Sikhs have just come out of a protracted period of being co-opted in European imperialism which has had devastatingly negative effects on them and their homeland. So don't be surprised if some of us a bit skeptical about Sikhs (male OR female) being co-opted abroad again.
Let me put it in perspective: using your logic I could argue that those Muslims that have fled Europe to fight with ISIS are 'brave'. That doesn't make what they are doing right to me.
Who was more brave - the black guys who fought in Vietnam for the US, or someone like the boxer Muhammad Ali, who didn't but spoke out about structural white racism and refused to participate in it.

When you become focused single-mindedly on the Dhwani of the Jap then you let go of the Dhwani and focus on silence.

Try different things and you'll see where you get the best results.

I get the feeling that 3hrs or 2.5hrs(dasvand) is used as a kind of bench mark because no matter how basic or skilled someone is in simran.....>Even if the beginner on foundation level allocates the dasvand time towards simran, he/she should get at least some moments/seconds/minutes of deep -single thought connection throughout a session.
In effect, there should mostly be some moments of some real dhan kamayee, even if one was sat getting diverted into thoughts of work, bills, household chores..etc. for the most part.
This message is important because I sense that a lot of us just give up and think ''Oh,  I can't do simran,,, I can't ever settle,,,,, my life's too busy.... theres' way too much for me to sort out in my thought process,,,,etc,".
see, my suggestion would be ..".keep trying..and keep making those few hours tor at least a crack at it"
Again, this all boils down to strict self-discipline and goes along with another reason why Guruji bestows rehat.

It happened automatically for me. Eventually the external voice becomes internalised.

Though recently I have begun to feel the need to  occasionally (in a very low voice) verbally say mantar when I jap. By this I mean a few repetitions verbally when the rest of it is internal. I think this happens when I feel .....'intense' for lack of a better description.

Can someone please provide details on how people cast an evil eye? Information from Katha (two different scholars): 1. A child who puts his fecal matter into his mouth, can cast an evil eye. 2. A mother is able to cast an evil eye on her child, especially if she is really happy with him/her. Request - If someone does not believe in this concept, please stay away from this topic or start a new topic on it. Daas is also not interested in listening to opinion of scholars, associated with Missionaries. Thanks Bhul chuk maaf

Had a strange experience with the Gurmantar the other day which I don't recall ever happening before. For the last couple of weeks have been trying to make mental effort to get the jaap going again after getting lazy and loosing drive and determination. With Guru's grace am trying to reach the stage of saas - giras a.k.a. autopilot 24x7. When I woke up and was just sitting relaxed for a few moments I noticed that the jaap automatically started happening inside my chest region. It was like my mind was listening to a jap happening there on it's own in the background. To clarify this was not me forcing the mind to jap, but the mind could actively hear another entity japping. It was such a calming, soothing experience and the gurmantar felt so good to listen to. After a short time the gurmatar faded and I got on with the day but still some what taken back by what I had subtlety experienced even if was for a short time.
I was just reading a paper on the meditation path when I came across the following passage which seemed similar to what I may have slightly experienced.
Judging from the above lines it would seem that this may be a natural progression when japping any mantar. Maybe even the onset of Ajapa Japa.

