    Just want to add bro.
If we read Gurbani WITH LOVE, DEVOTION, CONCENTRATION, SHUDH UCHARAN, ETC, then the PARAS KALA will come into effect.

Paras Kala is transformation power of Gurbani.
If one listens to bani recitation or Kirtan, then it will affect the person even if he doesn't understand it.
If we read bani near water, it will become Amrit and will have good effect on whosoever drinks it.
If we read bani while making food, it will have good effect on whosoever 'chhaks' it.

Hello, I just started reading Sukhmani Sahab at 3:00 A.m in the morning.
I am usually up studying or doing random stuff and that's why I read it at that time. Since I do not know how to read or write punjabi but I know how to speak it, my mother got Sukhmani Sahab translated in hindi from a gurudwara at Amritsar.
I've been reading it since 3 days now but what I am a bit confused as I do not get the meaning of each and every line even when they're in hindi. I am punjabi not Sikh but I love every religion and culture and believe in "Sabka maalik ek" and I love being a part of sikhism as it makes me feel peaceful and loved. I read it with alot of faith, but my mind is constantly thinking about other things too as I am kind of an overthinker, but I read it with alot of love and patience. Though I don't undertand the meaning of each and every line, whenever I understand even one, I feel very blessed and happy and fortunately there are many lines that I do understand! Bhai Saheb Gurupreet singh ji has said in his videos of Amritvela channel that you can read or listen to it even if you don't understand it properly, it still can do wonders and I agree, it really gives me peace for some time. But let me know if that's not alright and if you think that it's important to know the meaning of each and every line because I am indeed going to watch a video or two regarding that.
Also, what I am really confused about is that, I've been reading the same 2 ashtpadi from the last 3 days, because I am reading it slowly and with patience, but I think that's not the right way? I mean I am not sure, but yeah and I've been doing so for like 1 hour..like this is how slowly and patiently I read it. I read every line with pauses and try to get it's meaning but I don't know if that's alright or not. Should I complete it in one sitting? Or should I keep reading it the way I am? Any rituals to follow before reading it? Because I just wash my hands, legs and body, brush my teeth, cover my head and start to read it. I also say "ik onkar satnaam" after I finish and I've this line from the paath "prabh ke simran ridh sidh nau nidh" which I keep repeating throughout the day as much as I can.
Please guide me, I will be very greatful for the same.

First of all Dass would like to welcome you onto this great website. You are very similar to me as when dass started to do learn gurbani nitnem banis I always used english roman script then use a audio tracks to learn all of the sounds. Which is quite similar to how you described reading the bani in Hindi. There are a few really good apps which offer both punjabi and hindi versions of the banis.

You are on the right track and may Guru Sahib Ji do kirpa on you

Veerji, I suggest you listen to Sukhmani Sahib in Kirtan form. Even if you don't understand any meanings, listen to it. There have been so many gursikhs who were illiterate but still reached a high spiritual state just by listening to Paath from gursikhs and repeating Vaheguru with every breath.
"Dookh Rog Santaap Utre Suni Sachi Baani"
Sufferings and Pains leave when one listens to Dhur ki Bani.
One more suggestion, when I didn't know how to read Punjabi, I just learned the letters and tried to recognize them and learn their sound. Then I used to listen to Paath of Bhai jarnail singh Damdami Taksal with Gurbani being displayed on my phone. In one year, I was able to read Sukhmani Sahib fluently. It took me nearly 1 hr 20 mins to complete it in one sitting.
I suggest, try to learn the gurmukhi letters and then LISTEN to Sukhmani sahib with Gurbani in front of you.
Here is the link of Kirtan with Hindi transliteration and second one Sukhmani sahib Paath.

Amazing example brother. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Gyani Thakur Singh jee gave a similar analogy to the below, in his katha.
The below is from another topic.
    Quote

Let's look at an example. Suppose, you are digging a well. Now, the water is at 20 ft, below the surface, but you don't know that. You start digging at one spot. You dig for 10 ft and then stop, as you suspect that you may have chosen the wrong spot. Then, you move to a different spot. You dig there for 15 ft and then again stop, as you suspect again that you don't have the right spot. Therefore, you switch the spot again and start digging over there. If you keeping doing this again and again, you will never ever be able to reach the water.
Similarly, if a person keeps switching Jaaps, he/she might be engaging in something similar to the example (of the well) above.

    Hmmm...
If you dig a thousand wells a foot deep each well only has one foot of water. If you dig one limitless well and you can put a thousand pipes into it and every place you draw from it is limitless.
Like all things are fruit of Naam, in True Aikido everything is fruit of Ichi no Suburi when you understand it properly. You're only ever doing one thing. Surrendering to Akal Purakh and cutting True. The numerology and timing of Aikido is 1.

