Giani Gian Singh is Twarikh Guru Khalsa makes this claim as well. I have heard Sant Gurbachan Singh paraphrase this idea of Giani Gian Singhs in his katha but he didn't say what he beleived himslef.

Sikh khoj should be able to tell us where Gurbachan Singh said this.

A Sikh book? No. I'm interested in getting older Sikh manuscripts and granths translated.
But perhaps if we did it separately it might be better. You see, I'm a thicko, and your superior knowledge is shining through your posts, and I feel I would only be holding you back.

Good point. Just as we do sometimes repeat information that we believe to be true, even though there may be no way of verifying it, it doesn't mean we are telling lies. It's a shame that sikh khoj is the way he is.

I have heard what paapiman has said above a few times, but wasn't sure about it's source. But whilst having look at Gubilas 10 by Bhai Koer Singh to see what he writes about historic vaisakhi day I found this in there.
If you know what the sources say why make the flippant remark about brahm gianis having visions?
However, after looking at Gurbilas 10 by Bhai Koer Singh, the above is written about the 5 Pyare being avtars. You know what the sources say SikhKhoj, why didn't you say so? lol at your "i know what the sources say".
Koer Singh has also written that Guru Ji made a call to the sangat asking for a head.

I don't think the beheading is under discussion here. It's about whther Guru Ji selected 5 from the sangat or whether 5 offered themselves. I cannot see 5 sikhs being selected in the formal manner that sikh khoj is presenting. This was supposed to be a test. If the selection was already made, it kind of negates that . Bhangu's words literally can be taken to assume that Guru Gobind Singh had selected 5 from the sangat but it just doesn't seem plausible.
I will have a look at Gurbilas 10 to see if Bhai Koer Singh has mentioned it.

Maybe there is, but there's also a difference between tyar bar tyat and being taken by surprise.
chaant also means to separate. In panjabi we use chon and chun for selection assuming you come from the same region of panjab as me. I will look more into this anyway.

I think the focus on writing that is more on AMRIT raising from from meekness darpokta to a Khalsa, rather than a Sikh being such and such.
tyar bar tyar means ready for everything. but that doesnt mean that  a person cannot be taken by surprise. i have already written this above. I hope you understand it this time.

Bhangu says " Panj Bhujangi lae uthaie" The english translation is given as "By selecting 5 youths..."
I would say "uthaie " here is more like "raised" which is the correct word for uthaie.
"He raised 5 youths of different varnas..."
The english translation of Panth Parkash is a bit weak in places.  (as is sikhi to the max )
"Selected" definitely seems to be out of place here.

This is what i would go with.
if a warrior has come to a religious gathering he can still be taken aback by a sudden call for a head. I don't know what you vision of tyar bar tyar is but i don't think it applies here. Tyar bar tyar means ready for battle but it doesn't mean in any way whatsoever that a warrior can't be taken by surprise.
Sikhs had been gathering at Vaisakhi for many years before this historic one.

Kuri mar is a different subject altogether Dal. In those situations people have killed or abandoned their daughters because they WERE girls.
Here Surjit wasn't killed because she was a woman. It was her behaviour that sealed the deal.

Families do still cling to that, but the Athwals seemed to think that there was only one approach to rectifying the situation. They should have just asked her parents to collect her because she was pregnant by another man. The shame would have been with her father then rather than the inlaws. Instead they kept the child even though they knew it wasn't theirs.

You are right. gurbani is highly repetitive. Majority of Gurbani is highly repetitive after Mool Mantar. I like to think of Gurbani replicating life. Everyday we repeat the same things, usually in the same order. Gurbani is repetitive like this.

youths are way too weak to become part of the Gurdwara committee system. Replacing shit with shit solves nothing.

One of the biggest reasons for the old timers to be in control, is because they know that the youths are are not able to do anything. Being in a committee is a rollercoaster ride, with many ups and downs, which require a lot of self discipline, broad outlook, and open-mindedness.

You can't blame the oldies, if the goldies aren't upto the job.

