Some sakhis related to this context:

    1. There was a masand, who used a gift (cloth) by a Sikh, for his own purpose. The only punishment he received, was that he was tied upside down from a tree.

    2. Another sakhi, which is mentioned by Bhai Saab Bhai Vir Singh jee, is that of a person named Dulcha. This happened when the tenth master was very young. He had stolen gold bangles, sent by a Sikh for Satguru jee. He was forgiven by the lord.

    3. Another sakhi, which is also mentioned by Bhai Saab Bhai Vir Singh jee, is that of a robber who stole Rs. 700 from a trader, at Anandpur Sahib. This thief was also forgiven by Satguru jee after he promised that he won't steal again.

    4. There is another sakhi, regarding a Singh, who hit a dog with a stick, for no reason. Satguru jee was not happy with him and asked him to do certain number of paaths to get forgiven.

Therefore, the above four sakhis clearly illustrate the vast amount of forgiveness inside Satguru jee, We should try to follow his teachings.

I don't think bro, the law in Canada is fair, when it comes to rape, aggravated assault and pedophilia. It is not that bad, in other cases. If we had Khalsa raaj, I am pretty sure these crimes would be punished by death. In my opinion, these three crimes are worse than killing a person instantly.

I'm very disappointed that at our local cinema the Khalsa fauge is protesting outside and sending people away who want to watch it and gurdwaras are writing to them to get further showings removed.

We are happy for artist pictures to be drawn and put up. Even mediocre cartoons and low budget films made with drawings to depict characters.
We have 100s of saakhia told on stage without anyone questioning their validity or accuracy.
Take it to the next level and make a proper film and everyone jumps up and down.

I have been waiting so many years for something like this from the moment I watched Mahabarat and Ramayan. I used to think how great it would be if Sikh's made it of our Gurus. If I can't watch it in the movies I'm definitely going to buy the dvd and let my son watch it when he gets older.

I can't see the fuss over it myself. It seems that some Sikhs just need an "issue" to go vent some anger over.

Personally, given the acclaim that "Mahabharat" (the original), Ramayana (2 years ago) and "Devo ke Dev Mahadev" recieved, and the immense joy and learning I received from watching them, I always hoped that one day the Sikhs cold have replicated this. Sadly it may not be so.

What is most important? i would Say Love...

the yearning that develops within...a sign of our love towards Him...or is it His love activating our heart and thus all His doing?

without love how can one wake up in the early hours to contemplate Him? when it is so much easier just to lay in a cosy bed and enjoy your sleep.

who makes all this happen? even the effort...is it all Him...when the time is right for us to awaken to the Truth is it Him that makes it all happen

A path which is meant to be experienced and causes for a ceaseless battle against the mind, through engaging the mind and heart...continously can not 'adequately' be "branded" as A or B.... This branding takes away the current agency and throws the engagement into a mode that is suspended in time..I agree there is a shared heritage but people are constantly looking for secrets within gurbani because their own mind 'resists' facing itself. What if terms such as saadh, sant, and especially 'naam' are not just simple signifiers allowing one to engage with gurbani to open up experience as opposed to deducing a logic?

So I say that we , as a collective, knew what was meant at one time when they said 'sikhi gaadi rah ya' (it is a straight route); the problem these days is that we have turned the sidhant into a fetish...I place myself at the forefront of this...

I watched this video while I was in grieving process of my Daadi , who had passed away the same day.
This was very emotional and scary at the same time.

This led me to reading the translation of Garuda Purana. And some of the things mentioned in there are the ones that Guru Arjan Dev Ji Mentions specifically when The Jam Hits your head with a rod to wake you up.
But at the same time there is comfort in the power of Naam and Gurbani which carries us across this Bhavsagar.

A great reminder indeed, neo bhaji!

This is so true ! There is only one 'jyot" exist on the earth in the human form and you need to be have GREAT GREAT Fortune to see him or meet him . Even if I or somebody try to tell ,you will not have a faith on his words if you are not destined to meet that special one.
With Great Fortune I feel I am the blessed one who found him .Acutally he found us . we cannot find him ! So donot worry about finding him just yearn for it with prayers ,vairaag ,love and when your hunger gets to extreme he will appear.

p.s. - I currently serve on the management committee here as treasurer. My sangat supported me when I fought for the right of Sikh women to tie turban in Canadian military, and when the story made it to even Indian newspapers when I became the first Sikh woman to tie dastar in Royal Canadian Navy, my Sangat bestowed me with siropa for opening the door for future Singhnis to do the same without having to fight for it. I am trying to be the change I want to see, by trying to make a difference where I can to uplift other Sikh women and girls. I don't actually do much langar seva... I was never good at cooking. But I try to do seva wherever else I can. Outside of being on the executive committee, I am part of the Defence Visible Minority Advisory Group and helped plan a National event at the base here, involving all the different ethnic communities and I was liaison for the Sikh community and the Hindu community here locally to raise awareness of who we are. All this even though I am not Punjabi. I am a gori who embraced Sikhi for the ideals it teaches in Gurbani about equality.

But to see people twist one liners from Gurbani to mean the opposite of what it's actually saying in order to justify women being inferior to men, just irks me to the core! Its disheartening for Singhnis!!!! Not to pick on you Paapiman but that one liner you posted can not be taken in the meaning you tried to apply to it. It has to be in context to the shabad. sorry... its not a poke at you personally, just this whole movement among the young Singhs that seem to want to pick on Singhnis for no other reason than to stir up trouble or feed their male egos. Trust me you aren't the only one on here and its not your fault that you were brought up or taught that way of thinking. That way of thinking though will not unify the panth. Eventually, it would end up with an all male membership with the girls all leaving to marry outside Sikhi and pursue other spiritual paths that do truly treat them as equals. It's inevitable unless attitudes change. Women taking subordinate roles may have been fine 500 years ago when they came from very bad position prior. But as time goes on, we as a human race need to realize what Gurbani was saying all along:

    Page 599, Line 2

As Gurmukh, look upon all with the single eye of equality; in each and every heart, the Divine Light is contained. ||2||

So a person's real identity is God but though we are all God, we are God asleep. And though we think we are awake we are really as in a dream. The awakening from this sleep or dream is the ultimate attainment described in all the World's religion and the realization of our true selves as God.
