    @Kaur1510
I don't do Mool Mantar anymore only Gurmantar jaap. I did Mool Mantar jaap many years ago. These days I just do enough Gurmantar until any Anhad sound manifest in the head/ears then I try switch to listening to these and ease off the Gurmantar until my thoughts begin to come to the forefront. Then I slowly bring back Gurmantar whilst keeping Dhyan on anhad sounds.
Benji this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Do what you can when you can and don't beat yourself up. Build up slowly. Just keep persevering even if it's few minute bursts.
I don't have specific routines which is not what you want to hear. You need to find what is working for you, whether that is in the morning, evening or night.
Let's say I'm doing chores (cooking, vacuuming or ironing) at home. Keep reciting Gurmantar and keep your focus on the sound of jaap don't let your surti run away on other thoughts. Do this in parallel to doing your work. That's what I do. Why waste time thinking nonsense. Keep Dhyan on Gurmantar.
If your day job requires mental effort then obviously you can't do both. Then I just use my time when I travel to work or some free time during lunch break. Go for a walk or find some where to sit and jap.

Its been a few days now since my last post. At night when it's quiet I can hear two different types of sound towards my right ear. One sounds like some kind of air instrument in which you would blow. I can't describe it because I have nothing to compare it to. The other is some kind of tingling sound, like some kind of bells but higher in pitch. It's not very loud, so on a volume scale of 1-10 I would put them at about 2. It doesn't take much to drown them out.

I can't say I'm finding them intoxicating yet, but then again to be honest neither was the Waheguru jaap when I initially started. Now the more I do the more it's growing on me. Hopefully the more I listen to these internal sounds the more they will grow on me too.

I am observing my mind is becoming more still and focused when I do simran and less thoughts are entering my mind. The tone and tempo of my simran has become consistent and I think found the right setting which feels good to me.

May Waheguru bless us all with his Naam Simran.

I am not sure if I should write this but think I might have just experienced something.

I was lying down on the sofa just thinking about waheguru when I had this urge to do simran. I started the jaap and my voice sounded so clear. I became totally engrossed in the sound and then all of a sudden my voice and breath suddenly merged into perfect union all by themself without me trying to force it. Then it felt like a ball of energy started shooting up and down inside of me between my chest and navel. It was really powerful. All of a sudden I became aware of what was happening to me so I stopped out of fear. I'm still a little shaken up by the experience.

    Pen jee,
There are quite a few noble souls here who through their posts I can say that they have achieved some progress in about 3 , 4  years, but, as a general rule I can say that purity and love only for Waheguru, is what counts, than span of time or anything else, to have even a glimpse of His darshan...that also by His kirpa, but nevertheless in any case we should hold on tight on the pallav of His sacred Name, for in this way we can for sure draw His blessings, even if we are heavy sinners and dry in love and faith in Him.
His Nao is the only true refuge for one and all.

P.S: we can get inspired with someone's  experiences,  but we should not try to copy anybody, for our race and goal is not with others but with ourselves.

Being new to this forum and meditation, I am amazed at the knowledge and experience some of the forum members have.  I could hardly sit for 10-15 minutes with lots of distractions in mind, bringing my attention back to meditation/breathing/Simran and then again wandering off in my thoughts.
I know we have different experiences based on family backgrounds, past karamas, hard work we put on in meditation in this life but may I ask saadh sangat, for how long (months, years ) they have been practicing meditation/Waheguru Simran for?

    @Soulfinder
THANK YOU VEERJI.  I would definitely read this book and would pass the link to my teenager son too.
It's true actually, I do believe and trust infinite times in Sant BABA Isher Singh Ji Rara Sahib Wale but not in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji,  which is a real shame.
As I am practising more these days,  surely with the grace of Waheguru, it would surely build up.
    One again,  thanks.

I am coming back to this forum after a long while. Reading the inspirational posts under Meditation section re-sparked my interest again. I still am not able to sit still physically more than 20 minutes but it doesn;t matter to me anymore. I am surprised how much my thinking has changed. Asana Siddhi will come sponatneously. When surat leaves the body and goes into shabad I think Asana Siddhi wil happen itself. Until then I should just keep japping till i die.

you could try going to a meditation retreat. i've heard of this one zen retreat where you live there for a month. if you move from your asan- you get hit with a stick, if you wake up late- you get hit with a stick, if you talk out of turn - stick, if you chew less than the prescribed number of times before swallowing your food - stick, if you try to eat more than allowed - stick.... now that's how you build a jeevan!!

