I used to be a non-veg.  When I was pregnant with my first baby, I was cooking chicken drumsticks one day. I had a sudden thought that my baby would have similar size legs and what if somebody cooks my baby and say something like-'yeah its tasty or no its yuck.'  It was very difficult to get rid of that thought afterwards.  First I stopped eating the pieces (only tari), and gradually stopped everything.  I could not stand chicken or any meat's cooking smell now. Both my sons are vegetarian too. yeahhhh

    1 year update.
It's been a year and I haven't touched any alcohol or cigarettes during this past year by Maharaj's kirpa. Without a doubt I owe it all to a higher power that helped me to overcome an 18 year addiction. It all started on this forum and I would like to send my heartfelt gratitude to all members here that that helped me. Anyone else that comes across this thread and needs help feel free to pm me anytime. I learnt alot this past year and there's many tips I can give for those that seriously wish to kick their smoking and drinking habit.

Thanks Soulfinder Veerji for this gem. Now my Mool Mantar is always accompanied with this Salok. A different rhythm and emotion arises when it's read together with Mool Mantar. The emotion of begging, surrendering and asking for grace, to be spared from vices and everyday I stay away from vices,I know it's only possible because Maharaj has granted me this boon. I didn't do sava lakh jaap but at the beginning I was doing 1 mala of this with Mool Mantar daily. These days I do 1 mala whenever possible.

    Verily true Brother.
Their  present bad character is due to their past karam, and they being vegetarinas in this life, is only to not go with heavy karam when departing from this plane of consciousness, and while being bastards in this life, is also bad karam  which undoubtedly they will have to pay for.

Maybe its because those people have some kind of doubt at the back of thier mind that their prays wont be granted. If you have the slightest doubt, hesitance, or 'what if' then you are setting yourself up for fail.
Most people dont understand the idea of 'burning your bridges'. Their ardas/prays - though they spend a lot of time, effort and money on it, are really a 'just in case' supplication.

I think it depends how much you believe in reciting, how deep is your prayer, what are you asking, do you believe that it is only the Waheguru Almighty who could give you or are you just experimenting and so on.
I had astrology horoscope book thing when I was a teenager, most of the things in it were true.  One of the worrying thing written in it was that I would not have children for many years.  When I got married, I has miscarriage (first pregnancy) and I was very sure that I would not be a mother for many years now.  My parents tried for many years and after eight years of their suffering, I was born.  My only hope was Waheguru.   I got pregnant but I was expecting miscarriage any time.  I was praying while doing house chores all the time whenever I remember.  All scans came fine, but worry was always there and the only hope was I would deliver this baby if and only if Waheguru would bless me.  Finally Waheguru blessed me with healthy baby boy.

and We are not using Bhai Bala's Janamsakhi as a main source of our historical research, it was the most interesting medium of making people (not even our sikh family but people of other religions too) aware about the history of our Guru's ,thats why we added it in our blogs .

    RESEARCH CONTINUES (PART- 2)....

After this ,we went to Anuradh Pura Museum where Gurunanak Dev ji went according to our Sakhiyan , where he debated and spread his message of humanity all around the district among the buddhist(Buddhghosht). There's a Buddhist Spoot, the biggest spoot in the world. We also discovered various Scripts , We found that there were bits of punjabi language inscribed over them and we also found a script with Nanak written over it.We discovered that the script might contain 1400-1600 AD languages i.e Landa, Takri, Sharda , Gupta and Devagiri which were used in North India i.e Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab till Sindh .These languages were getting mixed during this period and Gurmukhi originated from the mix of these languages only.We are still working, over decoding the Script found in Srilanka.

We did our survey by going to various museums, morgue record points, various churches and mosques and unlimited temples . We also conducted Secondary Research , We google about the various locations that where pointed containing gurudwara, we also visited such places and we found that there were no gurudwara in those areas and not even sikh families were residing there.

Here is an interesting story that I found on web .....
    "
in the biography of Shri Mantralaya Guru Raghavendra Swami, it was said that once Shri Venkatanadha (Swamiji was called as such before becoming a Sanyasi) went to the house of a rich person to seek an employment. The owner was involved in a function at their home at such time. The owner upon hearing the request of Shri Venkatanadha entrusted him with the task of making Sandalwood paste from the Sandalwood.
Shri Venkatanadha obliged to the task and made the paste from the Sandalwood while chanting a Mantra in his mind.
The sandalwood paste was later applied on the bodies of the invitees as a customary practice. Applying the sandalwood paste is said to cool the body. But the invitees started to feel an uncomfortable sensation of heat on their bodies on its application.
The owner then asked Shri Venkata nadha for the reason of such happening. Shri Venkatanadha replied that he was chanting a mantra of a deity in its fierce form during the preparation of the sandalwood paste. Then the owner requested Shri Venkatanadha to provide them a remedy for curing the uncomfortable sensation of heat. Then Shri Venkatanadha chanted another Mantra through the power of which all of them became normal. Thus Shri Venkatanadha was a Mantra Siddha even before becoming a Sanyasi.
This incident indicates that the attributes of the deity upon which we chant the Mantra enters into our body and can also affect the things that we touch.
You can also read the biography of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to know about the experiences that he got while chanting a Mantra."

