If you are talking about simran... probably an hour or so continuous (at a samagam).  If you are talking paath... then see my other post in this forum.  2 hours continuous, and totalling 12 hours in a 24 hour period cumulative of japji sahib (2 hrs on 2 hrs off).  And that was not easy... I doubt I will be making another attempt any time soon.

yes, stretch...remain supple...and relaxed..that's the best thing for people our age....on a deeper level, the more suple and relaxed the body, the better our life force energy can circulate the body...

have you ever had a stressfull day...then rubbed the back of your neck...that amazing tingling sensation that rushes to your head and alleviates the stress of a stiffened neck...that's your energy flow...

work with your own body weight. i have tried every trick in the book in my life to lose weight...build muscle...
for losing weight don;t believe all these one trick methods...you will only lose weight if you burn more calories than you put into your mouth :)
eat small regular servings of meals...mixed and varied food...do NOT starve yourself...thats is the worst thing to do...your body needs to know that it will be getting food.
then burn 300-400 calories a day if you can with exercise...that is about 40 minutes of exercise...a fast walk...walking up and down stairs...a jog...and what i have found is...for example if you are jogging...do not do same speed and intensity for the whole time...vary it...so maybe 5 minutes easy level..then 1 minute faster level...then back to easy level...then back up a bit...then maybe a sprint for 100 meters....this helps a lot with your overall fitness and sharpness..
i am trying to lose weight as we speak...i have spent two weeks burning 300-400 calories atleast 5 days of the week...and i have lost 3-4KG already...
so burn those calories and eat regularly but smaller servings and healthier servings and you have a winning formula..

look at videos on youtube...for doing stretches..then do the stretches one day...take one day of, then do again...on my wedding day i had the worst pain sat down for a couple of hours during the Gurdwara ceremony :) ..since i started doing stretches, i can now sit cross legged without any back pain or leg pain..

hope this help my good friend

i will send you some links lucky ji...
i really recommend tai chi and chi-kung my friend...it goes well with your Simran and meditation practice that your also do.
if you do tai chi and chi-kung regularly, you will start to feel the energy flowing around your feet...palms of hands...top of head etc in your movements...its pretty cool.
if your meridians are already pretty open then your chi will flow quite easily to wherever you put your mind and attention..for example...i am right this second focussing on my right hand...within seconds it is tingling...like ants crawling over it....thats the chi :)
so when you are visualizing something like...lifting a dumbbell, then the chi is circulating in that area...and then when you do the actual exercise it should feel a little easier than the last time you did it...small changes but over the course of a year big changes...and you will not have to go through what bodybuilders go through...the bruised, tense, torn muscle pain for several days.
just do a few sets throughout the day, stopping 1 rep before muscle failure (its the muscle failure that gives your sore arms the next day)...and when you do the sets...really focus with your mind on what you're doing or intending to do...visualise also whilst you're doing it...where the weight needs to go...the path it needs to follow..etc etc...it really works...well it did for me...stronger than i have ever been
i used to think back in the days following an intense workout...i couldnt even move my arms...they were that sore the following day. i thought what would happen if someone attacked me right now...i wouldn;t even be able to defend myself due to the soreness...so whats the point :)

need to be sharp, focussed and have all your strength ready when it is required.

    God bless..

to link my replies back to your question of shabad and strength...
i often repeat 'waheguru' or 'satnaam' in mind when i exercise...lifting weights or running or anything...visualize what your goals are..do ardaas asking for his support and keep Him on mind whilst doing it...if you believe it, it will happen and God will help.

    God Bless

Tirah Sikhs glad at getting status of tribal elders

PESHAWAR: Gurmeet Singh ran a grocery store until he along with hundred other members of Sikh community had to leave his native Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency to escape the wrath of slaughtering militants.
The 32-year-old prides himself as a Kukikhel Afridi tribesman but unlike his fellows, he and others of his community had been pushed from pillar to post to get attestation and verification of documents to secure national identity cards.
From 400 to 500 families of around 2,500 Sikhs had to shift lock, stock and barrel to Peshawar due to insecurity, particularly, nearly when a dozen of their community members were kidnapped and killed, some of them beheaded by militants then controlling Tirah.