I was serious. I can see the connection now, between "sac", I had thought this was testicles (nut-sac) but as the knowledgeable brother has informed us,it actually refers to the amniotic sac. But i did mistake Soonda for doing a wee. D'oh.
Seems quite a long-winded sentence to essentially tell someone "bugger off and leave us alone!" Unless the Brars were going for the vomit-inducing factor.

I may not know about it personally, but the original posters were left with no doubts, and no defence of it was made by those supporting it in the topic that was discussed earlier. So i'm pretty sure that these incidents occured.

We have amongst us an ill-informed member who for the past year had committed the heinous act of doubting her Guru. Reading through some of the older topics here, the same Gurdwara, unless there is more than one in Halifax, Nova Scotia is mentioned. There the "Chaupai Sahib" was banned from being read. And the people who dones are the same cretins who doubt and slander Sri Dasme Patshahs Granth.
It comes as no surprise that this member has has been trying to vomit the same rubbish here.

    Dear Forum,
On this topic, I must provide all with, what I personally regard to be distrubing news, concerning the Benti Chaupai.
The Sikh Maritime Association of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Canada ( being one public face from this area that some maybe familiar with) have courtesy of some edit, a local taxi driver, banned, yes I repeat "Banned" the recitation of Benti Chaupai Sahib.
The reasons behind his move to have this effected is the usual Kala Afghana type argument. I have been made aware of this after friends/family who live near the area/were visiting the Gurdwara discovered this instance.
For me personally this highlights the extent to which this matter of supposed scholarship can take us, we don't need the RSS to eat us up, we're quite capable of doing it ourselves."
    AND:
"Babbersher, the point made is not discussing Kala Afghana, I referenced him, for Mr Randhawa is someone who has brought his basic arguments and sought to stop the recitation of Benti Chaupai.
There are separate threads on the forum for discussing Kala Afghana.
This thread concerned Dasam Granth Parkash and the historical and other reasons as to why it was stopped.
The matter concerning Benti Chaupai recitation at the Maritime Sikh Society was raised since whatever Kala Afghana's arguments and those counter to him, the fact remains that edit himself has no authority whatsoever to stop the recitation of such Bani (an essential part of the Amrit Sanchar) at any Gurdwara -therefore mentioned here as a parallel to continuing changes, innovations and renovations being made within Sikh communal services: perhaps this is the first of many to come, afterall, edit is not even on the board of the Gurdwara Management, he is only a local taxi driver and has been able to make such a dramatic change.
There are more interesting facts about this Gurdwara and their innovations (such as one edit who omits "Kesh Daan" from the Ardas on the reasoning that Kesh are no longer an important part of Sikhi today), I have raised these here for all to note and discuss, whatever your view on the Dasam Granth or otherwise and to highlight the extent to which changes are being made on the ground level (outside of the comfort of the SGPC buildings, and from Kala Afghana's residence in Canada)."

I know Dal. But it may be my achilles heel. I just can't stand anybody being so devious and trying to smear others as being unreasonable. Telling outright lies or twisting things that are said, and I prefer to stay away from them wherever possible. I have been in a gurdwara committee with things like this asatkiran thing, and i gave up humouring them a long time ago.

I think that Panjab being the religion's homeland we will always have a presence there. Politically our strength has definitely waned. We may be achieving more in some western countries politically actually given the recent successes in Canada. Religiously I think Sikhi has the potential to spread more in India outside of Panjab, than in the west

There is another topic on this forum, asking the same question in  "Why Sikhi failed to spread". Maybe you have seen that topic?

I would really like for him to learn shastarvidya, but i think he may be a bit young for some of those techniques. So i have been thinking about Shinkin more.

    Your thoughts please.

Humble namaskar to anyone who helps others. But here in the UK whilest this crises was making headline news, I counted at least 8 muslim tv channels who were supporting the same cause and raising a lot more mone than khalsa aid. There was a case in Pakistan where a sikh girl of 17 was abducted and forced to marry a muslim this year. As of yet she has not returned home. khalsa aid really could have helped that family with moeny for legal representation. We don't make any headway with one or two brownie points.
