My heart goes out to you. It will be difficult to get a good life, but you've already taken the first step by coming to this forum and sharing. That's a big starting step and I believe that you can do it and take it further and achieve a good life that you want.
In order to get that life, you gotta ask yourself, what is the ONE THING you can do right now that will improve your state?

Recognize that your life is ALL Chaos, NO Order. Everything is messed up and nothing seems to be in a good place.

So the idea is to try to establish some kind of order, some kind of rhythm. Try to get into some kind of a structured life and then go from there.

You want to start introducing activities that will provide a much needed structure to your life.

    1. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time. Maintain your circadian rhythms. (awake during light, asleep during dark)
    2. Get any job that you can get. Any job. because a job will give you a strong structure to build your life.
    3. Do you have friends? Start meeting people.
    4. Go to the Gurudwara and meditate.
    5. Get driving lessons and get used to driving, slowly but surely you will do it.
    etc

When you start doing these kind of things that give your life some order that you can build around. It is a like a foundation of a building.

Make it really easy. Pick just ONE THING you can do immediately, right now and start working on that... right now.

Bit of an update since I have had the dream of Guru Nanak Dev Ji days ago. The dream has left quite an imprint in my mind and various scenes from that dream constantly appear before my mind's eye when I'm doing simran now which can make it difficult to concentrate on the dhun of the gurmantar. On some occasions it leads to quite a bit of biraag which seems to bubble up and flow. Been consulting a few people about it there seems to be two opinions as to whether this was progress or a hindrance which kind of left me confused.
Some think it is a positive step and say it happened to offer guidance and blessing. It also shows that the mind is beginning to do abhiyas in dreams which means it is hitting the subconscious mind. Because there was an emotional and physical response following the dream it was no ordinary dream. There are a few pangtis in Guru Maharaj that mention this.
Another side say that even having dreams of Guru ji is still an illusion and the mind is trying to delude me in place known as harichandauri. Continue to work harder on abhiyas of Gurmantar with focused dhyan to further still the mind during the day. That in turn will help reduce the onset of dreams at night and help reduce the onset of such illusions.
Brief explanation given in the following passage.
Difficulties in the path of crossing Trehkuti:
The spiritual seeker trying to transcend Trehkuti also called Bikham Nadee (Turbulent River) will face a delusion in the form of Parkaash (luminous light). This is the light of five elements. The element of fire will be of red color, element of water of white, element of air of green, element of earth of yellow and the element of ether or sky will be of blue or black color. The maya is always on the move and Truth and Naam are immovable. Our physical body of five elements is a cloth given over Naam. The subtle five elements revolve around naam inside our body. At this stage, we see clips similar to those of movies. In this delusion a seeker can see subtle make-believe forms of gurus, prophets and other holy figures. In fact, these manifesting delusions are an effort by Kaal to hinder seekers entry into Nij-ghar (The Tenth Door). The Parkaash of the Five Elements creates this delusion. This is nothing but Maya’s deluding network. In Gurbani this illusory phenomena is called mirage (Gandarbh Nagri or Harchandauri). Mind caught in this web of illusion cannot realize its true self. Gurbani forbids entry into this web of delusion.
marig tisnaa paykh bhulnay vuthay nagar gandharab.
Seeing the mirage, the optical illusion, the people are confused and deluded.
    (SGGS 1425)
harichand-uree daykh moothaa koorh sayjaa raavi-aa.
Beholding an illusion, you are deceived, and on your bed, you enjoy a false lover.
marig tarisnaa ar supan manorath taa kee kachh na vadaa-ee.
Illusions and dream-objects possess nothing of greatness.
When we will move forward by merging in Naam, the air will end.At the same time the light of five elements will also end. Crossing Trikuti, when seekers consciousness gains entry into the Nij-Ghar also called Thir-Ghar (the Tenth Door)
Anyway just thought I'd share both perspectives should anyone else encounter such situations as it helps keep one grounded and focused on the journey ahead.
May Guru ji continue to show us the correct way forward...

Relevant pangtis on Ang 558 from Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

In a dream, He came, and went away again; I cried so many tears.
    supnai aa-i-aa bhee ga-i-aa mai jal bhari-aa ro-ay.

I can`t come to You, O my Beloved, and I can`t send anyone to You.
aa-ay na sakaa tujh kan pi-aaray bhayj na sakaa ko-ay.

Come to me, O blessed sleep - perhaps I will see my Husband Lord again.