No dalsingh, I have to disagree with you, rural Punjab is home. However its home to these greedy jatts who look down on others. Remember where jatts are in the caste system shudra.
The nihangs should go and jhatka these Christian missionaries.

Ilford in East London has a church that caters to the Punjabi audience. People leaving Sikhi in the diaspora is rising - whether for deras, sects or other religions.

At the same time however I also see more and more people converting to Sikhi.

In the meanwhile, we'll just have to get used to the idea of Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Christian Panjabis.

    Hi Guys

I apologized to everyone after breakfast this morning during a family meeting and I was told my apology was accepted in which I was glad to hear. I was about to leave the living room when I was summoned back only to be told that the entire family has decided that I am to become a Sikh because since I am now legally their son, they have a moral, religious and legal responsibility to make me a Sikh. After they said this they had my 13 adoptive brother (the one whom I tore his patka off during an argument) to tie a patka on my head. Since my hair is past my shoulders (I wear my hair in a ponytail) due to not cutting it for 2 years because of their household rule of no haircutting for anyone living under their roof, the little bun of hair that shapes the ball of the patka is of good size. They showed me a mirror after the patka was tied around my head and I was amazed on my new look, I really liked wearing a patka. My adoptive father then laughed and said “since you are going to be part of this family, you must become a Sikh and to do that you must look like a Sikh”. I told them I am grateful for becoming part of their family and I will embrace Sikhism with all my heart. My adoptive mother told me that they will only let me become baptised and wear a full turban until my beard starts growing until then I will have to wear a patka only.

The way i look at the Charitars and have said that before on the forum too i believe ...the Khalsa was no traditional army...there were potters washermen brewers and people from all walks of life ..they were not experienced with the art of warfare and had no idea how they would be fooled to be killed.
the Mughals are known to use deceit ..if i remember long back i had heard about vishkanya ..vish is poison and kanya is girl..it is said that there use to be units of such women who were used against the enemy..anyone having intercourse with her would die ..i dont know if it was instant or after a certain duration of hours or days .
So what i feel is Maharaj has provided knowledge in the Bani of Charitaropakhyan in order to alert men..as to how dangerously an innocent looking woman ..the weaker gender that they were considered could do .
Satkirin please understand it is not to demean women..you might want to argue that why was not anything composed to alert women..but we need to go to the facts that almost everyone of the Khalsa unit was a man ..exceptions like Mai Bhago were there but you could count them on your fingers.
This is my personal opinion ..and may not be bereft of mistakes ..so bhula chuka muaaf karni ..

But ask this question to yourselves had you tolerated this if she was a convert from a Hindu Family ? Until now one of you must have hurled abuses ..baahmanvaadi ..rss agent ..etc.
The efforts what the Panth altogether puts to keep a white neo sikh happy had you put for prachaar in the society today the Khalsa would have been more than 20% of the population.
    Think over it ...

The point is that she is not keeping her beard because she is amritdhari or is following a certain maryada, rather she is doing it out of her own personal reasons.Obviously, everyone has freedom to look however they want. There is nothing wrong if she is feeling empowered by keeping a beard. But it is not due to a religious requirement, she just chose to keep it, that is all.
Basically, the idea was to refute your claims 1) that she is amritdhari 2) she was getting married... because you never seem to back down & keep on debating endlessly...lol

jaikaara reacted to CdnSikhGirl in How To Speed Up Recitation Of Japji Sahib
We tried it.... and failed. At least for me, having to read it because I cant recite from memory, it means going slower.  And while I do not speak Punjabi, I am unable to memorize it since memorization would require literally memorizing the actual sounds and not the words.  For example, I could memorize a song in English very easily.  But in Russian I could not, because its the sounds I am memorizing and not the words, which you can remember much easier when you have the full sentences and meanings.
Anyway, we took turns. 2 hours off / on, and at the 24 hour mark we were at approximately 75.  We didn't go further... by that time my eyes were buggy and I had a headache due to eye strain from reading.
:(  If it were possible to get 108 in a 24 hour period, I'd say that it would have had to be constant. He would have had to be doing all the normal things of life, and doing that in the back of his mind at the same time.  I don't see how it would have been possible to only recite and get 108 each day and still be able to live and do all the normal things like eating, washroom etc. and not to mention adequate rest / sleep.  And the speed would have had to have been significantly faster than we did. And we were averaging 3 per hour.
    Experiment was abysmal failure.