    Thanks Paaji.
The biggest regret in my life so far, was to NOT stick to one Jaap for a long time. We need to choose one (or a few) Gurbani Jaap/Gurbani Mantar and then stick to it for a very long time, before we can hope to see any tangible results.
Hopefully, people can learn from this experience.

Waheguru ji, I don’t share my number because I don’t feel like I’m of any high avasta to be able to guide others. That comes with great responsibility and one must know exactly what they are doing. Playing with people’s spiritual lives is no joke. If I know of something then I’ll share here as will others who come forward in a general capacity.
There are plenty of gurmukhs now available who openly welcome 1 to 1 guidance and I humbly request you reach out to one of them. Try on gurmat meditation who I would recommend you try first. See other thread on how to connect to their platform.

Ha ha.. I am sorry but i am the wrong person to ask this question. I may demotivate you, if I answer this question honestly. Please don't follow me on this. I am very irregular and bad at sitting for Simran particularly.
I love Banis more. Listen to katha etc. But simran i have just started listening to simran audios to make me sit for simran and I dose off pretty easily. So i am sorry please don't follow me.
Try doing it all day as Simranjeet singh ji says while working, travelling, walking, driving - whatever you do.

Started but struggling to do at fixed time. Taking about 30 mins for one 108 mala of Mool Mantar, doing about 2 malas daily. Getting better in crossed leg position and focusing in between the eye brows. Feeling focused in dark,  so I close the blinds or use thick shawl to cover my head and eyes if seeing the light.
If i am doing it very slowly by listening with ears and translating the meaning in my brain or heart then i get lost in my thoughts.  May be because it is the beginning!
If I am doing it faster in my mind,  then it helps me to concentrate and i could go on autopilot for naam jaap for an hour. It is giving me good feeling even though i am not translating its meanings. I am doing jaap mostly at one place and I feel my body goes in jaap mode when I sit there with my mala.
Next step is to set up a place on floor with cushion to sit on,  facing east charda paasa and having little water next to me.
I couldn't do jaap on the day I shaved my arms,  feeling guilty and thinking I must start wearing full sleeves like Muslim girls.
Repeated actions build up habit and doing mool mantar repeatedly would be the only way to go ahead on my spiritual journey.

you may be doing this in a slightly forced fashion
When you are going into steady state sehaj, then the breathing would be shallow and heart rate would also drop. At this stage it's quite easy to hold after an inhale and let the breath out very slowly whilst doing gurmantar. You don't wanna breath in -->hold with force-->and then exhale with relief. Trick is to breathe in, hold for few seconds or longer .-->and then let the exhalation occur very slowly.  This way, you don't end up taking a long gasp for air when letting go of breath hold.
Try the Rom Rom technique first, especially at the navel. Should feel the pulsation and doing gurmantar with it will help provide support for prana. Parabẖ jī ṯū mere parān aḏẖārai.)
Personally, I'd recommend practicing rom rom technique as it goes hand in hand with khumbak. As soon as breath is held, rom rom gets prominent and shabad gets louder instantly.

You should read the teachings right from the highest and perfect Teacher, in SGGS.
Do not rush, take your time to understand and digest the teachings which are true spiritual gems from the Bani.
Monitors or advanced students are fine, but having direct and first hand contact with the teacher is the best, for in the end, it is with the teacher whom we have to account for our education learned and applied at the end of our present grade(human life).
Then we can not give excuses, that I only did what I saw others do, or was told by them to do according to their understanding.

As for Nam, do not rush as said above, see for yourself what is Nam, what is Guru Sahiban, what is a Gurmukh, a Sant Jan, and see the message which they wanto convey us from their personal intercation and communion with  Supreme Power, or level of Highest Consciousness.
To start with, I will suggest you you to start with Jap Ji Sahib, Anand Sahib, Asa Ki war, though all the Gurbani by itself is a spiritual wealth beyond measure.
Then if here or there you have any questions, you may ask the sangat here, all will be much glad to help you, but, as said, go through the Bani which is true bliss, and a path leading to the Highest, if only applied as indicated by Guru Jee in it.
If by His grace you are constant in your approach towards the Bani, you will discover higher truths hidden in it time after time as one gets mentally purer, that is the magic of the Bani.
Guru Jee is the only link between us jeev atmas and Him, He is the One to ferry us across, rest of the people are all passengers waiting to fulfill their journey as per their destiny karam.
So in Sikhee, Guru Jee is the most important being, had it not been for Him, we could never ever have come to know anything about Waheguru Akal Purukh.
To the extent that the Bani says:
    Guru meree pooja
The Guru is the objective of  my devotion (for loving Him, we merge in Him, the formless One)
    Guru Gobind
The Guru is the Lord sustainer Gobind
    Guru mera Parbrham Guru Bhagwant
My Guru is the trascendental Lord (formless and unfathomable= Shabad or Nam), beyond the realms of Brahm or Maya.