Regarding the topic of this present thread, that much I could say : Satgur bajoh hor kachee hae Bani.
In one of the 10 commandments of christianism, it is said : Thou shall not kill.
It does not say do not kill men, or u can kill animals, it just says: thou shall not kill. For any killing implicates creating "karam".
The law of karma, is not known nor accepted by many, yet it is verily true.
Then too, not only the basics of any dharam count, but after that, the higher teachings are very important also as per Gurmat, in order to reach that ultimate reality of Waheguru.
Creation is imperfect and has to continue running like that somehow, and its explanations  maybe out of the reach of our limited minds, thus not accept the higher truths as per Gurbani.
Our main duty is to have cleared up our minds with the aid of Gurbani in order to fulfill our objective in human life of merging our surtees in Him, and also do the needful and be helpful to all beings as nishkam seva, for in all resides His Jot.
Rest is all His  hukum, which we may never understand, until we merge in Him and become one with Him, the highest level of consciousness or chetanta.

The sun is going to rise from the west tomorrow as this is the first time i think i have ever agreed with kdsinghs post.
Not taking any sides in this debated to death meat topic but just wanted to say that in my life experience some of the biggest b*st*rds, untrustworthy lowlife pieces of shit that I have come across were lifelong 100% vegetarian. And the most honest stand up people who helped me in life were non veg. This has convinced me that being veg has Nothing to do with spirituality or morality. This is what I strongly believe in as it is what I personally experienced. Gurfateh.

Diet of humans is decided by environment factors which are in total control of God. If God wanted humans to be vegetarians then  why he did not create fertile land like northern India in whole world. It's almost impossible to be vegetarian in coastal areas , icy regions and middle East type desert . Apart from India nowhere we found vegetarianism in world .

Don't judge doing paath from my experiences. I'm no benchmark you should be comparing against or be striving for similar experiences. Each person could experience something completely different, special or nothing.

Gaining enlightenment is a very high avasta bro and I am certainly a long way away from such a stage. Seeing a few coloured lights or hearing a few sounds doesn't make one enlightened buddy. I'm just like one of you guys, trust me, with same hopes wishes, desires and long list of faults and issues...... :-)

I would say using a count method isn't such a bad thing for beginners to build up a habit pattern. But eventually you want to let go of the counting.

The first time I undertook mool mantar jaap was after I visited the bhora sahib of Sant Baba Nand Singh in Nanaksar gurdwara. To go down there you had a promise to undertake a certain number of paaths. When the sevadar stopped me and asked if I could do Guru Granth Sahib the path to which I replied No. Then he asked if I could sukhmani sahib and again I said no. Then he asked if I could do mool mantar and I said Yes. He said ok I want you to do x malas for 40 days. My mother jumped in said she would complete the sehaj path on my behalf and the sevadar said no. We want to get this child started in doing something by himself. After about 20 something days I started seeing floating lights which was quite scarey because I was quite young. I used to think I was about to have darshan or something and used to get scared and stop. One mahapursh called me fool for stopping. He said for all you know Baba Nand Singh might have going to appear and you got scared and opened your eyes. I was like, What!!!!

2nd time I undertook mool mantar was to complete the 125,000 as advised and inspired by listening to Giani Thakur Singh. This really took ages because I couldn't do so many at first. But the long milestone was one of the best things ever. I started really enjoying it and wanted to do more and more.

Setting a goal can be a good thing because you will set yourself a milestone that will take time to complete. It is very easy to start doing something for a couple of days then stop and not make it a part of your daily routine.

Likewise with Waheguru Simran starting with 5 minutes a day and building up from there might be a good way to go... I wouldn't recommend a mala for that one because all your dhyaan will be on the hands rather than the dhun of the mantar.

I am not sure if you guys will read this reply now as this post id more than 10-12 yrs old.
According to a tape of sant ishar singh ji rara sahib, 4 types of smadhis are there:

    1. Shabad roop- saaVikalap: means its withh shabad and with though waves also, example , u r chanting gurmantar and thinking about God also,( more or less but there are thought waves)
    2. Ashabad roop- saaVikalap:
in this u r not chanting any mantar but only thinking about God,
    3. Shabad roop- nirVikalap:
its when u r chanting a mantar( by tongue or by mentally by baikhari or by madmaa or by praa or by psanti) but there is absolutely no thought waves, all the thought are merged in shabad, no other thoughts.
( the rom rom avashtha can approach upto here, in this there is no thought waves but yet there is one thing that is shabad)

    4. This is the 4 stage of samadhi, no kathavachak tells this way baba ishar singh used fo tell sangat, most kathavachaks says that this avastha a person can live only 7 days or 5 days but according to sant ji its
    Ashabad roop-nirvikalap
means no shabad no gurmantar no light no thought waves, complete sunn, sant ji also used to say that  its to hard to say what exactly is this stage, they said no idea what this stage is, only who approach can feel

Beautifully explained, gave some motivation to mind.

A question to practitioners, is mental repetition of Waheguru mantra fine in initial stages ? I do not like to do loud japa, because I dont want others in house to think that I am super religious or spiritual. I feel it jinxes me if others can hear me.