In my view,What I think as considering myself a person of very lowest awastha,is that number doesnt matter.Just talking about Jap Ji sahib Ji.You know what is the depth and meaning in Japji sahib???
Doing more and more paaths in lowest time,is not that worthy for an ordinary man.Gurmukhs could and they did so,coz they had understood the real meaning of japji sahib. They had divine glimpse of each word of Japji sahib in their inner -selves.They have achieved the true meaning, true essence.Talking personally,I used to do this in my childhood to do nitnem in 1 hour.It was due to lack of time ,to go to school. But what we have understood in fast recitation of gurbani??
Have we understood or felt the true meaning, true message yet.You know Jap ji sahib gurbani is just of 39 pauris ,and you can do it in as lowest time as you want to.but The depth, vastness, the reality, incredibility of these 39,pauris is just measureless. If we do a single pauri again gain again in a single day ,then we can't understand the meaning.
Why gurmukhs could do or do so??,cause they had achieved the truth
They had done paath in their souls.Means they did true darshan of paathh in higher realms. They had seen each word and each line of jap ji sahib in their souls. They know the divine saroop of jap ji sahib. That's why time limit doesnt matter for them.Like it's said, one who reaches sachkhand, then he can go there anytime and can come back any time. Now the realms at intervals do not matter for them .It's like making of bridge over lower realms to do straight journey any time.same in this case. They have achieved the true essence. Now they dont need to discuss the meanings again and again in their minds. It's some thing unspoken.but we ordinary men can do so,but not in that sense. To get the true meaning and to do the pathh by soul is the true purpose.Like
    Take e.g. of tuk
Na oh maareh naa thaage jaye
Jin kai raam vasey mann maye
These are the simple lines. But the vastness cant be described.
Okay I've read the line in just 3 seconds. But that doesnt matter. If I want to UNDERSTAND, FEEL, EXPERIENCE, in just that 3 seconds then, its not worthy.
When I'll achieve it,Then experiencing the meaning, a WAH will come out ,not just a wah that will be word of unspoken pleasure of soul.
SO ,if we do a single pauri in whole day,in order to read the experience, the depth and start talking to divine while doing so,then its much worthy than reciting so many times the whole pathh without no real experiences.
Gurmukhs did so,cause they had made a bridge. But we have not yet.so,what I'm doing these days(may be wrong),I get katha of bhai Maskeen ji of japji sahib in my lapi.katha of each pauri is app 40 min. So doing a each pauri each day, then talking to divine again again over these particular words is just a poor attempt but still not that worthy ..
So In my suggestion, just close your eyes and start doing Jap ji sahib with waheguru Ji.Start reciting each word ,each letter with an aim of getting its true meaning ,talk to guru ji.Like your doing a conversation between ur soul and almighty. Forget about time limits.Forget about everything else! Forget about urself.Just your soul and waheguru ji in terms of words.Words of jap ji sahib. Then see whether you do 108 paaths in one day or just a One Paath in 108 days.
If you have achieved the truth ,then go for you attempt.
But the anand ,pleasure and real experience we get in discussing the paathh with supreme is much much fruitful than doing infinite prayers.
    Sanak Sanat ant nhi paya
Bed parraeh parr brahmey janam gwaya
(Sanak and Sanat ,sons of brahma coulnt find the lords limits
Brahma wasted his life away continually reading the vedas)

Satkirin can we talk about real world ? Would you knowingly marry a man who cross dresses ? Who puts on make up like a female and waxes his body?
Someone gets attracted when he/she finds the personality interesting . The manly look harnaam carries would obviously attract homosexuals ...99.99% of men wouldnt be attracted to her . By saying it is uncalled for you yourself mean that you do not see homosexuals as equal.