I'm afraid two camps can't both be right because there is only One EK ONKAR.   Some scholars are wrong and it becomes apparent whether they have naam or not. There is no point fooling yourself if you are not willing to make effort to earn your own naam. What method you use, is open to choice, Waheguru isn't concerned about that. What does matter is ignorance, because it keeps you going around in circles instead of progressing.

Please note Paapiman, that bhai Rahdir's book(which you mention) was one that was very misleading for me. This confusion is mentioned in early pages of other meditation thread. The book self created and divided so called yoga shabads and gurmat shabads... which is baloney.... Then the book comes across as if he never heard the sounds mentioned, again totally misleading,.. which raises doubts. ..In all honesty, I doubt most of the stuff from that camp...because there are avasthas where raags will be heard at different pitches and sound notes....yet the camp rejects ragmala?
Papiman,f you really want to find the truth, Guru Nanak tells you that you won't find it by reading scholars or veds... you can only find it yourself by doing the practical. ... and I'm afraid that recording by gyani  is wrong and is not talking from  experience.,

    Good topic and good post.
I will just add a little because I feel that it may be a technique or jugtee that is given. I think it was the bellows mention in translations tat made me think of breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out....I'm not disagreeing with your post or anything, but I think we can dig a little deeper and see something that is practical and for us to use?
I think it may be saas saas gurmantar jap. We jap using bellows of body core(stomach navel and lungs), the gurmantar has to be done with dhyian and single one-pointed focus.  We merge with and into anhad naad. Get amrit rus and ching-ching-->a minted coin of naam begins to accumulate in our body-crucible.
...Have a look below and see what you think?
Patience of the goldsmith. ...This is essential because to get the final end product, the goldsmith has to sometimes work very patiently with small intricate details. In this case, he mentions the end product as a mint/taksal coin. Not an ordinary coin that would just be considered a coin shaped disc, but one with an official royal mint like seal to make it authentic.

Understanding/intelligence -->Anvil, ...this is to what the "object" is hammered and shaped...... The "mat" is Guru's mat or gurmat.
    Using guru's mat, we use guru's mantra.....gurmantar.
The hammer/hathiyar, used to shape the gold and make it authentic has to be specific in order to hammer the details. I think this is reference to "naad' because "gurmukh naadan, gurmukh vedan, gurmukh reha samayee" ....In simran, you have to listen and merge into the naad..... this leads to naam amrit.

The "bellows" are used to pump forced air into a furnace to get the molten gold. ....Action of bellows is by expanding and contracting manually. This is analogous to stomach and lungs using saas graas techniques of breathe in-out, in-out, wahe-guru,..wahe-guru.. As per our prana,  this area of the body is where heat is produced. ->the TAPAS is the heat energy generated by any yoga practice.  Too much is not good, but to get the end product we still need it providing we can cool down the object in question. .....The cooling energy is higher up from the stomach and comes from moon energies of bindu chakra....Amrit is also considered as cooling and in gurbani it mentions in places how amrit cools the agan or brahmagan(fire-heat).
NOTE- a lot of people get confused and think that they should avoid body heat production. They feel this because of problems with too much inner agani ....therefore, they avoid many practices, foods etc.... Sadly, they don't realise that we need both, but they have to be balanced. This is why yoga describes sun and moon energies distributed around the body. The sun/ right eye or pingula side is heat. The moon/left eye or ida side is cool energy. Guru ji mentions in gurbani that the sun and moon are both needed to nurse us, just as we have daylight and night.
The crucible is where the product is collected of poured into. In this case, the body. Remember that the body has been pumping the gurmanta like a bellow from the body core. This will have generated the tapas heat.. The next step was to get the gurmantar into  an authentic molten naam ras....and this happened using the ved from the naad. The next step would be to have the molten naam ras poured into the body crucible.

Only now, after the molten amrit rus is poured, is the shabad and the coin of naam produced. This coin has the official seal to make it mint and give it an official currency value.
Why would we need an official mint shabad/naam need value?
Because the Wealth of naam is the only thing that we can take with us. Nothing else is of any value. We can't use fakes, we can't buy naam on black-market. We need the official naam currency just like the royal mint coins and US presidential seals on currencies.

Sat, that is a blessing.    In my experience and understanding, when Guru Gobind Singh ji comes, he gives a message or helps in some way to clear the path for you, But when Guru Nanak dev ji comes, he is reassuring you the presence and closeness of Nirankar.
ps... as long as you know that you are not going to form a bond and get tied up in the image,, I don't think it is a problem. You can use it to help catch the flow of naam current.   You are aware that the goal is to get to the first stages of "emptiness" in Samadhi, and personaly, I don't feel that there are problems with guru ki murat, mann meh dhyan, as long as you know what you are doing.  The dream's deeper message will probably come and make more sense to you in a few days, you just need to do some deep silent meditations.