Best of luck Bro and stay blessed.

    *********************************
    2nd  Saviyya
In many gutke, ਭੂਪਤਿ is written as ਭੂਪਤ which is misprint.
    3rd Saviyya
In many gutke, ਹੈਂ is written as ਹੀ which is misprint.
    In 4th Saviyya

Notice the last word in all panktis have Dulaavan on ਖ, that is, ਖੈ. However, in first three panktis the correct spellings of the last words are ਬਿਸੇਖੇ, ਪੇਖੇ, ਦੇਖੇ and the ਲੇਖੈ in last pankti is to read as it is only. ਲੇਖੈ is already correct.
    In 6th Saviyya
In many gutke, ਕੇ is written as ਕੋ which is misprint.
    In 8th Saviyya
In many gutke, ਇਸਨਾਨ is written as ਸਨਾਨ which is misprint.
    In 9th Saviyya
In many gutke, ਕਹੋਂ is written as ਕਹੌਂ which is misprint

Everything above is based on research of puratan handwritten saroops by Ex Akaal Takht Jathedar Late Singh Sahib Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti Ji.
Daas will keep on posting on this thread as I come to know about these printing mistakes. I again request all sangat to contribute to this thread. You can write the panktis or words which you found differently written/printed in gutka sahib or Gurbani apps and sangat here can do vichar or I can ask Giani Jee. Daas is 100% sure that if sangat enthusiastically contributes to this thread, the benefit that the readers will get will be ਅਤੁਲ (immeasurable).

Thanks Bhai sahib for motivating me. I also heard from gursikhs that as we deep dive into understanding bani, the more we go in, the more we explore those never-heard-before areas. First, Gurbani is Agaadh Bodh. Second, bani also reduces our pride. As we read bani, we consider ourself more nikamma and moorakh and become more of a SIKH, that we don't know anything, it is only Satguru Ji who can bless us. Vaheguru!

Bhai sahib, this is not a new issue. Even Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh Ji talks about this. I respect your opinions that Raagmaala is bani. However, one is influenced a lot by sangat. I am very much influenced by Gurmat Bibek Gursikhs/Tapoban Sahib Gursikhs or you can say AKJ gursikhs. I have also done research on Raagmala to know the points of people against and in favour of Raagmala. As we are the one left with choice to read it or not, I don't read it. Somehow, I found AKJ opinion more logical and in line with Gurmat. Anyways, main point is that we can't conclude on an online platform if it's bani or not. We have Brahmgyani and Mahaan scholars on both sides. Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji and all AKJ Mahapurakhs, Vidya Martand Pandit Kartar Singh Daakha, Joginder Singh Talwara Ji  were against it and Taksaal, Nanaksar and majority Panth is in favour. However, instead of looking at the difference in opinion we must also look at the love between puratan AKJ and Taksal gursikhs. Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji called Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji a Sant. Sant Kartar Singh Ji would himself serve Langar to Bhai Sahib Jeevan Singh Ji. Baba Harnaam Singh Ji Rampur Khera attended the bhog of sehaj Paath despite knowing bhog would be at mundawni. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji would shower love on Babbar Khalsa Jodhe and Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh Ji. In 1978, gursikhs of both sides gave shaheedi to protect the honour of their guru.
It's better not to touch these sensitive topics or else we all will be labelling each other as Kurehtis and Tankhaiye.
Bhai Sahib, when did I say I want to become Bhai Pinderpal Singh Ji? Only virle gursikhs can have so much dedication and knowledge about Gurmat. It's my bad that I didn't elaborate. I didn't mean that everyone should leave their work and start doing khoj. I meant to say that we need to do research on Gurbani. We need to inspire others to make efforts to understand bani. Those people who actually have the chaah to become kirtanis and parcharaks and do panthic Sewa, the panth will take care of their household needs through Daswandh. And we should also start with our own family and inspire them to explore this anmol khazaana. Only if we encourage our friends and family to do gurmat deeds, even then it is great panthic Sewa. Main Point is naam japna, Kamaayi karni and doing Sewa of Panth as much as we can. Starting online Santhiya and gurmat vichar classes and using technology to reach mass sangat will also benefit a lot. Contributing to the vichar in this thread will also be a great Sewa by gursikhs.
May Guru sahib do kirpa and bless his beloved gursikhs to do Sewa and Simran and do mass parchaar of Sikhi.