Mantra has been referred to as a boat which carries one to the other shore. When one enters the ocean of the mind as described above, mantra is the boat which helps one journey through the unconscious, on the way to the Self within.
Mantra has by now become the dominant thought in the mind. The thousands of other thoughts are not as strong as they used to be, and the student has learned the skills of letting go and witnessing. With those skills in place, mantra automatically rises to the surface as the dominant thought. There is no battle between thoughts and mantra. The mantra is automatically going on, on its own, repeating itself. One simply “watches” it with attention. The mantra has a leading quality to it. By just paying attention to it, and following it wherever it goes, it will lead us.
This leading quality is very important. To find out where it is trying to lead us, we must follow it. It is trying to take us somewhere. If you internally “say” your mantra, and then stop, you will notice that the feel of it remains and tries to take you somewhere. If you will allow your attention to stay with it, in an inquisitive way, you will find that it carries you to the place of silence. It’s actually going very deep, right to the center of consciousness, but we usually don’t allow it to lead us quite that far. But the point is this: we need to keep following, trying to find the place to which the mantra is trying to lead us. It’s like being in a forest, hearing the sound of an animal in the distant bushes, and then trying to follow that sound until we find the source of it. We just keep listening, paying attention, and following.
Japa is sometimes described as the repetition of a mantra. Ajapa japa is sometimes described as the automatic, internal repetition of the mantra. But there is a deeper meaning to ajapa japa. A word Swami Rama often uses when discussing mantra is “remembering” the mantra. And remembering does not mean speaking or talking, whether externally or only in the mind. He explains that one should “listen” to, or “hear” the mantra. One should allow the mantra to “arise and repeat itself.” This means taking a stance of paying attention to the mantra which is already there. He even explains that by mentally repeating the mantra, the mind then repeats many things (which is not how you want to train your mind).
Advertising people are well aware of this principle. They create a catchy tune which a person hears a few times, and then automatically repeats internally. You do not use will power to cause the advertising tune to come up; it’s just there, like it or not. A meditator wants the mantra to arise, rather than the advertising tune. The meditator then wants to then pay attention to that mantra which has arisen. The meditator wants to watch it, listen to it, hear it, feel it, and become completely absorbed in it. It does not require an act of will to cause the mantra to come, to be “repeated.” It is already there. All you have to do is notice it, pay attention to it, and follow it.
A mantra has four bodies, or koshas. Outermost is the word and its meaning; next is feeling, then constant awareness, and finally soundless sound, or silence. The mantra will move past the quality of just being a word and one will experience the feeling associated with the mantra, and a constant awareness, which then guides one towards silence. All sounds, including mantras, arise from silence and go back to silence. This is where the mantra is trying to lead you, if you will allow it to do so.
Sometimes one can think that they are forgetting their mantra when they notice that the syllables start to drift away. What might be happening, is that the mantra is leading you inward, past the level of verbal language. But, not understanding this, the student might get concerned and try even harder to hold on to the verbal level of the mantra. The student might “repeat” the mantra with more intensity, or intentionally faster, so as to not “forget” the mantra, when what is needed is to allow the mantra to do its job, which is to lead you inward towards silence.
This notion of “feeling” and “awareness” might be more easily understood by thinking of some person you love (or someone you dislike). How do you remember that person? Do you have to repeat their name over and over? No. You remember the “feel” of the person inside of you, and if the emotion is very strong, it might be a “constant awareness.” In this constant awareness, the name of the person may come and go, but the awareness is always there. A parent of a new-born baby is constantly aware of that child, though not actively thinking of the name of the baby.
It is this constant awareness that is the real meaning of ajapa japa. In meditation, you make that awareness the object of meditation. It then carries you, fully awake and alert, through the ocean of the unconscious. And when you choose to observe the ocean, the mantra remains your boat. Done internally, it is meditation, Done externally, it is meditation in action. They are both ajapa japa.

I'm a strong believer of energies....and there is no doubt that on full moon, which is when cycle phase is complete and there are optimum distances between sun, earth and moon alignments.....that energies can be Magnified. This means both positive and negative, which is why you have evil/darkness/horror movies ..etc... associated with full moons but you can also have the opposite spiritual ascensions getting magnified......This is why one has potential to attain maximums in bhagti and meditation.
Even Buddha was born on pooranmashi and nearly all of his great advances happened on the same moon ..including his death!
My advice is to avoid negative atmospheres or confrontations because they will just make you dig more deeper, darker holes  and focus on Waheguru instead.
I've experienced these energies in many ways and not just in bhakti....so I would recommend you all to try it with utmost pyar.
On the same note, women also have monthly cycles as per moon cycles and I remember that some study found that in very natural and harmonious parts of the world, they had their fertility peaks during the few days before and after full moons. ....It's just that nowadays we use so much artificial light instead of light from sun and moon that our biorhythms are all misaligned along with other qualities.

That area was mostly populated with Muslim people. Hindus were very few. Babajee told them "very dangerous time is coming. I have taken all the trouble on my head. You make a Gurudwara and a wall around it with an iron gate. At that hard time you all get into it. You well be safe". They did as instructed by Babajee. A few years after Pakistan was created out of India. There were terrible fights between Hindus and Muslims, but they all were safe in that Gurudwara and later on brought to India by military without any loss. Babajee predicted much earlier and saved all.

Also, we can talk more about the moon and how it affects us on a physical and psychological plane. The different phases of moon. There is Gurbani which tells us what to do during each phase of Moon.  This could be started as a separate topic or within here.

31st July is Guru Purnima also known as Asadha Purnima. This comes only once a year. Every pooranmashi is different and has different characteristics. This is whole different study of positions of planets and constellations.
But for  a Sikh, Nirankar took form of Guru Nanak on a full moon night. Thus, every pooranmashi is highly emphasized at each Nanaksar Gurudwara. You can assign various meanings and interpretations to it. But the essence is that people spend night in the remembrance of Guru Nanak, and a collective ardas is done for people who also did a Sehaj path or equivalent in their homes. Thus, the merit of the sangat, and sampat & akhand paths is multiplied and distributed amongst the sangat who come there with devotion or faith.