In my experience, a physical kriya practice does help with concentration in order to get surti and shabad connection(shabad-surti aspect)..  I find that physical discipline practicing helps with getting internal discipline practice for my "naughty wandering" mind!
The above kriya requires  a fair amount of concentration and practice, so it can help some of us more than others.... there are many kriyas and techniques for balancing pavan ida/pingla, but it's the practice and ease with how one's mind can listen and respond to you when trying to merge with shabad. ...I suggest that if you go throught phases of having difficulty focusing and settling into simran, then go try some example of physical pranayama or kriya and see if it helps.....what my mind responds to, ..may not work for others and vice versa.

Lucky reacted to Sat1176 in The Ringing Sound (Anhad Shabad; Sound Current)
Paaji, I wouldn't be so quick to state Anhad is low levels of spirituality. Agree there are very basic sounds heard in the ears or head which may not be classed as True Anhad by various individuals, but one must be careful to not make bold statements claiming Anhad is nothing but early stages either. In the past and present I have on quite a few occasions heard sounds in my ears coming from near and afar, sometimes constant, sometimes harmonic. Yet I feel they don't have a kind of pull or any kind of intoxicating effect on me so I will not class them as Anhad yet. To others they may be on a scale of 1-10, stages 1 to 3. But if you ever experience stage 5 for example it does certainly startle you the first time you hear it.
Anhad can occur in various forms and intensity at different stages right up to when at the abode of Waheguru. Take the few pangtis below on Ang 888. How can we call this stage for example where Anhad is heard early stage of spirituality? I believe this is not talking about some local sangat in a gurdwara. It is talking about very high avasta in the very deep inner realms where pure consciousness's are uniting close to the True Source..
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, echo the perfect sound current of the Naad. (The combination of the 5 shabads produce the Naad)
    panch sabad tah pooran naad.
The wondrous, amazing unstruck melody vibrates.
    anhad baajay achraj bismaad.
The Saintly people play there with the Lord.
    kayl karahi sant har log.
They remain totally detached, absorbed in the Supreme Lord God.
    paarbarahm pooran nirjog.
It is the realm of celestial peace and bliss.
    sookh sahj aanand bhavan.
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sits and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.  There is no disease or sorrow there, no birth or death. Pause
saadhsang bais gun gaavahi tah rog sog nahee janam maran.
There, they meditate only on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
    oohaa simrahi kayval naam.
How rare are those who find this place of rest.
    birlay paavahi oh bisraam.
The love of God is their food, and the Kirtan of the Lord`s Praise is their support.
    bhojan bhaa-o keertan aaDhaar.
They obtain a permanent seat in the infinite.
    nihchal aasan baysumaar.
No one falls there, or wavers, or goes anywhere.
dig na dolai kathoo na Dhaavai
By Guru`s Grace, some find this mansion.
gur parsaad ko ih mahal paavai.
They are not touched by doubt, fear, attachment or the traps of Maya.
bharam bhai moh na maa-i-aa jaal.
They enter the deepest state of Sunn Samaadhi, through the kind mercy of God.
    sunn samaadh parabhoo kirpaal.

I can't even comment on Sunn Samaadhi because I can't even get myself into basic Sunn beyond the 9 gates through abhiyaas. I can only hazard a guess to what it is like based on teachings I have heard. It's like when your in deep sleep beyond body consciousness and are awoken by only the intoxicating sounds of anhad music. Your consciousness is aware of nothing else but listening to this sound or voice of God because of its pure strength and intensity. I have only ever once in my few years on this path ever come close to experiencing anything like this and I could not withstand the intensity or knew at the time what it was. I wait for that call to come again, and I hope by his grace this time I can hold on a little longer without fear setting in and running in the opposite direction.
I am not in the little bit qualified in any spiritual way to talk of Bhramgyan avasta or posess any such knowledge to even comment on where that begins. We are already discussing concepts way beyond our own practical experience which is based other peoples journeys.
My advise dear brother is always look at where you are standing on the path in terms of experience. Looking too far ahead or at the final goal will definitely sound exciting but we as individuals are no where close to understanding such states. Yes it is encouraging and inspiring at times to look at those on a higher level to you but do spend time working on yourself also.

Lucky reacted to BhagatSingh in Bhagat Translates Pauri 38 of Jap ji Sahib - ਜਤੁ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ ॥
In Pauri 38 of Jap ji, Guru Nanak Dev ji describes the advanced meditation process using the analogy of a goldsmith. He describes the process as if it were being performed with a bunch of tools.

