    A few more...
On the blackboard, an English Professor wrote the words:
A woman without her man is nothing

He asked his students to punctuate it correctly.
    All the males wrote:
"A woman without her man, is nothing."
    All the females wrote:
"A woman: Without her, man is nothing."

There was a science teacher sitting in the back, and much to the male student's chagrin, he admitted the female students were correct.
Without women giving birth, men would not even be here (hmm sounds a lot like what Guru Nanak Dev Ji said!!
And then he told the male students to remember that women can function just fine on their own, while they are sleeping outside in the dog house.

    Which brings me to this:

Dictionary definition of the word "Single"

Thats why I just grab m guitar and start playing / singing "waheguru" over and over trying different chord runs. But as I said, you dont even need an instrument. You don't need to be on key, or worry about what people think.  Find a place where it's you alone, try at amrit vela. And just sit there eyes closed and start singing waheguru. There really is no need to make it complicated LOL. Like Nike says just do it! Even 10 mins a day has huge benefit!
As for 3HO though I am not 3HO member, I have no problem with what they do, so long as they take care in not disrespecting SGGSJ. Like putting back to SGGSJ while teaching a yoga class. Or bowing to idols, or openly supporting Amritdhari Couples marrying around a Hindu sacred fire with red dots on their forehead (in Rishikesh - the photos of which are available online) or showing 3HO Amritdhari members doing shiv lingam worship (photos also available online). Using gurbani as mantra I don't have a problem with... I often repeat Mool Mantra over and over with guitar (same way Acapella Jatha does it) as well or aad guray nameh (like Singh Kaur - now deceased - did it). --- However as you know I am huge supporter of how they have females as Panj Pyaras ;) photos of that is also available online! Myself I don't follow any specific Jatha. Just Sikh Rehet Maryada. I took Amrit at a historical Gurdwara in Kashmir not associated with any jatha or sect - Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi in Srinagar. (btw even though the panj pyaras that day were males, they spoke directly to us women that day saying there is nothing in Gurbani saying we can't attain same level as males and they WANT (acctually support and desire) to see some of us women who were there that day taking Amrit, in their place someday administering Amrit as Panj Pyaras. ;) So there is no 'fight' there (reference your other post - we dont need to get back into it just wanted to say...LOL). Many Singhs DO in fact support us on equal level! And hearing it from them (actual males) is HIGHLY encouraging and empowering!!!!!  Just the naysayers seem to be louder on the internet haha!!!
Back to simran, that and trying to learn shabads (mostly from acapella jatha) is how I have been trying to improve my pronounciation of gurbani.  Its good practice, and small errors (blame it on my Canadian accent) are usually easier hidden when you are singing :) My FAVOURITE shabad is Ho Bal Bal Jao and I learned it like Acapella Jatha do it (google it - its amazing!!!) Again I use guitar while they used harmonium in that one.

Well, I don't think there hs to be certain way to specifically do it.  In UK there is a program where they do simran for 12 hours straight. (not the same person! LOL) DIfferent people take turns.  They all do it their own way.  One group called Acapella Jatha, did it their own unique way and is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard.  They use a piano keyboard rather than harmonium, and it makes it way more relaxed.  Others like a group called Qi Rattan do it by guitar.  The point is to repeat Gods name.  As long as it's done with devotion, I don't think it you are being graded on it.  Nor do I think you even need an instrument with it.  Just do it from the heart.
Here is the one from Acapella Jatha.  Be sure to listen at least a few mins into it as the girls actually sing in harmony to each other. It's beautiful!  I have used this version to adapt it to my own way but I do it on guitar as I play guitar.

I have to say that nam simran during Amrit vela in company of Sangat at our gurdwara when we had samagam was hugely powerful.
How close is the gurdwara to you? Maybe suggest a program to do it there?

This topic has gone completely off track with the same old repeating argument with the same members again.

The OP's question was about oral sex...... To answer this from my understanding, I can say that oral sex has nothing to do with sikhi. Sikhi doesn't say you can or you can't, it doesn't ban fellatio or cunninglingus, or state whether one swallows or spits!...... oral engagement is an intimate sexual encounter between a couple as any other act would be considered. In sikhi, one only exhibits this behaviour with ONE lifelong spouse...  I'm not sure exactly what the op's intention was or what they wanted to hear, but let's get this straight- Sexual relations outside a marriage are a no no. ... I'm saying this because many young, distorted minds feel that they can indulge in such acts outside or even before marriage because they feel it is not full sex, or that no one's "cherry" is popped. These folk will be under the impression that they can still be considered pure virgins at the time of marriage because full penetration never occurred, The same goes for people that will be so sure that they haven't committed adultery just because they didn't go all the way... This is a false misconception because sexual relations with anyone means any kind of pleasures gained via senses of touch, feel, taste or sight by use of another's body.
.....Bottom line is that oral is not prohibited, but it is still an act of sexual relations and is therefore not engaged with anyone other than your husband/wife. What you do with your husband or wife in the bedroom is entirely your business and nothing to do with sikhi. Saying that you can't engage in this or that in sikhi is like saying you can only wipe your backside with this hand or that one because your Sikh.

