It does'nt reject raagmala. The author just says he does'nt know wheter raagmala is Gurbani or not, which means it was also an issue at the time.

If you don't agree with him fine... but the least you can do is to address the man with some respect instead of "Randhiri". The only other person in my lifetime I've heard call Bhai Randhir Singh Jee like that was a Kala Afghana Chella. So why stoop down to the level of a Kala Afghana Chella?

The issue of raagmala predates Bhai Sahib Randir Singh.. The issue can be found in Suraj Parkash Granth and other nirmale scholars also rejected this composition such as pandit tara singh narotam etc... There is a list of scholars who've rejected this composition on www.sikhism101.com

Guest jee - Please list to what sampradas they belonged to. How many of the above are associated with sects, which trace their origins to tenth master?
If 100 people belonging to the same cult believe in a concept, then it only effectively counts as one vote.

Bhen ji i heard in Gyani Thakur Singh's katha that it can be done half half 50/50 of 32 jaaps or malas. I don't have the link right now but its ok as he said it in his katha that Baba Harnam Singh Ji Rampurkhera Wale said its as they did 16 in morning 16 in evening.

When I share something, I share as it is including my flaws, I think we all have to start from somewhere even if it is full of flaws...slowly Guru JI will sort it out.
@jaikara,  the first time I completed sehaj path it took me almost a year, i did it from laptop. then the next ones got easier & more doable in 6 month, and in 1 month. So i would say start it because time is running away fast ...who knows what will happen tomorrow...
@papiman , yea bro, hopefully Guru ji gets it done from me again....

With Gurus grace , das was able to finish 1,25,000 repetition within 40 days but with many mistakes.
Hence, my experience will differ from those who will do it with more pure minds or at different spiritual stages. I did have some personal aspirations as a reason for this jaap. Only Guru Ji & time will tell.
    regardless, Here was my experience:
    - i stuck to mental japa because of time constraints. I think it will be impossible to do loud japa for 16 hours straight.
    - most of the days were consistent 32 malas, however there were 4 days on which the number differed as following, 16, 6, etc
    - 38-39 days were in one spot, i think i did end up changing the spot
    - i did light jot for 38/40 days. lighting it everyday in itself was a challenge,,and so was making sure to keep water everyday
    - the first week was full of enthusiasm, but the rest of the time it was ok
    - first time i did it , it took around 5 hours, then slowly the mental speed got faster and i averaged between 3 to 3 hours 45 minutes / 32 malas depending on mental alertness. if i was sleepy it would take 4 hrs to finish
    - as for focus & concentration....that was only the first 20 minutes...but the rest of the time mind was distracted with many thoughts, mostly thoughts of lust & vishe vikar
    Things I learnt:
    - it is very difficult to take on 40 day challenge or chalisas with fixed timing, fixed spot , fixed ghee jot, water everyday. I think these are successful for mahapurush of pure mind, who have control over their minds. it is better to do a khula japa with less restrictions.
    - i cannot ever entertain the thought of doing a siddhi of a mantra...i would rather do a casual japa of moolmantra with loose timings.

    Post-Japa
    -  i dont think I am sensitive enough to notice any changes yet...the mental state is same,..hmmm... i think a ton of japa is needed, in my case, to hammer my mind, also along with japa mind needs to be trained 24/7 to live consciously and make conscious choices.

I have had this desire to do this japa for a long time, almost a decade. I am glad Guru Ji got it done from me...rest is upto him to take care of me ...

I've heard (from some other chardi kala gursikh) that the jot is lit to attract shaheed singhs who purify the atmosphere.

One other note on the 40 day maryada. You should maintain a certain level of consistency with it. Always do it in the same room. Do it the same way throughout as you did when you began it. you can do it sitting, lying down etc. but say this in your ardass when you start it. "Guru ji, I'm going to do simran sitting in a chair, and sometimes sitting on the ground as well."etc.
So basically, my understanding is that you're limited in your actions to what you did in the first day in terms of sitting standing etc. You can walk around as well (in your room).

    bhul chuk maaf.

I've spoken with Gyani Takhur Singh ji about this.

    Here's the maryada:

Make bhog and do ardass at the start.
While doing the jaap sit on a white sheet wearing white clothes. Have water in a container near you and have a quoi (ghee) jot lit. After doing your jaap for the day splash chitey from the water around your paath room (it's good somehow, not sure if it's a necessary part of maryada) and then drink the water.
At the end make bhog and do ardass.

Here's the numbers for each day:

    Gurmantr jap 108 mala
    Mool mantr 32 mala
Chachree chand, Tav Prasaad mantr 32 mala
    Sukhmani Sahib 5 paaths
    Japji Sahib 25 paaths.

This takes 40 days to complete. All of the above are equivalent.

lets not be getting the kachey into twists... We have to remember that the jap and gurmantar/mantar is just a technique to help get the "one-pointed awareness''
    ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥
    Ik cẖiṯ ik man ḏẖi▫ā▫e su▫āmī lā▫e parīṯ pi▫āro.
With my consciousness centered, and my mind one-pointed, I meditate on my Lord and Master, with love and affection
    All about Ik chi-Ik mann
The one-pointed mind is the goal for any method that we use because this is what can take you to the states of sunn Samadhi.
The mind reaches samadhi when it attains a stage of one-pointed concentration, or absorption. Since mind and body are of one unity, if the mind reaches samadhi, the body will also attain sunn samadhi,.
With using gurmantar, moolmantar, or any other mantar like har har, ram......the mind should be internally listening to the mantra without adding any extra commentary to the sounds; the only sound experienced within jap, should be the sound of the mantar itself rather than any internal talking. There should be no second dialogue, and we should not impose any internal thought words of comprehension. In fact, ..in any jap, there should not be any internal dialogue--the mental realm within should remain quiet.
One-pointed concentration is what helps you get from the stage of just listening into the emptiness and bliss of the void.--->that's the only way the duar/door to Waheguru's sacha mahal will open.
Gurbani tells us about sowing the seeds and cultivating...and this is very important, because I think even his grace will only follow when one starts to cultivate.