We might read it often, perhaps in the nitnem, but do we really understand what he is talking about?
Hopefully this thread will help you to understand this part of Guru Granth Sahib, and will help to put it on the map for your own inner journey.
    Let's get started -
    ਜਤੁ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ ॥
(ਜਤੁ) Ability to Withdraw the Five Senses from the world is the (ਪਾਹਾਰਾ) Workshop.
(ਧੀਰਜੁ) Patience is the (ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ) Goldsmith.

    ਅਹਰਣਿ ਮਤਿ ਵੇਦੁ ਹਥੀਆਰੁ ॥
(ਮਤਿ) Intellligence is the (ਅਹਰਣਿ) Anvil.
(ਵੇਦੁ) Vedas - listening to spiritual texts - is the (ਹਥੀਆਰੁ) Hammer.

    ਭਉ ਖਲਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ ॥
Blow through the (ਖਲਾ) Pipe (ਭਉ ) the Fear of God, and increase the heat of the (ਅਗਨਿ) Fire.
    This is called (ਤਪ) Tapasaya.

In the (ਭਾਂਡਾ) container of (ਭਾਉ) Love - your heart - (ਤਿਤੁ ਢਾਲਿ) pour in the molten gold - (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ) Amrit.

Amrit needs a bit of an elaboration here because there is no substitute word in English. Amrit means A - non, Mrityu - Death. It means non-death, non-dying. It is referring to the subjective, the qualitative state of eternity.

Imagine eternity not as a quantitative state, not as in - "How many years?" - that's quantity.
But rather as a qualitative state, as in - "How long is 1 minute?" - that's quality.

The word Boredom comes somewhat close. For example, when you are bored in class, the clock seems to be ticking a lot slower. So Amrit is like a sweet, joyful boredom. The clock ticks slower, as if it were eternity.

    ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ॥
(Take this Amrit and pour it into the mould of Love) and mint the Gold coins of your guru's words - his or her instructions.

Those who are looked upon kindly by their guru, they find out how to do this method. And when they apply the method, they are liberated.

It's just mind-blowing how he describes it using hammers and stuff!

When you withdraw your senses from world, now you have your inner space, this is your workshop.
If you are not patient, you will break/leave this space. So you have to be patient to maintain state in order to progress.

Your intelligence is what the spiritual texts must strike on. Your soul becomes the basis for the spiritual texts to have their effect on you. You need to constantly hit your intelligence with spiritual texts in order to make something out of it.

You need to have a Fear of God, because this will make your fire hot. The fire he is referring to is alertness/consciousness. The fear of God, as it increases, is like increasing alertness.

Why is there fear of God?

When you are becoming more and more conscious, the more conscious you become the more God comes in. When more God comes in to you, you will become frightened, because you will now start dying. Your haumai/ego will start dying the natural response of your ego to death is of fear.

So when you ego is dying it becomes fearful, and the more fear there is, the better the flame of consciousness.

But there can't just be fear because then you'd want to run away. There has to be love for this type of state, otherwise you will be out of there quickly. Your workshop will close down if you are afraid to go in so there must be love, there must attraction towards this process, and towards God so that you stay in and continue hammering away.
So in that love, pour in eternity, that is, maintain this state for long period of time, and use the guru's instructions to stay there and experience God, and let him in fully.

With all due respect I'm sorry but I will have to disagree with that recording that ajapa jaap of Gurmantar or mool mantar is anhad shabad. There are countless references in gurbani to the actual sounds. When you hear even only one of them , it will shock your being and only then does one believe in their existence.

Sorry maybe I should have been more clear. Beyond naam only waheguru himself exists. You as an individual have merged into him and their is no duality between you and him.

Lucky got a reaction from Bhoolea bhatkea in Meditation - What is the best time to meditate?
yeh man....Don't waste time-->  "Just Do It"
I've spent countless hours deciding when to fit in some time to sit and meditate. Everyday for the past couple of years, I usually wake up and plan the day mentally in terms of when I will later sit down and meditate. I even got into a habit of making the bed and arranging the pillows so that I could come back in the afternoon and sit straight down into simran....as you know, some thing always comes up and then I would go back into bedroom later and be disappointed,.. and like everyone else, I would then plan to better the next day..and so on...
Nowadays, I do attempt it many times throughout the day and especially if I'm on my own and not talking to someone.....walking...on the bus...in the gym...in fact I've probably had more fruitful and sweet amrit sessions whilst sat in the gym steam room!... doing a cardio workout is also a fantastic way to just close your eyes(or just fix your gaze) and do saas saas from the stomach up.