Bhen Ji have you thought about doing some things which might help step you up to bigger things you mentioned?
If driving a car seems to be too much what about maybe learning how to drive a scooter? I see MANY girls riding 'scooties' in India. And even full fledged motorcycles too! A bike or scooter is less intimidating than a car, are easier to maneouver in small spaces etc. and scooters are automatic. Full motorcycles have a clutch and gear though... but its still not difficult to learn (I have my motorcycle license actually) I am not sure where in US you are living, it might only help you in Summer / Fall / Spring if you are somewhere that has snow in winter, but will give you a lot of independence for much of the year still.  Also, learn the public transport system where you are so you can travel around freely, by yourself. Independence doesn't necessarily require a vehicle of your own. Plenty of people use public transport simply because it's easier than traffic etc. and cheaper than parking - like in New York City. And getting a job certainly does not require a vehicle or license unless of course the job is to be a driver. For a job try looking for groups that assist immigrants etc. in your area. Here we have a company that people can literally show up any day of the week, and that company is hired to take care of odd jobs... at other companies, people's residences etc. The jobs can range from cleaning, small construction projects (no experience necessary), moving items, grounds keeping etc. And the jobs are dolled out on first come first serve basis and paid the day of.  It's a system that has helped some of the immigrants here until they could find stable work. See if your area has something similar.  Print out a simple resume, listing your strenghts and your interests. Be sure to state you are interested in anything to gain experience and you are willing and eagre to learn. Print of a hundred of them and drop them EVERYWHERE! Every corner store, gas station, call centre, shopping mall stores, restaurants, hotels etc. Be sure to mention also that you will work any hours. At first you can't be picky. Being felxible will help you. Also see if your area has an employment office where you can make partake in free work training etc. that will help you.  If you take these positive steps, you will naturally start to feel more empowered. I also HIGHLY recommend volunteering in the community (animal shelter, hospital, senior citizen nursing home, red cross, etc). Not only will it give you self confidence, your feeling of being any sort of burden will completely dissappear as you are doing seva, and its a good way to make contacts in the community and friends. Contacts that may also lead to employment opportunities etc.
Finally, you are NOT NOT NOT a failure!!! Don't EVER think this!  Life is not always easy. When things are not good we have the choice to either sit and take it and feel disheartened.... OR we can do everything in our power to change our situation. Be always in Chardikala. Refuse to be in situation that makes you feel like that. As an adult anyway, you have the power to decide your own path. Stay positive! You were put here by Waheguru Ji for a purpose!

