This is just one of the tantrum kinda questions ..how many lady saints have been seen in Islam and Christianity ? why is the Pope always a man ? Why is the Imam always a man ?

ragnarok is correct. Their gender did not matter. Souls are neither female or male in the physical sense. However all of us are seen as 'soul brides'. It was likely coincidence that they were all male, however there was a positive benefit for women, with them being male.

Think about it:

Who would have more impact? A slave claiming that they should be free and treated as equals, or their master claiming this? The message of women being equal, needed to come from men in order to have the impact. Women could have demanded to be seen as equal all they wanted but would never have been taken seriously. So the message had to come from men. It had to be men that admitted openly that women were their equals in order for it to mean anything.

There is no gender for the Guru. Guru is neither man or woman, people who see only the body of the Guru do not see the Guru.

It depend whether you are asking for spiritual or political defination of sikh.. If we go by defination that only a person following Guru is sikh then how many corrupt politicians of Punjab and Akali Dal and how many corrupt Gurdwara officials will qualify as Sikhs?

I think that just as gorey do wedding rehearsals before hand..... we should do something very similar which is NOT a rehearsal but which is an education process for the couple to explain the significance of anand karaj.
The gurdwara comittee or gyani jees should take care of this.
Both bride and groom have to understand what the guru is and what the REAL marriage of MIND with SHABAD GURU is actually ALL about.


Problem is that in other faiths, a couple get married in some religious setting where they assume or accept that God is the witness.
It's kind of like where 2 souls or 2 jots become ONE in the presence of God.....so to speak.

However, in Sikhi, it is completely different and unique....in the sense that 2 jots don't merge with each other directly but they merge with Satguru.
The marriage is about 2 people merging their MIND together with the Shabad.... the 2 jots don't become one with each other, but the 2 jots are supposed to be merging into One with the shabad of Guru.
This needs to implemented and addressed with some good education tools.


What's done is done, we can't reverse that. But we can make sure that education is given practically before hand to make sure this never occurs again.... anywhere !

I just spoke to nirmale/taksali who studied gurmat vidya for 20 plus years. He advised 52 hakums are authentic work of sri guru gobind singh ji. However, 52 hakums contents that you read now its been exaggerated-strictfied, for lack better term -sharia fied, colored with abhramic notions as proper context were not shown. Upon question if bachans need to be read or followed like christian 10 commandments- Bhai sahib answer was no cannot be interperted or taken as christian commandments. These bachans or hakums were answer to questions of sikhs, some can be treated as basic guidelines not meant to be wrapped their head around it but meant to be read as basic beginner guidelines which were further divided into two categories- jatti- personal and kaumi- bachans are meant for sikh kaum.
 
The reason he believes 52 hakums of sri guru gobind singh ji 'written' now are bit exaggerated is because writer didn't know- actual context of the bachans as they were spoken out by sri guru gobind singh ji, some bachans were answer to sikh only meant for questioner state of mind/spiritual development.
 
He also mentioned- main essence of sikhi is Sri guru gobind singh ji bachan and sikhi- Jin Prem kiyo tin hi prabh paio ||
 
He provided two examples - different aspect/perspective of advises given in one from japji sahib and second one from sodar rehras sahib to prove emphasis on the context, see things in different aspects/perspectives (pakh).
 
My personal opinion is pretty much with bhai sahib ji is saying- i believe 52 hakums are authentic as well....i would see them from transcendental perspective mentioned in gurbani couplet below:
 
 
 

I don't think you did understand correctly: I wasn't specifically talking about Ganda Singh's work, just making general point. But (on a related note) even Ganda Singh had the humility and sense to say:

ਪਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਭੁੱਲਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਪਾਠਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਕਾਈ ਦਿਸੇ, ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜਣ ਦੀ ਖੇਚਲ ਕਰਨ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਧਅਤੇ ਟੋਹ ਦੀ ਲੋ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

But here you got people who would throw a document/manuscript in your boothi and demand you adhere to it and start childishly casting aspersions on your loyalty should you apply some prudence or caution. That might be how things go down in rural pendu Panjab but me, I'm from the big bad city and I don't need to be told everything second hand because I'm not scared, averse or incapable of looking at source material myself.

I think problem is not with 52 hakums itself but rather lack of contexualization of them. In many areas gurbanis has forewarned us to rise above from conditioning attached with different levels in dharam, idiolized form of pointers/principles transcedent them with bibek buddhi. To embodied full sikh life as per gurmat/taught by our Guru sahib should be devotion plus bibek buddhi, abide in shabad along with shabad gyan, not just wrap your head around 52 principles (idiolized form) be in stuck in subtle/evidents form of ego/self righteouness mixed with egoic mindset/pride. In this way, we don't outright reject 52 hakums but rather see its as aid in beginning stage to make your foundation strong Cycle should be other way around to see full picture, see things from transcedental perspective- absolute perspective(Ikongkar) this will help siginficantly to see things in context- Understand Bhai Gurdas ji varan --> Abide in teaching of gurbani-sri guru granth sahib/sri dasam granth from there with bibek buddhi one gets understanding contexualization of different levels in dharam- shariat, tariqat, marfat, hakikat or dharam khand, gyan khand, saram khand, karam khand, sach khand. Unfortunately, its the other way around these days: Rehit maryada/52 hakums/rehitnamas without incorporation of contextualization, gurbani, absolute gurmat non duality view-advait and being stuck at the first stage as falling into same notions many abhramic faith- islam and muslim followers do.

I think that most of us sikhs in the west have learned our lessons by seeing where and how things went wrong with many sikhs amongst us...and especially in the last 25 yrs.
If you want to be a clueless and locked out sikh, then go live in some isolated ashram or create your own prison where you can go forth and multiply.

I don't know too much about social upbringing in india... but the ones who raise their kids with the ''you can't do this'' and ''you must only do this'' attitude, are the ones that come to regret in later years.
I can't force sikhi on my kids or insist that they must do x amount hours of simran.....but I try and teach them how to do simran and assure them that there will come a time later in life when they won't regret knowing what I taught them.
It's my duty to teach them the ''How'' but not to be enforcing it on them.
I feel more than assured that they know where to turn to when they may face obstacles or hurdles in their life.

If you are able to go to public recreation swimming pool or hot tubs lets say.... and there are plenty of bikini wearing goriyan and remembering that for them it is the normal and appropriate wear for that environment...... then can you go about and use the facilities without even one single look or kaam thought coming in your mind ?

If you can't then you aren't strong enough.... you need to practice.... avoiding the hot tub or pool is not the answer is it ?

Guru is more concerned about sikh intentions than just going to external places. Remember story from soraj parkash of sikhs going to mela: This is ithasik sakhi- In Sri guru gobind singh ji darbar there were two group of sikhs wanted to go to mela but one can go..one had to do seva of guru maharaj ..sri guru gobind singh ji sent one group of people to test and others were not too happy. So after themela group came back..both groups were called in guru maharaj darbar..the group that went to mela were addressed- o sikhs you guys are great, during your time spent in mela your mind was attached to my lotus feet, you were thinking about me , you guys were bairaagi you guys were gurmukh maya vich udasi now guru maharaj addressed to the group which was in hazaar nazaar in sri guru gobind singh ji hazoori doing seva, guru maharaj said even though you were physically present in guru maharaj darbar try to do seva physically, your mind was wandering in mela, have all sort of thoughts things in mela...in this way guru maharaj gave updesh to both groups.