Therefore, it doesn't matter what method of cultivation you use or what mantra, or if you use rosary, ring bells, play music, sing praises.......it's all about getting to that one-pointedness-->empty void->Samadhi.
However, Gurmat tells us to not get wound up in the cultivation techniques of whether to use rosary, to count your chants, mantars....but to focus on 'dhyiana' aspects of yoga schools,,, which is why it overlaps with bhakti yoga using mantar and breathing pranayama together.
Gurbani also tells us that our commodity is the Swaas....So it is the breath and one-pointed mind together that earns the wealth of naam.......With this in mind, I personally find it easier to merge breathing with gurmantar easier. But you can also do it with mool mantar providing you keep a joint pace with breath and mind jap.... speed up breathing->speed up moolmantar jap...OR slow down breath-->slow down moolmantar...........The idea is to keep the same number of breaths with cycles of moolmantar.
ps..I just tried moolmantar jap this morning and it went quite well once I had set my own breaths/mantar cycle rate! ;)

Do you really think it is a good idea to try and use religion like some sort of magic spell to fulfill this selfish wish?
The guy is married now. You're much better off accepting that and moving on. You sound infatuated by this guy and from what I've seen that is VERY common with girls who have sex with a guy at a young age.
As much as you might not want to hear it (here comes more tough love), you need to move the hell on with your life - he's gone. If you're not careful (and this guy is unscrupulous), you might end up being a dumb mistress to a married man, because you're so desperate.
Time heals all wounds and when you move on, eventually you'll get over your infatuation and see things for what they really are.
I personally think trying to use paat and amrit in the way you're suggesting above is only going to make things even worse for you. Was this guy amritdhari when you had a relationship with him?

If only 50 pages of the Dasam Granth are to be considered the writings of Guru Gobind Singh then why werent these 50 pages included into the Guru Granth Sahib when the Guru dictated the Granth Sahib from memory in 1704? Obvisoly the Guru would not be able to add the 1300 page Dasam Granth into the existing 1400+ page Guru Granth Sahib, but a few extra 50 pages of bani would'n be a problem .Why were these kept seperate?

And is there a difference between Japji Sahib and Jap Sahib? Are'nt both to  be respected the same way?

On a superficial level, they would mean the same as ordinary people would think about them.
    On a deeper level,
Wealth - refers to Naam Dhan
Prosperity - refers to Sarbat da Bhalla
Peace - Peace of mind (minimal to zero effect of Vikars on the mind)
Gurmukhs can write a book to elaborate the above points.

Like lots of bells/tambourine/shainey sounds....occurring at quite a fair and constant frequency?
I now realise that these different sounds occur as your prana channels start opening up and you chakras start gathering and directing the energies. These sounds are sometimes referred to as pavan shabads.
Best method is to just hear them, acknowledge them,..but not to focus or get lost in them. Keep dhyian and one-pointed concentration on the jap. I remember that I avoided myself getting too lost or distracted by listening out for what came next.
Basically, you do jap.... .some pavan sound comes along,...... you acknowledge ...and confirm to yourself that ascension is occurring....., tell yourself  to not get wrapped up in it...., continue jap whilst they are in background and... wait for the next lot.   (I'm not going to say what may come next or how long it may be, because that pre-conditioned attitude may affect your progress)..
    Good- luck ...happy japing!

Arsh1469 reacted to CdnSikhGirl in Okay I am a bit freaked out...
I have heard "sounds" during meditation / simran before... and I say sounds but I know they were not physical. But those were more like static, electricity like, and stopped as soon as I lost concentration on it.
I was doing about 1 hr simran/meditation this evening, completely alone... and something happened that actually scared me.  I heard sounds, but it was different this time.  It started as like faint bells, I actually thought something was off in the distance outside or something.  But it got louder. And it was high pitched and sounded like thousands of bells being rung at the same time over and over. Like brass bells like the ones used for christmas carols (for those in the west you know those big hand held bells in different notes and tones) well it was like those but thousands all at once. I stopped repeating "waheguru" physically because the sounds got to be too much and I continued in my mind, but the bells did not go away. I even got up and walked around and stopped simran, but I could still hear it!!!  It lasted another few minutes and went away after I turned the TV on to have some other sounds.  I can't hear it anymore now (about 15 mins later). But it scared me.  I thought I was experiencing tinnitus or something that something is wrong with my ears maybe.
There was no sound in the room or nearby it was completely quiet. I had the lights off. I didn't hear the sound until about 45 mins into quiet simran alone. At that point I had relaxed enough to really not even feel my physical body and since it was dark I was kind of giving myself sensory deprivation a bit.  The sound was no joke - like thousands of bells all at once. When it got louder it even kind of 'hurt' my ears (even though I know the sound was not even physically there). And it did not stop when I turned the light on and got up and even walked around for a few mins!  So this is freaking me out a little bit.
Has anyone else experienced this during Simran??