CdnSikhGirl got a reaction from Koi in Need Help With A Project For India
Ambulance response time in India is atrocious. There's no way to say it nicely. Partly due to drivers failing to give right of way, parking in front of ambulances thus blocking them, heavy traffic etc.  Sadly, in many cases, patients die before help arrives, particularly cardiac incidents, heavy bleeding etc.  This got me thinking, it doesn't HAVE to be this way. There must be a solution that will work in India.
In Canada, I volunteer with St John Ambulance, as a medical first responder. Here, we only participate in public events like concerts, sports events, large parties etc. Specific events where there will be a large amount of people. We treat anything from cuts / broken bones / dehydration and heat stroke (Summer especially when alcohol involved) leading to syncope (unconscious) etc. right up to providing oxygen therapy for breathing issues, we carry some airway adjuncts like NPA/OPA, non-rebreather masks, we can monitor blood glucose as we carry glucometers and can treat low blood sugar because we carry fast acting glucose, we carry AEDs (automated external defibrillators) for cardiac.  Usually also SAM splints for breaks, C-Collars and back boards at events for spinal immobilization etc.  Here ambulance response time is less than 10 min typically. So we don't use the model the UK does where there are CFRs.
Community First Responders. They are overseen by St John Ambulance, carry the same equipment as we do, only they take duty rosters in their local communities. When an ambulance is dispatched, they are also dispatched. Since they respond only to their local area (small area), they will arrive on scene within minutes.  This can SAVE LIVES while awaiting the ambulance crew. Once ambulance crews arrive, they are also a valuable extra set of hands.  THIS system if approached the right way in India WILL save lives.
Some things I thought about already:
    1. Volunteers are needed to become trained, and take rosters in their areas. The logical target group are stay at home wives since they are the ones who are there consistently.
    2. Training them to be medical first responders will empower them as it will be a skill they will have acquired which is beyond basic domestic housework.  This will give them self confidence.
    3. In UK and Canada, St John Ambulance operates as a charity.  I know India is less than enthusiastic about supporting charities.  Some way would need to be found to support having supplies for each "sector" (a full BLS kit (roller gauze bandages, splints, dressings, triangular bandages, etc), tools for vitals (BP cuff, stethoscope etc), AED, Oxygen tanks, airways and masks etc) plus funds to maintain the kits and replenish things from it, refill oxygen tanks etc. The total kit is usually a backpack BLS kit, O2 bag, and the AED (which can often fit in the O2 bag as well).  So one person can easily grab the packs and run.  But kitting up each community would require funding. In North America, and UK, SJA receives donations from the public, from event coordinators etc for coverage. These donations go directly back into purchasing supplies.  What options exist in India??  NGO status?? Would any funding be available for that?
I am working on this idea in one specific area in North India to see if we can trial it and see if it's viable. Once started, the system is self contained in that, some of the members / volunteers will be trained to be instructors of the same course to teach Advanced Medical First Response to SJA standards. They train new volunteers. Some new volunteers go on to become new instructors etc. And the cycle continues.  So only the start up would require instructors from abroad.  I am working with my husband's cousin on trying to make this a reality. He is a doctor in Jammu region and also thinks if this system is possible to be a reality it will save lives.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea on how to get funding in India.  If anyone here is from the UK and has experience with the community first responder setup with SJA please contact me as in Canada we only cover events and do not have community response so I'd like to get more info on how it's run, how it's coordinated with ambulance dispatch etc.
Please set aside our differences, disagreements on DG etc for awhile, and if you have any ideas on how to make this a reality, please share!

You guys are posting matter of factly like it's ok to advocate wanting only sons... isn't this what our Gurus actually spoke against??? Shouldn't we be advocating for children of either gender?  It's these exact things which precipitate females being seen as inferior, ultimately causing things like infanticide, ill treatment of girls etc.  I can't believe you are all speaking of ways to obtain sons over daughters like it's perfectly ok and normal.  I think it's actually kind of sickening...
And if any of it actually worked, Punjabi culture would have birthed itself out of existence long ago.

How well you treat motherly figures by feeding them hormones to make them produce 5 times the milk they normally would, take away their newborn calves so they violently cry out for each other for days, allowing the baby cows to starve to death usually or sell them for meat, hook the Mothers up to milking machines nearly their whole lives, stuff them full of antibiotics to try and combat the massive udder infections caused by machine milking and the oversize udders from hormones, and then kill them at only 4 or 5 yrs old when they no longer serve their purpose as milk machines cutting their lives short by about 75%.
Yeah you really treat your Mother figures very well eh?

CdnSikhGirl got a reaction from Koi in Holy Cow !!!
Actually Paapiman is wrong about cows providing all that extra milk as proof that God meant it was for us.

    1. Cows do NOT produce enough milk to meet demands - so they are given hormones to produce all that extra milk!  Recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST), recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), or artificial growth hormone.  Cows treated with this, have udders much larger than normal, and can barely even walk. A European Union report on the animal welfare effects of BST states that its usage often results in "severe and unnecessary pain, suffering and distress" for cows, "associated with serious mastitis, foot disorders and some reproductive problems".  What is mastitis? Infection... that infection by the way gets into the milk!  And there is an allowance for the amount of pus cells allowed into milk.  Yummy huh???!! So how do they try to combat the infections in their udders? Antibiotics.  Antibiotics that ultimately end up in the milk and in you.   Antibiotics that have contributed to the rise of superbugs (in humans) which are resistant to antibiotics.
Oh, and if dairy cows spend their milk producing days hooked up to machines to extract the milk, you can bet the baby cow that was conceived and born  in order for the Mother cow to produce milk, won't be getting any.  If they keep the baby cow at all (either for a future milker or one of only very very few males for breeding) then they are fed commercial milk replacement powder and never get to see its Mother. The vast majority are killed within the first few days of life or sold to the meat industry.
So anyone who says milk is perfectly fine and Waheguru wants us to drink it and cows are Mothers to us, but then says that cows must be protected is a big hypocrite!  Because by drinking that milk, they are actually contributing to the deaths of thousands of baby cows, Mother cows being fed hormones to increase their milk production, spending their lives having pregnancy after pregnancy, having their calves taken away right after birth, being hooked up to machines their whole life, having infections and udders so large they walk bow legged.  By the way the average dairy cow 'burns out' after about 4-5 years and then they are killed or sold for meat as well.  So the average dairy cow lives about 4-5 years ....the cows NORMAL life span you ask??? 18-25+ years!!!!!!!
How exactly is this protecting the cow???

