.

So if we have even 1 gram of common sense, Gurmat has very clearly kept the teachings in front of us, it is our responsibility to act accordingly, otherwise we know the wheel of eighty four is already there waiting, for those who misuse the human opportunity, and do not do the right devotion and merge in Him.

It is also stated that Nad consists of ten different types of melodies, nine of which are to be passed over, and the tenth, which resembles the sound of the thunder of distant clouds, is to be meditated upon and practiced, for It takes one to Par-Brahm.] - from my own notes and not from the book.

Lucky, the depths of your questions are reaching a point that I'm not sure I'm the best person to advise because I'm also at shallow depths like yourself. I don't want to give you any wrong advice. I would highly recommend you consult with someone who might be able to direct you who has more experience.

I will say this though bro, that I was sitting in the presence of another mahapursh a couple of days ago. He said in the advanced stage you see the parkash of Brahm everywhere you look. When that stage is reached no more jaap, simran takes place. You do seva of waheguru with the eyes.

From the little knowledge I have my understanding of these stages are

    1) Listen to verbal jaap of waheguru
    2) Listen to mental jaap of waheguru with swas swas
    3) Listen to Anhad shabads (5 shabads) which takes you deeper within
    4) Listen to Anhad naad/toor (single tone) which takes you even more deeper
    5) Look at the Brahm jot, when it manifests. What it looks like I have no idea.

I also find it difficult to focus on the anhad shabads, and yes they also fade sometimes when I too put my dhyan on them. If that happens I take a step back and move to the previous step.

What has been described as the primal sound is actually the Shabad (Divine Word). This is called the Anhad Nad the unstruck melody which is produced in the body without effort of the individual self and by the spontaneous vibrance of the vital airs (life breath) with the ether.

I have made the fourteen worlds the furnace, and I have burnt my body with the fire of God.

The line before might be translated wrong because the manipur chakra is said to have 10 petals.
"Bhatee" means Bellows - 1.a device with an air bag that emits a stream of air when squeezed together.
    2. an object or device with concertinaed sides to allow it to expand and contract, such as a tube joining a lens to a camera body.

Therefore I'm concluding slight pump of the navel is said to invoke Barahm agan.

Chatur could also be a pointer to lower mooladhar chakar which is said to have 4 petals.

Only thing missing now is the sahj dhun!

Many thanks Truthseeker for sharing this gem recording. Was very interesting to hear sant ji also explaining the importance of sukhmana jaap. His technique was to keep doing the jaap until the breath naturally comes to the spot or monument in time when your breathing between both left/Ida and right/pinguala. At that centre breathing time your Surat will connect more with the shabad. Waheguru

As for the pataka/burst sound, I not sure what to say as I'm kind of left speechless at this moment in time. It's very reassuring to hear from numerous sources that it does happen on the path. I didn't appreciate it at the time and on the contrary thought something was very wrong with me. May Waheguru ji forever keep us all on the correct path all the way till we reach his lotus feet.

Dhan hai the sangat of this forum as we are all helping each other understand and progress further ahead. Waheguru di kirpa on you all.