You should start doing Akhand Paath duties. After a few rauls where nobody comes to relieve you, three hours will seem like nothing.

Silence as I've always thought of it that Gurmat is close to Madhva's Dvait Vedant as opposed to Shankara's Advait Vedant. I don't think that the Atmaa was ever created, nor can it be destroyed, that is what Bhai Randhir Singh said to Bhagat Singh wasn't it? In my understanding, Atmaa is not Vaheguru, but it is of the same substance(for lack of a better word) as Parmatma.

ananya has different meanings depending on different samprdayas. For Sri Samprdaya of Ramamnuj or Gaudiya vaishnavs it is taken to mean 'exclusive' devotion, and they establish types of devotion in which there is a relationship between 'thou' and 'that'...because they accept a real distinction between self and braham. For Gurmat this is not the case, there is devotion toward that which is truly oneself. We accept only Braham and Maya. So our 'ananya' is not so much exclusive, but 'non-different'. Our forms of bhakti culminate with the visah between Jiva and Braham...in actual fact all we do is remove the veil of maya as Guru Maharaj has said Atma is Ram and Ram is Atma.

Antahkaran vritti means the mind events that flow constantly.

Upasana strictly means symbolic worship, we perform this through naam, but eventually move to the highest form, ahangreh upasana, deep meditation upon the Self.

Turiya is the chautha pad, amar pad, etc of Gurbani, the state beyond the three gunas, beyond time and space (also the three gunas), beyond subject and object (triputi), etc, etc. After which there is jivanmukti until the end of prarabdh karam (currently fructifying actions) have run their course, the attachment to the body ends and videhmukti meaning bodiless mukti.

I wish I could sit to 3 hours. But as Pheena jee mentioned, sitting on something elevating you, like 1 inch can really help a great deal. Also losing weight helps alot. The more fat you have, the harder it is to sit in a asan because the back, legs start hurting. Most yogis, sadhus are slim people. I rarely have seen over weight yogis and sadhus. So losing a weight is a must.

The reason i said 'sitting 3 hrs continuously' was because I read somewhere that if you are able to sit 3 hrs continuously then you get 'asan siddhi' (anyone can elaborate on that please?) Speaking from the viewpoint of some yogic practitioners , it is believed that in order to keep the mind still keeping your body still is very important in the initial stage and if you are able to attain 'asan sidhi' then you can stay still for as long as you want without any distraction in your practice.

and yup I agree with antinang that bhagats of Rab are not bound by any asanas or restrictions.

But filthy human beings like me who have reached nowhere do need to discipline their bodies.

A couple came home at midnight after having a good time at a restaurant, only to find the smell of gas around the house.
The man went to the kitchen and detected a stronger smell. The subconscious mind pushed him to turn on the light. and the kitchen exploded, the husband died instantly and the wife was moved to intensive care where she still remains.
The furniture was seen 200 metres from the house, which meant that the gas pipe explosion was stronger than a bomb.
The lesson from this appalling incident is as follows:
When you smell the gas do not turn on the light, but open all the doors and windows calmly, so that no spark occurs, then close the gas tube and do not turn on the light until the smell of gas completely disappears.
Also do not open the refrigerator if you smell the gas, because it also causes an explosion, and even the suction fan do not switch it on because it has an electrical charge, just open the windows.
You should not read this letter alone, publish it as much as you can,  so it may  be helpful to  as many people  as possible.

    Sorry Pen Jee,
the simran you do while moving around or waiting for anything is undoubtedly a must for our betterment spiritual wise, but the simran I was referring to do, is that of sitting in meditation to do simran, for the essence of Truth which we are looking for is within us, and going inwards towards that Truth can only be possible by stilling the body and withdrawing our attention from the outside world, precisely through the simran of Waheguru. Then this very Simran will take us to higher and purer levels of consciousness until we reach the highest abode of Truth, namely Sach Khand.
This is the true importance of Waheguru Simran, to which almost nobody pays attention, but is a priceless gift upon us by Guru Sahiban.
    Stay blessed.

Lust just as any other vices, are mind´s dirty tendencies, which go on adding dirt on us.
For that purpose, Gurbani is very clear and direct giving us the right method or antidote to get us cured from these vikaars.
PRABH KA SIMRAN MUN KEE MAEL JAAE
The Simran of the Lord, Waheguru, is the cleanser of all impurities upon the mind.
These words, is no guessing, speculation, manmat or hearing and saying from others, it is direct wisdom from Guru Jee, and as such is utter truth and most effective when followed implicitly.