By the way those verses saying without milk it's useless, I think it's just a reference point that humans could relate to.  It's not saying that a cow IS useless without milk.  Because the line right after says it's the mind without naam that is useless.  So it's taking things humans already assign value to like milk from a cow, and saying gives the reference that without the milk us humans THINK of the cow as useless.  But the real thing which is useless is when our mind is devoid of naam.  Because the subject of the shabad (the rahao line) is not about cows or milk.  It's in reference to our minds.
In reality, EVERYTHING is God, and God IS everything.  So yes, the cow, the milk, the calf, the horses, the grass, the barn etc.  even you and I.

CdnSikhGirl got a reaction from SAadmin in Interesting story ref women post 1984 / Amrit Sanchars
Gurdarsh Kaur had one wish before she took her last breath: to be able to chak Amrit and become Guru Vaali.
However, the times were so tense and severe, that all the male members of the Sikh community had fled to escape persecution and possible execution from the ruling Hindu oppressers. The Singhs would only come out when the need of clock called them to show their military duty. Sometimes they fought protecting Muslims, sometimes Dalits and protecting the honor of so-called "low-caste" hindu women, or protecting the meek and weak in general. The dictating BJP had surpassed all limits of oppression and torture, and had gone on an ambush of tracking down and eliminating every Singh they came across. The RSS wanted to make sure that Brahmins remained on top of their hierarchical system. They had subjugated many Gurudwaras.
The Khalsa women would hold private top secret Smaagams in their homes. They also were on high alert on the ongoing oppression around them. The Jathedarni of the jatha of Khalsa women, Mata Dalbahadur Kaur wanted to organize a gupt Amrit Sinchaar, to have those partake Amrit who had been blessed yet. Many younger girls from Sikh backgrounds and even low-caste hindu women kept pushing her. But the Jathedarni and the rest of the charismatic personalities had their doubts. It had been a while since the last Amrit Sanchaar was organized and held. But since the Singhs had fled, there hadn't been an Amrit Sanchaar in over 2 years. The Khalsa women had their doubts and skepticism as to whether or not they should do Panj Peyaareyan di seva.
One night, Mata Dalbahadur Kaur jee had a dream in where Dasam Pita jee gave Partakh Darshan to Jathedarni jee. He told her that when He created the Khalsa in 1699, he had done no distinction or discrimination between Khalsa men and women. Singhs and Singhnis were both His Sikhs and deserved equal love of Dasmesh Pita jee. He gave her the Hukam to organize an Amrit Sanchaar and He Himself would do the Kautak. The next morning Jathedarni jee narrated this Kautak to all the Singhnian. They then decided that an Amrit Sanchaar would be held regardless of the presence or absence of Khalsa males.
Soon after, more and more Amrit Sanchaars started being conducted. These women and girls who had transformed into Khalsa, were filled with such valour and fierceness that the local RSS units would run away when they saw them and close their "shaakhaas". Together as one Khalsa, this army of Khalsa females shook the very roots of Delhi and sowed the first seed of Khalsa raaj. The BJP goons soon fell at their feet and begged for mercy. These women alone took revenge for 1984 and the many casualties that happened after. Khalsa males no longer had to go into hide out and became the emperors and rulers of India.
Sikhi began spreading far and wide. From Kashmir to Himalayas to Bengal to Rajasthan to Gujarat etc. They then attacked Pakistani troops and took over the Khalsa land and property which was stolen and seized by Muslims in 1947. Finally, the Khalsa had control over Siri Nankana Sahib and other Gurudwara Sahibs of what used to be "Pakistan". Once again, Khalsa Raaj was finally established and fully running. All this possible because the distinction or discrimination between men and women had ceased to exist. Khalsa was only Khalsa. Even the current prime minister of India had to take another janam and take Amrit to become Khalsa.
